Parking trailers in forests prohibited during hunting season Flagstaff, Ariz. The Coconino National Forest is asking all northern Arizona-bound hunters to refrain from leaving their trailers unattended in the forest during the upcoming hunting season. In previous seasons, law enforcement officers have found numerous trailers parked in the forests for the purpose of reserving a location for the entire hunting season and also because the individuals did not want to haul their trailers back and forth. Parking a trailer in the forest for this purpose violates Forest Service regulations. If trailers are left unattended for more than 72 hours, the Forest Service considers them abandoned property and may remove them from the forest. Violators can also be cited for this action. Enforcing these regulations protects the property and allows recreational users equal access to national forests. This regulation applies to all national forests in northern Arizona, including the Coconino, Kaibab and Prescott forests. For more information, contact the Coconino National Forest at (928) 527-3600. Letter from the President AZPDC President 2013 2014 Wendy McNabb It s been a busy two months without a newsletter and I must apologize. I had every good intention of sitting on the Lanai in Hawaii with a Coke and a laptop, but time just slipped away. During the three weeks, I did however manage to concrete in some plans for upcoming events and overt a TOC meltdown. Three weeks came and went in a flash! So here I am now. So, let s play a little catch up on the upcoming events with the club. Mark your calendars and watch your email or mail for further information. First of all October 26 th and 27 th Ron Horn and Homer Gribbon will be putting together another training weekend. Training, BBQ and camping up at the High Desert Hunt Club. Second, November 9 th, I have put together a Fun Shoot and BBQ at Ben Avery for club members and families only. All you pay for is your shooting and the BBQ is on the club. I am hoping that this is a good way to get everyone out together, no dogs, just some friendly competition, some good food, seeing old friends and making new. And last on the agenda for now is hold the date of March 29 th for the Annual Awards Banquet and Dinner. We were also set to have hunt test with the Grand Canyon Brittany Club, unfortunately it had to be cancelled. Karen had the heartbreak of losing two of her dogs this summer and has since gone back to work full time, leaving her little time to set up the joint hunt test. I will try to post each month any information I have I upcoming events with any other clubs. Thanks goes out to Jason Taylor for chairing the August Trial and Lese Page for helping. Marty Elliott for taking on the last minute Chair of the TOC. Without him stepping up to the plate, we almost didn t have a TOC on the date planned. And once again Lesa Page for all of her help with TOC. If you made it out to the TOC or if you saw the photos I posted on the clubs Facebook page, you will notice the crafty work of Jamie Brooks and Marty Elliott. Together they made a Winners Podium for the winners of the trials to have their pictures taken. I hope in the future, all of the winners will stay after every trial to have pictures like in the days gone by. Lastly, I have had reports from three of the four committees that things are progressing nicely. If you are on these committees, thank you for taking your valuable time to participate. Your participation helps the club now and going forward to be a success. Until next month, happy hunting all!!!! Wendy McNabb, AZPDC President

The Board of Directors and Members would like to welcome all of our new and returning members, their families and dogs to the Arizona Pointing Dog Club. We hope to see you at our Trials, Training Days, Annual Banquet and everyone is welcome at our monthly (second Tuesday of each month) meetings. We encourage you to get involved! Below are the dates being presented by the Trial Committee, please pencil them in on your calendars. If anyone would be willing to commit to Chair any of the dates, please contact Erik Ersland - eersland@hotmail.com. We need you to make these trials a success! This recipe comes from Kansas Topeka Pheasants Forever chapter. Ingredients ½ c. plus 2 T. olive oil 4 red onion slices, cut ½ inch thick 6 T. fresh lemon juice 8 c. torn romaine lettuce ½ t. Tabasco sauce Lemon wedges 1 t. dried or 1 T. fresh thyme 1 c. thinly sliced red bell pepper 1 c. crumbled feta cheese 8 boneless, skinless quail breast Directions Whisk olive oil, lemon juice, Tabasco, thyme, salt and pepper to blend in small saucepan. Arrange breast pieces and onion slices on a plate. Spoon 4 tablespoons of dressing over mean and onions; turn pieces to coat evenly on all sides. Let sit for 5 minutes. Prepare barbeque grill and get coals glowing to medium hot. Put saucepan with remaining dressing at edge of the grill so it will become warm but not extremely hot. Grill breast halves and onion slices over hot part of grill until just cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer meat and onion to another plate. Separate onion into rings and cut breast halves into bite-size pieces. Place lettuce in large bowl. Add meat, onion and bell pepper. Add warm dressing and toss to coat. Season salad to taste with salt and pepper. Divide salad between four plates, garnishing with feta cheese and lemon wedges just before serving. Serve with fresh pita bread.

If you are interested in the seminar, it has limited entries. If you plan to attend please send a $50.00 deposit check made out to Rick Smith with your name and phone number and email address to: Arlette Hennessey 774 N Wheeler Rd Coolidge AZ 85128. We NEED more volunteers - mentors, dog handlers, camp managers, etc. Please reach out to me directly to let me know what you'd like to do. We also are welcoming all the Friends of Quail Forever kids to come join the camp. It's going to be a great weekend for the whole family - come join in - we have everything. Quail Check Stations... October 5 & 6 is quail season opening weekend and AZG&F has said we can spend some time at their check stations, talking with quail hunters. We still need volunteers to spread the Quail Forever word. In the future... Quail Forever has applied for a Beginners Dove Hunt camp grant for late November or early December to be held near Robbins Butte. This if for folks new to doves - young or old. Seasoned dove hunters, we need your help providing guidance. Rookies - sign up to get a great introduction to the exciting world of doves.
