Fun Days Chukar Shoot The goal of the Fun Days Chukar shoot is to allow individuals and/or dogs, new to the event, an opportunity to gain exposer while allowing seasoned handlers a chance to refine their skills. The Fun Days Chukar shoot rules are simplified from the standard rules and are intended to help make the event fun and educational while maintaining the structure and intent. Fun Days Chukar Shoot rules: Summary: Brace is 15 minutes. The goal is harvest three Chukars using the least number of shots and time. Detailed: 1) Clock starts once handler or dog crosses into the field 2) Only 3 birds per brace. Additional birds will not count. The clock will stop and the handler must exit the field upon the 3rd birds flush and completion (harvested or missed). 3) Your run is over when the last bird is in hand and your dog is under control. Or, when the allotted time runs out. 4) Scores are based on the time to harvest 3 birds, and the number of shots used. 5) Any shots after 6 will be counted as penalty and time added 6) Retrieves are not required to score a bird. 7) Any shots at designated Safe Zone, Gallery, Judge, Dog, Blind etc., will result in immediate DQ from event. 8) A safety can be called by the Hunter or Judge. 9) Upon exiting the field, the handler must produce any birds, shots to be counted, towards a score. Except for birds that have had Safeties granted. 10) Your gun is to always to be unloaded with actions open. The only time your gun is to be loaded is at the starting gate, and while actively hunting in the field. When your run is over, you will unload your gun before exiting the field. Special Notes: Non-shooting handlers can participate in the JR Chukar Shoot. An approved Gunner can work with the handler for their designated brace. Blaze Orange must be worn above the waist by all individuals in the field. vest, hat etc. Gunners or shooting handler must have a valid CA hunting license. As a reminder 2016/17 licenses expire on 6/30/2017. There is no harvesting of birds out of bounds. All birds harvested must be produced from inside the boundaries of your field. Birds may not be shot on the ground; all shots must be in an upward direction. A dog can be run in multiple braces, with the same or different handler, on the same day as long as they have paid the appropriate entry fees prior to the start of the event.
Only the handler/gunner are allowed in the field during the brace, all others must stay with designated safe zone until the handler/gunner and dog exits the field. Electric dog collars are allowed. Check cords or leashes are not. You may only use one e- collar on a dog during your brace and the collar must be worn around the dog s neck. Bitches in season may compete after all males have completed their braces. All dogs in season need to be kenneled away from other dogs; preferably in your vehicle parked away from other contestants. All dogs that are not on their run need to leashed or kenneled. No loose dogs. All bitches in season must be kept away from other dogs. All Hasting Island hunting rules apply
