Next Meeting 7:00 PM Monday, October 8, 2018 President s Message, Thank you to those who responded to my inquiry about the awards/holiday banquet. Although there were various opinions about the location and the event as a whole, one overall theme came through: it s time for a change. Within a few days of sending that message, I received news that made the decision easy: the dog track has changed their racing schedule and those changes mean the facility will no longer work for us. Starting from scratch to secure a new banquet location for a group that is very price sensitive and can vary in size from 40 to 80 is a daunting challenge, especially with only a few weeks to work with. So, for 2018 we are going to try something entirely different. This year we will hold the awards party at the OCOD Training Center on Monday, December 3 rd (in the evening) to move it away from our trial. We will bring in food (like Publix trays) and drinks and make it a festive evening to celebrate the successes of our members and their dogs. Stay tuned for more information. Next Cleaning at the Training Center. I am just cursed right now trying to find dates that will work. The original date in early December conflicts with an agility trial that will be attended by many of our members. So the new date is Sunday, November 25 th at 12:15 and, yes, I know that is Thanksgiving weekend. We are out of options. As the 4 th quarter of 2018 begins, we need to be thinking about 2019 and what we can do to improve the club. We are already one of the best dog training facilities in the Southeast but there s always something that could be better. Maybe we could borrow an idea from a location you have visited. Keep that in mind as you travel for trials or vacations. Pat Mozden General Club Business

Page 4 October 2018 Chatter-Barks Sincere Sympathy to Margaret & Anna Johnson I lost Mother's 14 year old Cavalier, Merry, this weekend. She came to live with me when Mother went into Port Orange Nursing and Rehab. Almost every Sunday, Merry and I would go and visit Mother. Many of the staff as well as other residents enjoyed Merry's visits as much as Mother did. Once a Therapy Dog, always a Therapy Dog. New Puppy for Donna Ward! Introducing Neff s Cool Ocean Breeze aka Breez. Breez is another of Chip s daughters and full sister to Ember. She just turned 8 weeks old, I met the breeder in Fort Pierce to pick her up. So far she is getting along with her dad, sister, and Aunt Phantom, as well as 2 of the cats she has met. She will be starting puppy class this month. Looking forward to a lot of fun training this baby (along with the her dad and sister). We have lost another one of our members. Joan Eddy passed away on September 25, 2018, she was the most gently, kind, loving person that you would ever want to know. Joan was active in Obedience, Agility, and the Dancing with your dog. She was in many of our performances over the years and always had a very cute routine. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

Page 10 October 2018 Chatter-Barks Proposed Changes to the Club s By-Laws To Be VOTED ON at October Meeting The board is recommending a change to the club By-Laws. It is important that members attend our club meeting and vote on this change. The purpose of the change is to allow the board sufficient time to discuss all business without being rushed to do so in a one hour time frame. Not all board members can come earlier than 6PM. But if we extend the board meeting from one hour to two hours, many members will not be able to stay an additional one hour for the general meeting time. It is expected that the board meetings will be held immediately prior to the general meeting. However, when there are a lot of topics on the agenda, this By-Laws change will allow for a meeting to be held on a different day, typically on the first Monday of the month. The time and date for the board meeting would be published in the newsletter and/or emailed to the club. This will allow all members the opportunity to plan in advance to attend the board meetings if they desire to do so. OLD: SECTION 3. BOARD MEETINGS: Meetings of the Board of Directors shall be held within the Greater Daytona Beach area, immediately prior to each monthly Club meeting at such hour and place designated by the Board of Directors. Written notice of each meeting shall be by electronic or postal mail by the Secretary to all Club members at least five (5) days and not more than ten (10) days prior to the date of the meeting. The quorum for a meeting of the Board of Directors shall be a majority of the Board of Directors. REPLACE CURRENT PARAGRAPH WITH: Meetings of the Board of Directors shall be held at a time and place determined by President. Notice of the board meeting shall be published in the monthly newsletter or emailed to the membership at least five days and not more than ten days prior to the date of the meeting. The quorum for a meeting of the board of directors shall be a majority of the Board of Directors.
