Good Sportsmanship Award Nominations The Good Sportsmanship Award is presented to a nominated person by the membership of the Atlanta Kennel Club for his or her positive attitude and display of Good Sportsmanship in all his or her activities and contributions to the club. This person is normally a member of the club however anyone can be nominated. Send your nominations to the Digest Editor, Sandy Weaver golfndogs@att.net Judges Selection Committee 2020-2021 Please call committee members from the appropriate group to suggest judges for consideration by the selection committee which meets several times during the year. Please remember not everyone suggested can be placed on a panel due to a variety of reasons however club member input is given priority. We do work with our sister cluster clubs and also have a policy not to hire the same judge for the same show 2 years in a row. Since we do share judges with the other cluster clubs, we tend to try to hire judges approved for several groups, if possible, to control expenses through judge sharing. Members provisional for any breeds are also given a priority as well as suggestions from specialty clubs for their supported entries. AKC Political Action Committee (PAC) In March of 2018, The AKC Political Action Committee (PAC) launched the Club President s Challenge (CPC). The CPC challenged Club Presidents to help fundraise for the PAC from individual club members. Since the AKC PAC is not allowed to accept donations from clubs themselves, we relied on individual donors within clubs to support our mission of protecting the future of purpose bred dogs and the sport we love. With the help of Club Presidents and Club Secretaries, the AKC PAC raised over $40,000 in less than nine months. We hope to continue to build on this success and increase donations allowing us to continue to support elected officials who value the sport and the dogs we love. At the AKC National Championship, The AKC PAC recognized the Top 5 clubs in two categories for 2018; in recognition of achieving a Top Five Club Level of Participation and in recognition of being a Top Five Donor. The following clubs achieved a Top Five Club Level of Participation: The Arapahoe Kennel Club, Clearwater Kennel Club, The Scottish Terrier Club of America, The Tampa Bay Kennel Club, and The Kennel Club of Riverside. The following clubs were recognized as a Top Five Donor by amount given: The American Tibetan Mastiff Association, The Arapahoe Kennel Club, The Atlanta Obedience Club, Trap Falls Kennel Club, and The Australian Terrier Club of America. There were other club successes in 2018 as well. Some smaller clubs were able to collect donations from each individual member. Special awards go to Arapahoe Kennel Club, Clearwater Kennel Club, Pontiac Kennel Club, Siberian Husky Club of Greater Detroit, and Tampa Bay Kennel Club, which had 100 percent participation in the 2018 challenge. Your efforts can help change the political landscape for responsible owners and breeders. The AKC PAC is a non-partisan, single-issue advocacy group that supports the election of candidates who demonstrate a commitment to the future of purpose-bred dogs and can impact dog ownership laws at the local, state and federal level.
