Hi, my name is Princess Daisy (A032053) and I m the pretty Walker Hound on the cover! I ve been at Pender County Animal Shelter since November 2018 and I just can t understand why! I m a gentle, quiet, sweet and clean girl who will be a great family member. I m only 2-years-old, spayed and vaccinated. I get along with other dogs and I didn t mind the cat who appeared out of nowhere at the photo shoot. I am heartworm positive, so adopting me will literally save my life! In return, you ll gain a devoted friend and surely generate some great Karma. My friends at Monty s Home brought me to the photo shoot because they love to help dogs like me. In fact, they hold a Pet Expo each year which benefits their rescue programs. Pender County Animal Shelter, where I come from, is one of the places where they rescue dogs. My cover photo was taken at the Coastline Conference and Event Center, which is where the Pet Expo will be held! Read all about it on pages 22 and 43. Photo by: Michael Cline Photography PawPrints Magazine's Homeless Cover Model If you re interested in meeting me and possibly taking me home, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or send an email to jhorton@pendercountync.gov with questions. Warm thanks to Michael Cline Photography for giving me this chance to find a family!

I guarantee I will be in your lap in a second if you come to visit me! I m keeping my head high that someone will pick me any time I get visitors at the shelter. And why wouldn t they? I m a sweet, playful boy, and I love people. I ll be at Paws Place waiting for you! Call 910-845-7297 for directions to the shelter or for answers to any questions. I arrived at C.A.R.E. with a broken leg but I am completely recovered from surgery, feeling great, and ready to go to my new home! I m a girl who likes children and laser pointers. My hobbies include climbing in linen cabinets, chasing the little red light in circles, and snuggling with humans. I am spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and litterbox-trained. If you are ready for a fun and friendly addition to your home and you think I might be a good fit, please call 910-256-2624 or send an email to carewilmington@yahoo.com. Hi, I m Amber! I m 1½-years-old and weigh 40 pounds - I m very tiny. I have 2 fur sisters and 3 fur brothers and I m the smallest out of them all. My fur brother and I are the only ones with an underbite which mommy finds adorable. I love to play with my fur brother, Bear, and fur sister, Daisy, (she's adopta-bull, too). I'm kind of shy but I m getting over my fears. I really love giving kisses and will groom you to make sure you're clean - who knows what dogs you touched while you left me at home. Speaking of leaving me home alone, I m really good in my crate and enjoy sleeping there all day until you get home from work. Then we can go sleep in bed and I ll give you kisses and watch TV with you. I d be best with people who want a happy balance of a playful and relaxed dog. I d love to have fur siblings but I can also be your only doggy. Please adopt me because I would love to be a part of your life! For an explanation of our adoption process, application, and fees, email info@mpbf.org, visit us online at mpbf.org, or give Merit Pit Bull Foundation a call at 336-618-PITT. I am sponsored by Robyn Davis in loving memory of Duncan. Hello everyone! I am BC, a senior lady with many years of Barn Cat service under my belt. Everything was great with me until I got into a little mess with one of those predator types out there where I was working. I ended up losing my right front leg, but I m getting pretty comfortable living the life of a tripod so don t you worry too much. Following my surgery, SOAR got me transferred into their shelter from Southport Animal Hospital. Being cooped up inside a lot is not exactly my style, because I had been living pretty happily alternating between my outside barn duties and enjoying the comforts of indoor living at night. I would love to return to that lifestyle. I m spayed, fully vetted, and quite social. I will work for food and a warm bed at night. If you think we d be a good match, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and tell them you re coming to visit. I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge. COASTAL CANINE RESCUE I m Nova, a 5-year-old Pit Bull mix who weighs 45 pounds. I am very friendly and love my foster brother. I m energetic and love to play. Adoption Options We are all from different Animal Rescues. Please read our stories! FUREVER FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE A kitty like me only comes by once in a lifetime. My name is Mr. Big and I need a new home. I have been living at Capeside Animal Hospital as an indoor/ outdoor cat for quite some time. I ve grown tired of visiting the outdoors and want to remain inside all of the time. Sadly, the hospital is not the best environment for me. I am super affectionate and not everyone who comes in here wants my love and attention. I would do best in a home where there is not so much stress and no other cats. I could be open to living with small dogs but I d like to talk with you about it first. I m a 4-year-old, neutered boy who is 14 pounds of love. Call 910-383-0287 or visit www.fureverfriendsnc.com to adopt. A SHELTER FRIEND My name is Gypsy and I am a young girl with simply stunning markings. I am shy at first, but my sweetness takes over as we get to know each other. I am already spayed and vaccinated and ready to begin my life as your beloved companion. What are you waiting for? Please call my foster mom, Sherry, at 910-231-4913 to learn more about me and how we can meet. You can also visit us online at www.ashelterfriend.org and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend. OPERATION TOPCAT My name is Lyla and I m an 8-month-old kitty who was found as a stray. I am friendly and enjoy being indoors. I am very loving to kids and adults. I like to play but also enjoy sitting on your lap for kitty snuggles. Dogs scare me so I may have had a bad experience with a dog. I would do best as the only cat or with an older non-dominant calm cat. I ve received all my vet care and I m microchipped so I m ready for a loving inside furever home. Could it be with you? To find out more info or to meet me, please call 910-200-0612 or email otopcatnc@aol.com. ROSEYS RESCUE INC. I m Rue, a 3-year-old Lab/Chow mix who was born 3/25/16. I was adopted back in June 2016 by a family who also adopted my brother, Bruno (pictured on page 32). My family split up after the hurricane and they didn't want to take care of us anymore. After the hurricane, we were put outside in the backyard and not allowed to come inside. All of my toys and beds were gone and there wasn t even a dog house to sleep in. My heart is broken and I want someone to make me feel better. To adopt, email my foster mom at roseysweezers7@aol.com or call 910-547-0998 and leave a message. You can see more pictures on our Facebook page - search Roseys Rescue. COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (C.A.R.E.) My name is Rogan! At 6-years-old, I m a very sweet boy who loves to lay outside in the sun, and I will never turn down a dog cookie! I am fine with most dogs and have not shown any aggression towards cats thus far. I like children and I enjoy sauntering down the halls at Atlantic Animal Hospital nosing for treats. I recently completed my heartworm treatment and am ready for a new home! Please call 910-256-2624 or email carewilmington@yahoo.com for more info or to submit an application for my adoption. NHC RABBIT RESCUE OF WILMINGTON Hello! I m a beautiful, 4-month-old, silky gray diva who just arrived at the CAT Adoption Center at Petsmart on New Centre Drive in Wilmington. I m a petite kitten who was once running out of time at a local Animal Control. I m so happy to be safe that I show my appreciation by making little kitty biscuits. My other favorite hobby is begging for attention! Since I know you won t be able to resist my adorable face, you must drop everything and meet me for some snuggles as soon as possible. I love people, other cats and only need a fluffy bed to feel right at home. Adoption hours are 5pm to 7pm on weekdays, 1pm to 5pm on Saturday and 1pm to 4pm on Sunday. Please call 910-392-0557 to adopt us! Adopt-An-ANGEL My name is Charlie. I was found running loose in Downtown Leland and no one came looking for me. I am the sweetest, young Hound you will ever meet. I am loveable and so eager to please. I just absolutely love people. I am mid-sized at about 35 to 40 pounds and do well with other animals and kids, too. I would make a great pet for a family looking for someone to make them smile and laugh. I tested positive for heartworms and it will be paid at the group's expense, so there is no additional cost to my adopter. Please come see me at Petco on weekends or call Jill at 910-620-3783. Hello, my name is Smokey and I'm happy to meet you! I m a very nice, 35 pound mix who is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. My owner was put in a nursing home so now I must find a new home. I would be best in an adultonly home and can do fine with animals, but please separate to feed me if you have other pets in your home. Please call my foster mom, Sherry, at 910-523-1254 to meet me. My name is Reuben and I am an 8-year-old Walker Hound who was found running loose in Wilmington just before the holidays. No one came to the shelter looking for me or to adopt me. The shelter asked Adopt-An-ANGEL to help me since it was clear it may take a little time for me to find a new family. So, here I am. Hello family! I know you are out there and you just haven't figured out I am the one yet. I am mid-sized, weighing in about 45 pounds. I am a healthy, sweet and happygo-lucky kind of guy. I tend to see the glass half full. I love food and have a little bit of pep in my step. I would do great with cats, kids and dogs, too. I may need a little bit of training in the manners department, but if you have a sense of humor, I will be fine. Please come see me at Petco on weekends or call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783. P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408 We are a 9-month-old bonded brother and sister and our names are Crissy and Clyde. We came in with our sister from the New Hanover County Animal Shelter back in the summer. Our sister has already been adopted, but we're still waiting on a forever home. Our foster mom introduced us to her dogs and other cats and we got along with them really well. We both love to play and are good snugglers. We would love to find a home together since we've never been separated. My name is Bella and I am the prettiest blue and white Pit Bull you will ever meet. I am about 3-years-old and I m I am happy, playful and energetic. I seem to do ok with other animals, but am too playful for a cat. I lost my home when my owner's living situation changed unexpectedly. I am undergoing heartworm treatment and it will be paid for at the group's expense - so no extra cost to my adopter. Please come see me at Petco on weekends or call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783 to arrange for a meet and greet. My name is Cricket and I am the sweetest Labrador mix. I am mid-sized at about 40 to 50 pounds. I was originally rescued after Hurricane Matthew in 2016, and adopted. Unfortunately, my family had a new baby and it was not working out for me. I would do best in a home with older kids. I seem to do well with other dogs, too - but have never lived with a cat. Will you come meet me at Petco on weekends or call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783 to arrange a meet and greet. http://www.adoptanangel.net February 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 11

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out! Hard to believe a gorgeous girl like me is still waiting for a family at the shelter, but it s true! My name is Sasha (A032293) and I m a 2-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix girl. I am simply a LOVE Bug, with emphasis on love. I really enjoy being with people and I play well with other dogs. I m energetic and I love to play, so a family or person with an active lifestyle would be perfect for me! We can go on adventures, get some exercise, play at the park and beach, and then wind up the day with lots of hugs and kisses! Here s more good news: I m already spayed, heartworm negative and on prevention. But hurry, dogs arrive at the shelter every day and there s not enough room for us all. REALTOR for RESCUES Where Every Sale Helps Rescues! Selling properties in the area for 14-Years. Call me to find out how selling or buying a home can help rescues. Glenda Eason - Century 21 Sweyer (910) 612-4776 Hello there! My name is Ranger and I have quite a story to tell. It all began one stormy night when I was found on the side of the road in the pouring rain. My rescuer asked Pender Humane Society for help and, of course, they said yes! At the vet s office it was discovered that I had severe skin issues, infected ears and heartworms. I weighed only 45 pounds, which is about 20 pounds underweight. Fast forward to today and my ears are healed, my hair has grown back, I ve gained weight and I m heartworm free! I m learning commands and having so much fun with my toys. I m timid around new people, though, so I hope my future family will give me lots of love and patience and time to thrive and grow. I will be so grateful in return! Please call the shelter at 910-259-7022 and tell them you d like to meet me! Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day! Of all the kitties at the shelter, I ve been here the longest! Back in 2016, when I was just a small kitten, a lady found me sitting under the hood of her car. Fortunately, I had let out a sweet meow before she started it up! Pender Humane Society took me in, named me Star for the white spot on my chest, and I ve been here ever since. I will admit I m a little shy when you first meet me, but just keep scratching my cheek and chin and watch me transform into a relaxed purring machine. I not only like to be rubbed, I m also a fan of little fuzzy balls that I can bat around. And my health? It s excellent - I m neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. So what do you say? There s just no sense for a nice boy like me to be homeless. Call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 with any questions and I hope to see you soon! I am sponsored by Cole and Slate Mayew. Thank you!

Please call 910-792-9014 to adopt us! I am gentle Sebastian, a wonderful 4-month-old kitten. I m a striped Tabby who looks as if I ve dipped my snout in a bowl of milk. I m a goodnatured boy who was rescued with my siblings from under a trailer where I was born. With the help of kind volunteers, my family is now safe and ready to find loving forever homes! We all have our kitty bags packed. Rescued kittens are the best! I m Piglet and I m so sweet! I m a 5-month-old orange Tabby boy who likes to be held. I'm the ultimate Snuggle Bug! My most favorite hobbies are playing in the water dish, chasing strings and sleeping under the covers. I will grow up to be a gentle giant to match my personality. Please think about adopting me along with another kitten so we can grow up together. CAT: Cat Adoption Team We re at Petsmart 7 days a week. I m Marshmallow and I m everything you could possibly want in a kitten. At 4-months-old, I m a medium-haired, orange and white male beauty. I m so soft that you won t want to stop petting me and I m so loving that I won t want you to stop! My favorite pastime (besides playing with my sister Smores, pictured below) is making kitty biscuits in your lap. Please consider adopting me and Smores! I m Smores, a frisky little 4-month-old Calico kitten with the cutest pink nose and beautiful markings. My name was inspired by my sweet nature and loving personality. Like the treat, you ll want to snuggle up with me by the fire! I m here with my brother Marshmallow (another fluffball pictured above). We love each other and would be so very happy to find a home together! LAP CATS ALERT! We two brothers are the sweetest 5-month-old kittens that you ll ever meet. I m Anton, the bobtail tuxedo laying down, and that s Darius, the handsome black beauty sitting upright. We will affectionately pile up on each other and will include the nearest human if you don t mind the company. Could we replace your favorite blanket this winter? If so, then you d better come and meet us soon! You can find us at the CAT Adoption Center at Petsmart on New Centre Drive in Wilmington. We have so much love to give! I m Halcyon and I m handsome! At 2-years-old, I m a super-friendly and chilled-out orange Tabby boy who has found myself homeless. All I want is to find a cozy new home where I can nap in a patch of sunshine by day and chase catnip stuffed mice by night. Young adult cats often get overlooked when the kittens steal the attention but, really, I m the perfect age for adjusting to a new family. I m fully vetted, neutered and microchipped, too! Next to PT's Grill on the way to Wrightsville Beach 910-256-2229 www.grabslice.com My name is Camilla and I am a gorgeous, dainty pastel Calico. I am young at between 1 to 2-years of age. I found myself homeless at a local shelter with a litter of newborns. I raised everyone and they were quickly adopted. Now, I am patiently waiting for a home to call my own. I am a little bit of a diva so I would be best as an only pet. I can tolerate dogs, but cats aren t my favorite. I am super friendly with my people though. You can find me at Petsense in Shallotte or you can contact my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783 and she can meet you closer with me. For more info on the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or visit us at www.adoptanangel.net. I am sponsored in honor of all the wonderful foster mommies & daddies who care for homeless animals. My name is Felix. You might be asking Why do I see a mostly-boxer with a Basset Hound Rescue? Well, that s a long story. You see, my unlikely roommate Oscar the Basset Hound and I arrived at the Carolina Basset Hound Rescue (CBHR) at the same time. We were reported as a bonded pair, but as it turns out, we are not quite that close and I am just fine in my new foster home. I guess we were somewhat unlikely companions, just like the other Oscar and Felix. I have a lot of energy and like to play catch and fetch. Compared to my current Basset roomies, I am quick. Even though I am faster and bigger, I am gentle with them. Honestly, I think they look funny and need to grow longer legs. I really like my chew toys and I understand toys are for chewing and other things are not. I also know how to sit and lay down on command. My foster family has really helped me with going outside and using the doggie door. My leash-training is going very well and I am a great guy and full of life and love. I promise to sleep through the night, behave myself, and be a great addition to your forever home. Why don t you give the CBHR a call? If you are interested, please call 888-909-2387 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fostering, please contact CBHR for more details. I am sponsored by Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar in Carolina Beach in loving memory of Bess.

Please call 910-253-1375 to adopt us! Cat Tails Have you been looking for a friendly kitten? I m Harper and I m 7-months-old and extremely friendly. I have never met a person I didn t like, so I greet everyone who comes in my room. I love to be held and sitting in laps is another of my favorite things. If you really, really want a friendly kitten, come to Cat Tails and meet me. I ll be waiting for you. Every week, someone calls about me, Carson. Lots of them even come in to meet me. But everyone is disappointed because I look young in my picture - I m almost 1-year-old. Really, a year isn t old! I still love to play and act silly, but I know how to behave so I m really better than a little kitten. So, here s a new picture to change my luck! Come adopt me and you ll find out I m right. I m Toby, a big, orange, 2-year-old boy and I absolutely must get out of here now! Really, I don t like being here and I want out. I m in a room with a bunch of other cats and we all want to be in charge. I have a problem with that! I love people but I would do best in a home with no little children and definitely no dogs or other cats. I m Maxwell, a buff colored boy and I m 10-months-old. My best friend and sister just got adopted and I m lonely. I need a new best friend and I think it could be you. I m a very nice cat who is clean and well-behaved - no trouble at all, really. I get along well with other cats and I ve never met a dog, but I could probably get along with one of those, too. What am I doing here? I should have been adopted by now. My name is Daisy, I m 9-years-old, and I m a beautiful tuxedo cat. But the main thing is I m front declawed. I won t mess up your furniture or your woodwork. I would like to have a home without dogs or kids. I can stand one other cat but no more. Oh, and I should have a bit of a diet! My name is Jack and I m a 4-month-old black kitten. I m here to represent all of the black kittens still up for adoption. Litters of kittens have been coming in to Cat Tails all summer and fall. All of the bright colored kittens have been adopted and we, the black kittens, are left here while our brothers and sisters go to their new homes. Since we are just as sweet and playful, I think you should come adopt two of us! 6622 Beach Drive SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469 www.cattails.org February 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 19

Onslow County Animal Services Call 910-937-1164 or 910-455-0182 or email animalcontrol@onslowcountync.gov to adopt! It has been 2-months since I came to the shelter, and still no one has taken notice of me. I m not sure why - I m such a loveable Hound. My name is Opie (40278974) and I love my people and love to play. I am a very sweet, smart and affection loving boy who would do best in a home with a stayat-home human, a big yard for running and play and lots of friends to keep me company. I have learned the sit command while I ve been at the shelter. I m very treat motivated and eager to please my people. Though I am a happy-golucky kind of Hound, I am a bit overwhelmed at the shelter and would love to never have to sleep in a kennel all alone again. If you are looking for a loveable, playful, active young pup, I may be the boy for you. Hi, my name is Josie (40200686)! Everyone at the shelter wonders how I have been homeless for over 2-months. I may be a bit rambunctious (you would be, too if you were stuck in a kennel) but I have a lot of love to give to the right person! I am a very energetic and playful girl. I enjoy running outside and playing with toys - the squeakers are my favorite! I love to play with other dogs who also enjoy rough-andtumble play. Though I do need to work to learn my manners (as all dogs do), I respond well to the corrections that my handler gives me. I would benefit best in a forever home that will give me a big, fenced in yard to exercise my legs and exert all of my energy, as well as a nice fluffy bed to sleep on at night. I'd love to meet you, don't you feel the same? Hey there, my name is Sherlock (40483111) and I m a senior Hound in need of some TLC. I am a gentle, sweet-natured boy who came to the shelter as a stray. It seems like I have been uncared for or on my own for quite some time. Despite my troubles, I m a happy, affectionate boy and would be an amazing friend for life. I have great manners on a leash and would make a terrific walking companion. I know how to sit and shake on command, I take treats gently, and I m good with other dogs, too. I m looking for a home with a nice cozy bed to snuggle in, lots of love and a place where I can leave my worries behind. If you are able to open your heart and home to a senior pup, I would be a most grateful Hound. Personality with good looks, that s me. I m a handsome guy named Miles (40411642) and I am a sweetheart! I am a 1-year-old, fun and feisty boy who loves toys and playtime, but I also love a good snuggle. I even love being held like a baby. Everyone here is perplexed as to why no one has chosen an amazing cat like me...but I m ready and waiting for a family to love. I m a gorgeous girl named Clementine (40313120). I have been at the shelter for over a month and have gone completely unnoticed by potential adopters. Even though that really sucks for me, I don t let it get me down. I am always full of love and happy wiggles and wags. I love people, adore walking at the park and playtime. I do well with other pups, too. I m considered highenergy and very athletic, so my family should be, too. I would make a terrific running partner, or companion for a family who likes to go on adventures. Life s a party, man. My name is Murphy (40432297) and I m Murph-elicious... aka a silly, playful, loveable boy who loves people, toys and especially treats. I am a friend to everyone I meet and do well with pups who can keep up and play hard. I will make a fine friend for an active family looking for an affectionate, and fun-loving pup. I am already house-trained and ready to find a home with a forever family. 244 Georgetown Rd., Jacksonville, NC www.onslowcountync.gov/animalservices February 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 21

I promise it won t take me too long to warm up to you, and we can be best friends in no time! I m Casey and I never thought I d find myself at a shelter again. I just want to know what it s like to have a family who loves me! If you like to run and play, too, then I don t see why we couldn t be the best of friends. You know where to find me! Hey guys, it s me, Brock! I m a 3-year-old Boxer mix. You might be able to see that I have cherry eyes. The vet tried surgery to fix them, but they keep coming back. I can see just fine, though, so they don t bother me! I guess my eyes are just a little special. What would be really special is if my forever family would come take me home! I love other dogs, and I really love people! My true passion, though, is playing, and I would be perfectly happy in a multi-dog home or if I was your only love bug. Clyde, our home is not the same since you crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on December 21, 2018 at the early age of 8-years and after a battle with Lymphoma. You were the most gentle and kind Basset Hound who loved to chase beloved tennis balls (and collect them all in your crate), beg for carrots, take long walks and go on boat rides with your humans! And most of all...you loved to snuggle! You were a favorite at rescue events and would have the crowd cheer for you when you would 'sit like a rabbit' for treats! You helped people understand that even the most gorgeous pure bred dog could be found in shelters and be in need of a home. You were a great representative for homeless Basset Hounds and with your wonderful personality and 'chick magnet' good looks...you encouraged people to adopt their next furry family member! Clyde, you may no longer be with us physically, but you will always be in our hearts! We miss you terribly every day and not a moment goes by that we don't think about you! Run pain free, our sweet boy...we love you to the moon and back! Love you forever and always, In Loving Memory of Clyde Your humans Leslie & Mark Armstrong and your pack Cletus, JJ, Penny, Lacey, Utah, Flo, Elvis & Hazel My name is Tia and I am an amazing cat. I wandered up to a volunteer's back door and she tried to find my owner, but no one was looking for me. I am super friendly and so loving. I seem to do well with everyone I meet: cats, dogs, kids and strangers. I am flexible and super easy-going. I am a pretty pastel Tortoiseshell - which is kind of rare. I have the prettiest markings. You can come see me at Petsense in Shallotte or call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783 and she can meet you closer with me if that is too far away. For more info on adopting me, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or visit us at www.adoptanangel.net. I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you! I'm Bruno, a Labrador and Pit Bull mix born in May 2016. I was adopted in September 2016 and lived with my brother and sisters inside the house for 3-years, until the hurricane. After that, my family split up and we all had to live outside. I don't go potty in the house, and I don't pull on the leash. I even slept in my crate when nobody was home and I liked it. My first mom (aka foster mom) came and got me and my siblings and she is trying to find us another home - one that is forever. I am neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm negative. I do love to play and my foster mom said I play too rough sometimes, but when she tells me to stop, I do. I play nice with my big sister, Rue (pictured on page 9), because she is the boss. I miss having my toys and playing ball and tug-o-war. I can show you how fast I can run in my yard, I love to run! I also love to play in water: pools, hose, water bowls, whatever is close by! I love all my sisters and brother, but new dogs make me nervous. I like to jump up and kiss you all over your face when you come home and hug you. I just want somebody to love me again. Russell Rescue Inc. - Carolinas Call 910-821-3504 to leave a message or email mcbburton@alumni.unc.edu to adopt! I am Freckles and I am 13-years-old. My siblings and I were surrendered to the shelter when our human faced medical issues. My foster mommy says that I act like I am 5! When I feel like it, I will run circles around the house and grab toys from everywhere and hoard them in my pile. I love car rides and visiting stores. People love me and I get so excited! I sleep at the end of my foster mom's bed at night with my two foster sibling Jacks. I pretty much like everyone! I am pretty chill when you want to relax, then ready to walk or hike if you are ready to go! I am always bouncy, happy, and give kisses! I sit for treats and beg for yummy food. I was spoiled in my past life. I am spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and was well-cared for in my past life so am super healthy! Mom says I am not incontinent, but I do need to potty at least around lunch. Maybe a home with a human who has a flexible schedule, works from home, part-time or is retired would be perfect for me! Mom comes home from work and walks us all every day! If you think I can cuddle with you, let me know! Often times, prospective adopters aren t interested in saving us older pets. That s unfortunate because you ll eliminate the pleasure of knowing me! My name is Buddy and I am approximately 13-years-old. I ve spent my whole life as a devoted canine companion and recently came to rescue when my human went into hospice. I miss him so much but I m still ready to bond with you. I m the type of little senior friend who shouldn t be avoided but, instead, chosen for my attributes. I m beyond all of that puppy silliness, but not beyond seeking the gentle touch of a human and doing my best to please you. I am an old man so I need frequent bathroom times. I love food, especially breakfast and dinner. I am a social eater! My back legs are not the strongest but I m currently on joint supplements. I enjoy having someone around me as I get lonely. Could you give me the chance to live out the twilight of my life in the comfort of your home, surrounded by love? Michael Cline Photography What's up folks, I'm Caeser and I'm 7-years-old. I am currently being fostered in Wilmington, NC. I was surrendered by my owner when they had medical complications. My siblings were surrendered with me and my youngest sister has already been adopted. If you have read the post next to me about Freckles, she is my big sister. I am a super chill dude, and am up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped, and house-trained! I am currently in a home that has other dogs and kids. I love kids! I love waking up beside my foster human siblings, they are so good to me. I would love to be in a home with other dogs and kids would be great. I love to play! I'm just so much fun to have around. If you are looking for a lot of fun in your family, I am looking for you to be the last best chapter in my story. Save a Life, Foster a Jack Russell Russell Rescue, Inc. is a national network of volunteers dedicated to placing unwanted and abandoned Jack Russell Terriers into permanent homes. The Carolinas Region is headquartered in Wilmington and the rescue is in need of foster homes for rescued Terriers! All vetting is provided. To become a foster parent, email Bernadette at mcbburton@alumni.unc.edu, call 910-821-3504 or visit www.russellrescue.com/volunteer. My name is Peewee and I grew up in Florida. Unfortunately, the first 8 or 9-years of my life there involved me living in a cage at a breeder facility with my mom and sister. Rescues jumped in to help my family, but I was left last because I am deaf. You see, I was born deaf, so I have known no other life. I live in Wilmington with my foster sister and brother Jacks. I can be mellow, or crazy. I show my excitement by doing zoomies and turning in circles. While I am shy, some days I get brazen enough to steal kisses. Treat time is my favorite! I know to run to my crate and jump inside. I stay there beside my friends while my foster mom works. At night, I sleep on my bed where I can see her. I like knowing she is nearby! I would not do well in a home with children or large dogs. I need a fun, goofy canine friend my size, and a pretty laid back home. I don't like seeing other dogs when I am on a leash and sometimes the vet scares me. But my foster mom says I make her laugh and she loves me to pieces. She is sure you will, too! Please visit us online at www.russellrescue.com for more information. February 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 35

Hi, I m Zoey! I weigh 9 pounds and am a mix between a Yorkie and a Poodle. I have Yorkie ears, curly Poodle fur and a silver/ white coat. I was purchased from a breeder for $1500 when I was a tiny puppy. I was too little to leave my mom and the home was not a good fit for me. The people who bought me decided to get rid of me. Now, that actually turned out to be a good thing, because I finally made my way to Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas. SRC is always willing to help dogs like me, whether Schnauzers or not. I am now up for adoption and I m a total sweetheart. Now, yes, I can be a little bit temperamental if you don t give me time to adjust, but once I get to know and trust you, I am like Velcro and I love to hug the neck of my favorite human. I am spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and ready to find my home! To read more information about me and fill out an adoption application, please go online and visit us at www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You can also email adoptions@schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org or call 919-723-7145 for an application. P.S. Mention this PawPrints ad for a discount on my adoption donation! I am sponsored in memory of Muff, Freida and Claire.

Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us! SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Harper here, a pretty Calico! Bet those paw prints have you thinking I must have scaled the wall to get to this window perch. Not really, but I did jump up here with no trouble at all - pretty good for a young lady with only one hind leg, right? If you take me home, you ll see for yourself just how well I can manage on only three legs! Oakie here, reporting to you live from the big cat room. I came to SOAR as a frisky kitten. That was in 2009 if you are keeping track. My job title here is Big Cat Room Lead Greeter. If you haven t already gotten the idea, I am a very social boy who would definitely brighten your days if you would give me the chance. Adopt me and I ll tell you how I got my name! Cuddle here! I was taken to SOAR after having been found in a barn in Whiteville with my 3 sibs. They have since found homes, but I am still waiting. I am an affectionate boy, though I can be a bit shy at first introduction. When I m ready to drop my guard, watch me roll over for all of the pets you can muster. Don t even try to outlast me. And don t be offended if I balk at being picked up - it s just not my thing right now. Look for me in the big open room in back of the cattery. I have been assigned to keep the SOAR veterans in there on their toes. Who s that silky smooth, bright-eyed beauty? Why, it s me, Otis. I m here at SOAR because the family had to move and couldn t take me with them. I had been with them ever since they adopted me as a kitten, living an indoor-only life. They had me neutered and have kept me up to date on vaccinations. And I m litterbox-trained, too! I promise you that I m a very friendly boy and I ll be happy to have a new life in your home. I m Billy Bob and hopefully I ll soon be getting kisses in my new furever home! I am 2-years-old with an adorable bobbed tail and, even though I m growing up, I still have some playful kitten in me! I also get along really well with other cats. I m truly one of the friendliest felines you will ever have the good fortune to know. Please adopt me! Well, I m no Spanky, Darla or Alfalfa, but I am quite the Little Rascal just the same! Everyone around here seems to agree that one thing I am for sure is totally cute! I m an orange Tabby boy who tested positive for FIV, but that doesn t make me any less cute or any less capable of enriching your life for possibly many, many healthy and happy years. Find out more about FIV online, from your vet, or call SOAR at 910-457-6340. I want to grow up as part of YOUR family! 3376 St. Charles Place Southport, NC 28461 www.soar-nc.org February 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 39

Breed Rescues We are all from different Breed Rescues. Please read our stories! GREAT DANE FRIENDS OF RUFF LOVE Hi, my name is Pluto and I am a 160 pound male Great Dane. I am 8½-years young and have a beautiful blue merle coat. My foster parents say that I am a Velcro Dane - I always want to be near my people and touching them. I love to have my head and face rubbed! I am housetrained, walk well on a leash, know commands, and am a good boy when left to roam free in the house. I would do best in a home with other animals but they must be calm. I also would enjoy parents who take me on walks! For an application, email greatdanefriend@yahoo.com or call 704-584-9257. Check out some of our other Great Danes available for adoption at www.greatdanefriends.com. CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE Hi, my name is Elvis and I am a happy-go-lucky guy! I am 11-years young, crate-trained, house-trained and my ears perk up every time I hear my name! I love to take walks with my foster mom any time she will go and I would even like to run with someone who jogs! I am a very spunky Basset Hound! I LOVE humans and I will immediately roll over for a belly rub any chance I can get! If you are looking for a low-key Basset Hound who can be a couch potato when you want to relax but also play and go for walks - I m your guy! If you are interested in meeting me or hearing more, contact my foster mom, Leslie, at 910-352-5150 visit www.cbhr.com. MERIT PIT BULL FOUNDATION I m Daisy, a sweet southern belle. I m 2-years-old and weigh 55 pounds. I'm calm but also like to play with toys and chew on antlers. I m crate-trained, pottytrained, walk really well on the leash, and I m great in the car. I'm good with other dogs - just introduce me slowly and let me do a proper background check! I live with four other dogs and we play together a bunch. I can get jealous sometimes and want all the love. I m great with the little humans and have met a lot of all sizes, even a newborn baby. I would never jump on them and just want to give kisses. CHIHUAHUA RESCUE & TRANSPORT - SOUTHEAST My name is Eugene and I m a Chihuahua and Chinese Crested mix. I am 9-months-old and weigh 6 pounds. I m ALL puppy. I love to play with my foster Chi s and really love human affection. I love to play and race around. I am learning boundaries and working on cratetraining. I will be potty-trained soon. Due to no hair on my body, I cannot be out in the sun for long periods of time without sunscreen. My skin will need special attention to keep it moist and healthy. I am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm preventative. To adopt me, call 910-297-6874, email carolinascoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com, or visit www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/. CAROLINA BOXER RESCUE My name is Helga and I'm as loveable as they come. My foster brother and I like to run and play together and go for walks. We don't fight over toys or food which I think is pretty cool because I love treats and toys. My humans are great, too. I love being with them and getting head and chin scratches. I have something called "Cherry Eyes" which sounds yummy but the vet said needs to eventually be fixed. I think I would be a great addition to any family. I would love some kids to play with but I also wouldn't mind being the center of attention. I like to chase small critters, but dogs would be ok with a slow introduction. I'm excited about finding my forever family! To adopt me, email carolinaboxer@gmail.com or call 910-799-5638. Visit www.carolinaboxerrescue.org for info. My name is Joy and I was rescued just as I was running out of time at a shelter. I had suffered from horrible abuse in the past because I was terrified of humans and lived under the bed. A loving and stable foster home has allowed me to blossom into the most wonderful young lady. I am perfectly house-trained. I will tell you when I need to go outside and I have no bad habits. Recently, I discovered toys and I love to play and move the toys all over the house. I require an adopter who will be willing to spend time bonding with me. It will not be a quick transition but I am worth the effort. I would be perfect for a mature couple or single female.
