"A TERRIER TRIUMPH" THE FIRST ANNUAL GREAT WESTERN TERRIER SPECIAL TIES and the KENNEL CLUB of BEVERLY HILLS "The Montgomery County of the West!"... perhaps the greatest compliment which could be paid, was heard by several exhibitors and judges, after viewing the marvelous atmosphere, the superior quality of the exhibits and the smooth-running efforts of the show committee, all of which added up to the fantastically successful FIRST effort of the GREAT WESTERN TERRIER SPECIALTIES. The 23rd of June will long be remembered by Terrierites as the date for one of dogdom's most successful shows. Held in Elysian Park in Los Angeles, which provided a lovely setting, the nine specialties drew a total of 449 terriers from all parts of the country. The show has the distinction of being one of the few shows in the history of the AKC that had to relocate within one week of the show date. Originally, the show was to have been held in Century Plaza in Century City, but due to the arrival of President Johnson, this section and others were closed off to traffic, and the Los Angeles Police Force provided 1,000 men in case of any violent demonstrations by the 10,000 that planned to march to the Plaza that evening. The going was tough for the show committee, but "the tough got going", and a new place 4 PETER GREEN PROFESSIONAL ALL BREED HANDLER "Specializing in Terriers" BOX 186 Bowmansville, Penna. 17507 was discovered for holding the show. To the ancient Greeks the Elysian Fields were heaven, and to the GWTS, the Elysian Park was much the same. It was the consensus of exhibitors and spectators that it was one of the smoothest-running, wellorganized shows that they had attended in years. Fortunately, for all the work that was done the show has established itself as a permanent fixture... the tenth club already having been signed for 1968, and a waiting list provided for other clubs, should one of the original nine decide not to go with the GWTS in 1968. The Catalog for this event will become a "collector's item"... the beautiful three-color Cover featured the Club's logo, a magnificently designed grouping (see above) executed by Dale Goudie. Inside were pages of advertisements, from which the clubs grossed some $2500.00, a credit to advettising chairman, Alan Cazier. Another unusual feature was the presentation of beautifully designed 14 Karat gold medalions with diamonds for each Best of Breed winner. These valuable momentos were the result of contributions by a select few (minimum subscription to this fund was $50.00), and gave the a ward a special "class" seldom avail- IDEAL KENNEL PROPERTY 5 Acre site in NAPA COUNTY, 4 year old, 2 bedroom home, with air conditioning; lovely view, trees on property; can use for Kennel. $29,000 PARKSIDE REALTY Phone: 707-255-2482 or 707-255-3938

Many of the club's original plans had to be scuttled due to the cha nge in venue... these included an information booth, in which materials from each of the member clubs would have been handed out concerning the individual breeds. The location of the original show site, of course, would have brought thousands of passers-by, and most of the club's plans were aimed at this group. Final mention must be made of the Officers of this club, a s w ith a ll groups, these individua ls provide the backbone..
