Volume 4, Issue 2 PET TIP OF THE MONTH FELINE AIDS Feline AIDS, also known as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus or FIV, is a widespread viral infection that attacks the immune system of cats. It is caused by the same family of virus that causes AIDS in humans and has much the same devastating impact on infected cats. It is not contagious to people but is transmitted from cat to cat. The virus devastates a cats immune system, stopping it from effectively combating other diseases and infections. Infected cats eventually fall prey to a wide variety of secondary illnesses that overwhelmingly prove fatal. There is no cure but cats have been know to live with the virus for many years, much of it in seemingly good health, until finally succumbing to the disease. WE RE ON THE WEB AT: www.humanesociety citrus.com IMPORTANT: May 15 - National Hug Your Cat Day - May is Be Kind To Animals Month Your vet will test your cat for AIDS, so you can be aware of his condition.
