Dear Parent, Thank you for downloading this brochure about our 2013 Animal Training Adventure summer camp. Our new summer program offers kids and teens the opportunity to learn basic animal obedience training and more advanced animal training through hands-on activities with rescued dogs and puppies. Every camper will work both independently and in small groups with puppies ranging from 12-weeks-old to 16- weeks-old each day of the session. We use lessons and activities on dog behavior designed by Yale University s School of the 21st Century and developed with renowned dog behavior expert Cesar Millan, from NatGeo WILD s Dog Whisperer series. Each session is one week long; and we have seven different weeks from which to choose, beginning June 17. Although every session will cover the basics of dog training, the activities, invited guests, and group interactions will vary each week. 2013 Summer Camp Animal Training Adventure summer camp offers kids and teens the opportunity to learn basic animal obedience training and more advanced animal training through hands-on activities using rescued dogs and puppies. Animal Training Adventure incorporates lessons and activities on dog behavior designed by Yale University s School of the 21st Century and developed with renowned dog behavior expert Cesar Millan, from NatGeo WILD s Dog Whisperer series. Using these lessons and activities, campers will learn critical skills that will help them in their interactions with people (and animals) in school, at home, and later on in the workplace. This camp experience will support the development of calm, confident, and caring children and teens that can make a difference in the lives of people, animals, and the environment. In addition, campers will also learn how to manage their emotions, get along with others, acquire empathy and compassion, and discover essential decisionmaking and teamwork skills. This camp uses rescued puppies and dogs to provide a live, interactive experience with all sizes and breeds of canine companions. Animals participating in our camp are rigorously tested for temperament and safety when working in a group setting by a professional dog handler prior to being selected. For this reason, campers may not bring their personal dog to camp. Only selected dogs and puppies may appear at camp, and all other dogs and puppies are prohibited. Basic Dog Training 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Grades: 3 rd -5 th and 6 th -8 th Fee: $175 per week Campers will have the opportunity to learn and practice the basics of dog training. Campers will have hands on experience with training, socializing, and grooming puppies provided by area rescue organizations to prepare these puppies for adoption. In addition, campers will learn to recognize and use Cesar Millan s nine core principles for creating a balanced dog. The session will also include animalthemed arts, crafts, and games. In addition, campers will have discussions with guest speakers who train dogs for a variety of purposes, like helping children learn to read, helping the visually impaired, and show performance. In addition, campers will learn from a series of lessons developed by Cesar Millan called Dog Dialog. Dog Dialog presents a unique opportunity to teach young people effective ways to interact with dogs and how dogs behave in nature in order to better understand canine characteristics and behaviors.
