Pedigree & Crossbred Limousin Cows and Calves from T Jones of Brookfield Leighton kicked off the day with a Pedigree 7 year old cow with 7mo bull calve at foot achieving 1410, Outfits with Heifer calves achieved 1340. In calf cows sold to 124, In Calf Heifers to 840. A Pedigree Stock Bull from the same home achieved 1290. Bulls always fetch a premium keen bidding in Shrewsbury with sucklers to 805 for a Limousin from F A Morris, 790 for another Limousin from David Evans, Dairy bred 12mo Simmental Bulls from Martin Evans Ltd achieved 720. Weanlings saw a significant lift in the pre-christmas trade, the smaller the weanling the dearer it looked! Top call was 830 for a single 14mo steer from Stuart Ratcliffe, whose 11mo models sold to 825 (2) (3), A very good run Stuart! Suckler heifers were also topped by the Ratcliffe family this time it was James with a 10mo heifers to 670 (2) 665 (2). A good
trade achieved for 3 Charolais X Heifers at 520 these 5mo cattle from WT Davies of Ty Gwyn. Some 3 month old Limousin Heifers from Fred Karle achieved 500. Dairy Bred Weanlings a plenty today and sold at very good rates for all on offer. 10mo Limousin Steers from DG Pryce 670, Blues from the same home 575, 9mo Blue Steers from Martin Evans Ltd 555, 10mo Hereford Steers from RST Morgan 520, 8mo Angus Steer from Martin Evans Ltd 530. In the natives, a selection of nice Herefords from Mr Birchall topped out at 215 and Angus`s sold to 3150 form GJ Garmston. James Meddins sold a lovely Friesian to 3135 with others to 98 from Brooks Farming. Heifers topped out at 280 for a Limousin from C Shingler again with Blues to 250 from DI Jones of Park Fields. Most in demand this week was the lambs weighing 38-41kgs with an SQQ average of 198.65ppkg. Roger Hillage sold his 39kgs continentals to 222ppkg and also had his 37.5 to 213 ppkg. Several leavy lambs presented were better sold on the week averaging 184ppkg for 45kg-52kg. Top price in the lump went to J parks who sold 52kg at 94.50 with R conde selling 46.5kg at 91. A high demand from buyers for heavier meated sorts made for a good
trade. Poorer sorted animals are proving harder to sell due to a lack of demand. The top price of the day was a pen of 7 Cull Ewes presented by KR Macdonald of Lyonswood Farm.
