Remember: Only certified weed free grass hay may be fed on the State Wildlife grounds. Hay will be available through the club for $16.00 per bale. Please indicate the number of bales you will need when sending in your entries. Space for boarding horses is available at the Kit Carson County Fairgrounds in Burlington. There is a $5.00 fee per horse each night and you must clean out your stalls.

Welcome to the South Republican Wildlife Area. Be sure to read, understand and obey all rules. Camping: Will be at Hale Ponds between the road and the ponds. A limited amount of overnight camping is allowed on the trial grounds (20 occupied camping units). If you plan to camp overnight make a reservation with the Field Trial Chairman prior to the trial. If we can t accommodate you, there are several campgrounds in the area of the trial that allow overnight camping. An additional 16 unoccupied rigs may be left on the grounds. Horse / Storage: During the day horses maybe tied to trailers, (but not staked out) for the purposes of feeding, watering and resting on the Hale Ponds side of the road but no closer than 30 feet to the ponds. No horses will be tied to the trailers or staked out on the Hale Ponds side of the road overnight. Horses maybe staked out overnight across the road from the Hale Ponds. Staked out horses must be moved daily or more often to minimize habitat damage. Additional space is also available in the existing corral by reservation with the Trial Chairman and 12 additional horses may be housed in temporary corrals next to the permanent one. Whenever possible board your horse in town at the fairgrounds. Horse Feed: Any hay, straw, mulch Alfalfa, Grass on DOW Property must be properly marked certified weed free hay. Leave your non-certified hay at home or in town. The Club will provide certified hay at $16 a bale. Participant may also use commercially processed foods. Please call Jeff Hoskins at 303.921.1077 to reserve your hay. You can also get cubed hay at many feed stores. Roads / Vehicles: Vehicles are allowed on improved roads only. The official dog wagon only will be allowed on designated access roads and will travel no farther than the end of that road. Participants will only drive on designated access roads. ATVS / Dirt Bikes Etc.: Leave your ATV s at home any use of an ATV is forbidden. This includes public roads in the trial area. Hunting for animals is not an acceptable excuse. Dog Wagon: Do not stake out dogs for the dog wagon driver. Put the dogs name on its kennel or have someone in your camp designated to deliver the dog to the dog wagon. Personal vehicles cannot be used to deliver dogs on access roads that have been designated for the dog wagon only. Birds: If you have birds with you keep them contained in your vehicle. Training: There will be no training on the grounds 2 days prior to and 1 day following the trial no training is allowed on trial days some exceptions may be allowed with specific permission of the trial manager. Once birds are released they become the property of the state. No recall devises are allowed. Animal Feces: Do not clean out your horse trailer on state land. Horse feces and non-eaten hay must be spread around. Dog feces must be picked up and disposed of in deep cover. River Crossings: Trial officials will lay out all courses prior to the start of each event. Judges, handlers, marshals and gallery will adhere to these courses. Handlers will regulate their riding speed to stay within the course. No one will cut the course. Of particular concern are river crossings. These will be designated and adhered to. This is particularly important on the east end of the trial grounds where there are no cattle crossing. When a dog has a find across the creek only those persons required to handle the dog should cross the creek and this should be at the closest good spot. A good policy is one horse at a time at creek crossings. Be sensitive to the breaking down of creek banks, this activity degrades the area, an activity we should avoid whenever possible. Smoking: Is allowed inside vehicles and campers only. Rules apply during the trial and any period before or after the trial that a participant occupies the grounds. Enforcement: Breech of these rules will be considered unsportsmanlike conduct. Remedy could result in scratched entries with no refund and withheld placements. (03/04003-2) Dog Stake Out: Constantly barking dogs do not enhance the field trial experiences. Single pin stakeout chains are not allowed. Dogs on this type of stakeout create a donut shaped depression that is very conspicuous. Multiple pin chains and chains attached to trailers are allowed. But should be used for very short periods of time to feed and defecate only. If you have diggers, feed them in their kennel, and walk them on a lead. Any holes must be completely filled in leaving no depression.
