Again several pens over 200p to a top of 213p for a pen sold by Messrs E & C Merchant of Pancrasweek followed by 207p realised by 3 vendors. More lambs over 90 than under to a top of 93.50 for a pen of heavies from Mr AF Anthony of Petrockstow who also realised 93 for for another pen. 275 DRAFT EWES A slightly easier trade across the board with an overall average of 56.01. Top of the day was 93 for Mr & Mrs WG Pearce of Monkokehampton. 248 STORE HOGGS The store hoggs are getting dearer by the week and a lot more could have been sold as several buyers went home empty handed. 247 BABY CALVES & STIRKS Auctioneer: James Morrish FLAA 07814 010133 Another excellent entry of 247 calves compared to an entry of 216 in 2017, saw the 1 st quality calves selling to an even dearer trade than last week however the 2 nd quality would have been a little harder to place. Top call of the day was the best of a run of 7 week old Blue bulls from John Elliot of Bradford hitting 465, 460, 455 & 440 with the best of a run from Messrs Allin of Goldsworthy at 458. Baby Blues (3-5 week) topped at 348 for Kevin Parsons of Cornwall closely followed by a superb run of 4 week old Blues from Messrs Goaman & Son at 340 and 335 with Messrs Jose at 335 and an unbelievable 9 vendors up and over the 320 bracket. Limousins topped at 460 for John Elliott whilst the baby Limousins topped at 238 for the best of a tidy run from Geoff Bond of Langtree. Lots of Angus bulls forward saw a top call of 420 for Brittons Farms with David & Tracey Grigg close up at 300 and Messrs Tapp & Son of Chevithorne, Tiverton at 270. Black & White bulls saw plenty of interest with the best at 165(x6) for Messrs Allin of Bideford, David Grigg at 128 and Messrs Jose at 117 with the top 15 Holstein bulls averaging 122.30. Heifers saw plenty of interest with Ashwater Farms of Winkleigh with the best Limousin heifers to 385, 320, 315 & 310 for John Elliott. Best baby Angus heifers topped at 192 with plenty flying past the 170 bracket. Smaller cattle than the previous weeks with several 16-18mth Continentals on offer to a top of 975 for 3 Dairy X British Blues 17mth from Messrs GR & AE Pomeroy of Bradworthy with British Blue heifers the same age to 870. A smaller entry of forward cattle saw most over 1,100 to a top call of 1,210 for 2 24mth Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs Thorne of Umberleigh with other Aberdeen Angus to 1,100 from Messrs Timms of Okehampton. Continentals topped at 1,190 for 2 24mth British Blues from Mr RJ Prouse of Torrington with other British Blues from Mr G Daniel of Down to 1,125. Single Suckled Aberdeen Angus from G Worth of Lopthorne reached 1,070 with other young Aberdeen Angus to 870. Heifers topped at 1,080 for a Charolais heifer from Mr A May of Week St Mary who sold other Charolais to 1,000 and Aberdeen Angus to 1,070 for 2 from Mr G Worth. Forward British Blues topped at 1,000 for 3 from Messrs Daniel of North Tamerton with others from Messrs Prouse also 1,000. Young Continental & Natives saw a very strong trade, a superb 14mth British Blue heifer from Miss Kim Davey of Lewdown topped at 1,005, Dairy X Continentals from Canal Farm Partnership saw steers 10mth to 640 and 10mth heifers from the same farm also 640. Hereford steers 10-12mth to 670, Hereford heifers again from Canal Farm Partnership at 10mths to 535. A good Holstein trade this week with 20mth steers topping at 800 for 5 from Messrs Shere of Bradworthy. More cattle required as numbers through January are fairly tight through most livestock centres and buyers are keen to replenish numbers. This week s winner of the Lark Plant was awarded to Messrs Thorne of Umberleigh for 2 24mth Aberdeen Angus steers at 1,210.
