AKC Delegate: Judi Roller judi002@centurytel.net President s Message Thank you all for a wonderful 3 years as president of a great organization. I'm looking forward to more years of sharing all things dog with all of you. I want to encourage you all to step up and offer your time to help our organization run smoothly. I started at BKC for the class discount but soon realized BKC does not offer classes if there is no one to teach or no one on the board or no one running our events, fund raising, chairing committees. We need bodies in these roles or BKC does not exist in the way it has in the past. As of this time we still do not have anyone who has stepped up for a President nomination. We also have an open board position. I had no board experience prior to this. If I can do it, so can you. The board members are supportive. Our General Meeting is on Thursday June 21 at 7:00pm and we need you there to vote in officers for the board. We will also say thank you to outgoing board members Judy Donmoyer and Tami Jackson. Please plan to attend. (Note: There is no General Meeting or BITS in July.) Lynda Nelson BKC President Training Management Please see that attached training schedule for June/July 2018.

Upcoming Programs Thank you to the BKC Board for the first BKC Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in May! And thank you Ann Koski for taking a lead in coordinating a fun evening!! The next general meeting with be Thursday, June 21. Presentation, The Thoughts and Emotions of Animals, will begin at 7 PM. Join us for a presentation by Susan Rustick, a new BKC member and Teacher at Edgewood College. Susan will share stories about the thoughts and emotions of some amazing animals. Susan has been teaching at Edgewood College in Madison for nearly 30 years, and has designed and taught courses like The Dog-Human Partnership, which included talks by Patricia McConnell, field trips to the sheep dog trials, the Wisconsin Dog Fair, and a week-long sled dog camping trip in the Boundary Waters Northern Minnesota in mid-january. Susan has also been teaching a course called Justice and Compassion for Animals for the last few years, which focuses on the humananimal relationship, animal ethics, and animal capacities. Susan has loved all animals all of her life, and especially dogs. She s been emotionally invested in Tibetan breeds for the last couple of decades, with two Lhasa Apsos, a Tibetan Terrier and, most recently, a Tibetan Mastiff in her family pack. Susan has been an owner handler for Chandi, her Tibetan Mastiff, and has taken her through her AKC championship and 97 grand championship points. Susan took handling classes here with Karen Shaw, who had her work cut out for her when Susan showed up with her Tibetan Mastiff puppy and a braided slip rope leash. Lynn Montgomery Hooray! It s Summer!

Puppy Up 2018 Puppy Up 2018, which is a fundraiser for cancer research to support both humans and animals, is Sunday, June 24th and we definitely need more people for the Badger Kennel Club team! The walk begins at 11:45am and they do register people at the event starting at 10am if people decide last minute they want to join in! This is the website address if people scroll down to register, then to join a team, the teams are in alphabetical order and ours is Badger Kennel Club, https://puppyupwalk.org/madison/ Please come and join this amazing cause! You can bring your family and friends, as well as your canine family members! Let me know if you need any other information from me! Thanks, Katie Stroik Farewell s At the May general meeting we learned of two members that will be taking on new adventures out of state this month. Thank you to Anne Koski, BKC Board Member and Shirley Cunningham, Membership Chairperson, for all the time and support they ve given to BKC!! Although these are exciting & necessary moves, Ann to Iowa & Shirley to Indiana,... we wish them well and I hope they know how much they will be missed!! Lynn Montgomery Obedience and Rally Run Thrus Please note that there are no rally/obedience run throughs for the months of June, July and August. See you in September!
