Lorna Schuster Best in Show Trophy Presented at ATCV Championship Shows from 2012 L o r n a Schuster (nee Green) acquired her first Airedale Terrier as a young girl and joined the ATCV in 1930. She b e g a n breeding under the Hillmere prefix in 1931. Over the years Lorna imported six Airedales from the UK, most in partnership with other breeders, all of which made a significant contribution to our breed. Lorna became Secretary of the ATCV and held this position for many years until she and her husband Clive moved to WA in 1954. At this time her contribution to both the Club and the breed was recognised by the Airedale Terrier Club of Victoria and she was appointed as the first Life Member of the club. On her return to Melbourne in the early 1960 s Lorna again became active in Club affairs and over her time in the Club occupied nearly every official position and she continued to serve regularly on the Committee until the mid 1990 s. In 1970 Lorna trained the first Terrier bitch in Victoria to gain a Companion Dog title Ch. Hillmere Calypso CD and a long line of Hillmere obedience title holders followed. Lorna s interest in Obedience continued over the years and it was through her enthusiasm and encouragement that the ATCV introduced Restricted Obedience Trials on a regular basis throughout the 1980 s and 90 s. Lorna bred innumerable Hillmere Champions (her first Ch. Hillmere Valiant in 1945), provided foundation stock for many of the old established kennels in Australia and New Zealand and won many Club Specialities, Royal Challenges and Best in Show (All Breeds) awards over the years, as well as all of the Club trophies many times over. At one time, Lorna held the unique honour of being Patroness of each of the affiliated Clubs in Australasia Victoria, New South Wales and New Zealand. Bill Brilliant Trophy for Best Opposite Sex in Show Bill Brilliant commenced his long and successful career in the Dog World with the purchase of an Airedale bitch in 1923. His association with dogs included breeding, exhibiting, importing, judging and administration. His first imported dog was Orator in the mid 1920 s followed by Wrose Palm, Fernbank Rascal, Princehill Alpha and his last Riverina Gulliver in the mid 1950 s. Stoneleigh his own kennel prefix became well known for quality Airedale Terriers such as Stonleigh Stormer, Ch. Stonleigh Solario (the first Airedale to win Best Dog in Show at the Melbourne Royal Show in 1934), Ch. Stoneleigh Sapper, Ch. Stoneleigh Safegaurd and Ch. Stoneleigh Supreme. Bill was involved in the formation of both the Airedale Terrier Club of Victoria in 1929 and the Sporting Terrier Club of Victoria. He was President of the Victorian Poultry and Kennel Club from 1948 to 1962, was appointed to the Committee of the Kennel Control Council in 1947 and was an All-Breeds judge from 1956 to 1972. He was recognized as an authority on the Terrier breeds and filled many important judging appointments. He judged our Championship Shows in 1947, 1949 and 1965. His contribution to the dog world was recognized by Life Membership of the Airedale Terrier Club of Victoria in 1964, Sporting Terrier Club of Victoria and the Victorian Poultry and Kennel Club. He was made a Life Member of the KCC in 1978 and was Patron of both the ATCV and the ATANSW. Bill celebrated his 100th birthday on 3 August 1986. Bill Brilliant contributed much to our Club, our breed and the Dog World generally and holds a unique place in Airedale Terrier History. Lorna Schuster s influence on the Airedale Terrier world was immense over the years, made all the more admirable by her unselfish and untiring efforts for the good of the breed as a whole. Lorna passed away in May 2000 aged 88.

Class 12B Veteran Exhibit aged over 10 years for Exhibition only 1. M. Downie s Jutta Jumbuck Of My Mind w. 25/8/2000 Von Der Schwarzen Kuhle Schii D. Esther of My Mind Br. B. Meyer S. Ger. Ch. Karlo We were fortunate when we bought Jutta that Frau Meyer allowed us to name her with the proviso that it must begin with J which is how we arrived at Jutta after my good friend and Jumbuck to indicate our connection with Australia. Jutta started travelling at an early age spending her first Christmas in Italy. (She has been to many European countries travelling by car, train, ferry and plane.) She was a great traveller who would happily sit for hours looking out the back window of the car. (Unfortunately she wasn t so good at staying in her room as she had very quickly learnt how to open doors. On more than one occasion she d escape and come creeping down the stairs to greet us.) In restaurants Jutta would happily sit under the table (as is the custom for dogs in Europe) a habit which she still has. It is usual for the waitress to bring out a bowl of water for her before serving us. Jutta s show career was short as she didn t enjoy the ring. (You will probably see this today.) Her highest achievement was second in a junior class at the 2002 National Dutch Airedale show. Jutta came home with us in 2003 and had a litter of nine in 2004. I have many happy memories of Jutta as a puppy. Her first friends were some whippets but her best friend in Germany was Tayla a standard poodle from Canada. Jutta loved to run and enjoyed the freedom of the open fields of our village. She has always loved water and would go for a dip in the creek even when there was snow on the ground. Snow bought her much enjoyment. It was a delight to see her flying around a field of virgin snow leaving her footprints everywhere. Jutta s first and best friend in Australia is Jessie (an Airedale) who we met on our first walk at Ruffey Park where Jutta would always have her dip in the lake. Jutta has a lovely nature and happily allowed Jessie to meet her pups. She also took a grandmotherly interest In Wuschel s litter and enjoyed playing with them. Jutta is now the matriarch who spends a lot of her day sleeping. However, she does enjoy her garden and will happily sit out there contemplating or simply chewing a bone. 2. S & C Duff s Ch. Airewood Time Traveller w. 30/6/01 Br. Exh. S. Ch. Brislines Playboy (Imp USA) D. Ch. Airewood Mystic Red Airewood Time Traveller `Zorro as we called him, was whelped on the 30/06/2001, Zorro was lightly shown and however gained his Australian Champion title in 2003, he was a natural showman and enjoyed the attention and fuss made of him when being campaigned in the show ring in the 2000 s. Upon reaching his title we decided to retire him from showing and placed him with wonderful Airedale people, Sue Forrester and Bill Molyneaux, to which are both well known identities throughout the Airedale fraternity and especially Sue s ongoing work to this day of Airedale rescue being ` AireNet. Aerem, as he soon became known with Sue and Bill, upon reflection brings to mind the way Aerem would do his voluntary workout like clockwork in the show ring at our Christmas club breakup & members competition still to this day is held at Sue & Bills property `Wombat Bend, this is while the said exhibit was doing their workout for the judge at the time. We all present to you our gorgeous boy `Aerem AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION AIREWOOD TIME TRAVELLER.
