The strongest meated cows were the best trade, but also the well bred feeding cows were well sought after with several buyers for tested cows. Heavy Blue cows sold to 121ppkg from G & M & A Jones of Cefn Dre with similar to 120ppkg form M Jones, Manor Farm with fleshed Freisians selling to 115ppkg, several cows sold to over 110ppkg. Best blues from Mr Ellis of Pentre Wern topped the bull calf section today trading to 280 for an older example. The Griffiths of Wingfield House sold a younger Blue to 238 with another from Mr Ellis at 235. Sims from Mr Lewis of Woodcote Farm were up to 195 with plenty more second quality Blues around the 200-230 mark. A lovely looking Hereford from Mr Lewis made 230 and Angus s from Darlington Farms were up to 145. A nice little Welsh Black from the Roberts of Y Ddol made 132. A bit better Friesian trade today with the best from Messrs Hanmer of Forton Heath Farm up to 92, the best at 65-75, mediums 40-55 and smalls around the 30 mark.
Trade on the Heifers was better with a good Sim from Mr Lewis making 265 and Blues from Lady House Farm up to 250with plenty more around the 225 mark. Lims from the Povalls of Elsich Barn traded at 205 with Sims to 172. There were a nice group of weanlings to end the day from Mr Lewis of Woodcote Farm and The Povalls of Elsich Barn Farm doing particularly well. The latter sold a very good Lim Bull to 440 with Mr Lewis making the same of Hereford Bull, and up to 410 of a run of Sim bulls. Sim heifers were 350. Plenty of calves expected every week for here on in so something for everyone to get stuck into. A good trade with the heavier meated sorts still ringing the bell. With a top price of the day going to a pen of Texel Ewes presented by SP & CP Williams. Both Ewes and Tups held a strong average with Tups averaging 12 more than the previous week. Help from a large demand of heavier sorted ewes and tup buyers. ******************IMPORTANT**************** MORE CULL SHEEP NEEDED STORE SHEEP (177) A more modest entry this week but still a very competitive trade for in lamb ewes and store lambs. A few full mouthed welsh mule in lamb ewes scanned at 200% sold to 106 from AR Beckett. Other aged cross bred ewes sold to 78 and 70 from P Williams Rhiwsaeth at over 200%. Store lambs sold to a high of 75 from T Tudor for Suffolks with strong Tups to 72.50 from Harnage Estates. Good quality growing lambs sold to 64.80 from Shropshire & Jones. With the smaller the lambs the dearer they were, with miniature Texels to 39.
