Brought to you by the Newfoundland Club of Northern California NCNC members and their dogs have been busy. Austin (Kevin & Laura Gallagher) had multiple Best of Breed awards. Ready (John Pearson & Lori Littleford) and Ramble (Cherrie Brown) both finished their Open (CDX) titles in obedience, and in so doing each also finished requirements for a Working Achievement award (WA). Rose (Lori Littleford & John Pearson) finished her Rally Excellent title. Congratulations to all! Calendar Guests are welcome at general meetings and all other events! Water Seminar Saturday, June 4, 2016 Folsom Lake, Auburn Contact: Cathy Sayre & Carol Chew Club Picnic and Board/General Meeting Saturday June 18, 2016 Board 10am/General 12pm San Leandro Marina Park Contact: Patrick Benshoof and Lisa Lee Water Tests Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24, 2016 Folsom Lake, Auburn Contact: Cathy Sayre & Carol Time is rapidly approaching for the club picnic at the San Leandro Marina Park. This has been a very popular club meeting & event the last two years. Being right next to the bay, the weather has been very mild. In addition to the delicious food, including bar-b-que meats and potluck side dishes, we will again have various activities for you and your Newfs to enjoy. Thank you Patrick Benshoof and Lisa Lee for volunteering to co-chair this event. I understand they are cooking up lots of fun activities! Please mark your calendar for Saturday, June 18, 2016, and sign up to attend! An RSVP form is available on the NCNC website, and more information will follow in the Newfs Paper. With the draft season behind us, our Newfs turn their thoughts to swimming! Groups are beginning water training. Contact Carol Chew or Cathy Sayre for information about training at Folsom Lake, and contact John Pearson for information about Lake Del Valle.

The Del Valle group is still awaiting approval from the park because the lake had some blue-green algae during the off-season. Although no toxins are being detected at Del Valle and people are now allowed to swim, the park has not yet allowed dogs in the water. We are monitoring the status, and we will let you know when training commences. Also, the NCNC Working Dog Committee has planned a Water Work Seminar at Folsom Lake on Saturday, June 4, and Water Tests for July 23 & 24. Contacts for these activities are Cathy Sayre & Carol Chew. The seminar and tests at Folsom last year were all very successful & a lot of fun. The seminar RSVP form is available on the NCNC website, and more information will become available on the water tests soon. We had a wonderful time visiting with friends we see only occasionally, participating in events, and enjoying the dogs. We enjoyed watching local dog Dexter (Joyce Taylor) strut his stuff at the Top Twenty Showcase. We had some modest success, ourselves, representing Northern California Newfs. Ready earned his CDX title with a first place qualifying score in Open A obedience, and he also won the Versatility (VN) class in conformation. Rose took second place in the 8-9 year old veteran bitch class in sweepstakes. In Warwick, Kevin Gallagher (NCNC) and Chris Lyden (NCS), presented a very effective invitation to the 2017 NCA National Specialty, which will be held at the Salishan Spa and Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach on the Oregon coast. Backed up by a short video, large signs, participant bags, a raffle, and numerous members of the show committee sporting matching shirts, Kevin & Chris (co-chairs) succeeded in generating much enthusiasm at the Saturday evening reception. A website is now available for the 2017 show. (You can access it through the National
