We were founded in the early 1990 s by a small unit of very dedicated GSP people. Throughout the years, we have grown to expand our horizons as we continue to promote the health and welfare of the Versatile GSP. The Sleepy Hollow GSPC, is an American Kennel Club Sanctioned Specialty Breed Club. SHGSPC is also a member club of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America. We promote the responsible breeding of the purebred GSP. We urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed approved by the American Kennel Club, as the only standard of excellence. The SHGSP Club conducts Sanctioned Specialty Breed Shows, Obedience Trials, and Field Events held under the Rules and Regulations of the American Kennel Club. Our Club is about Good Sportsmanship - Our members, their enjoyment of the sport and willingness of their dogs. Education - Learning through the exchange of knowledge within the membership. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT- JOHN RATCLIFF Am I being just the typical optimist, or is it actually beginning to look like spring weather? Of course, we ve had a few teaser days that stretched up to the 70 s, but I m also sure that we still have one more snowfall before Easter. For those of you who attended, the GSA Show in February was a great success. We had a reasonably large number of entries and due to the excellent organizational skills of Diane and Sue Prohaska, as well as Diane Stendahl, the event ran seamlessly. The Best of Breed winner this year, and recipient of the club s Jim Burns Memorial Award, was GCH. Shortales N Cahoots W Irondale, JH, owned by Leita Estes and T. Stinchcombe. On Saturday May 14 th, our good friend Mike Holomakoff, owner of East Mountain Shooting Preserve, Dover Plains, NY and his associate Tom Laprise, will be conducting a free all day seminar on proven methods for training pointing dog puppies. This program is limited to the first thirty people calling to attend (203) 984-5983, and will begin promptly at 8AM and end at 4:30PM. Mike will discuss three key topics including: maximizing a dog s prey drive for confidence in the field; training a puppy to hold point and be steady to flush; and establishing a leadership role so that the dog hunts for you. Mike has trained countless pointing dogs and is very thorough in his presentations and skilled in his training abilities. Our June Specialty Show in New Paltz is rapidly approaching. As Chairwoman of the event, Dolores Mallory has everything well in hand. If you have not attended this event in the past, try and make an effort to do so. It is an all-day event coupled with a pot-luck lunch where everyone contributes a dish. As an amateur weather forecaster, I predict mild and sunny weather; this is based on past statistics (it hasn t rained on that day in the past six years I have attended). Although 2011 New Year s resolutions have already been made (and broken), it s never too late to make a new one. Here s one you might consider I will try and attend monthly meetings and get more involved with club activities. Here s hoping for balmy, fair weather soon. He survived, and hopefully will live a long and happy life now. Club member Tom McKenna recently suffered an injury to his arm, with torn muscles, more. Cynthia advises he is on the road to recovery at this time and we wish him well and a quick recovery. Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary to Al and Sue Prohaska. May they enjoy continued good health, love and success as they did for the 1st 50 years. Their family, from near and far, and some friends as well, surprised them at the home of their daughter, Diane Prohaska, who also does so much for the cub, as does Sue.
