AS SOON AS THE Hare and co-hare emerged from setting the run a fine drizzle fell. With the announcements out of the way the pack left following the Hare s instructions and about 15 minutes later it began to pour down. Two of the pack, Lily and Anjalai, returned quickly to get their umbrellas and hence we knew that they would not be venturing into the jungle this night! Others however continued on and braved the increasing rain. I was still recovering from the flu and hence didn t run either so I felt for those hardy enough to run. Earlier Richard had announced that a Guinness would be given to the first 2 dozen runners back in celebration of his birthday and we thank him most sincerely for that lovely gesture. The rain became even heavier some runner must have turned around and headed back as first Edna quickly followed by others arrived back at the run site drenched to the skin. Eugene, Longhair and Frank had arrived late but still went in as they would. The first out took about an hour because of the rain and then others came back with stories of not finding enough paper and that some places were very difficult to negotiate. all because of the weather. Lyna came
back minus Nick who had lagged behind and she was a little fearful that he might get lost since the paper had all but been washed away. Darkness fell early and with it the rain began to ease off. Duncan, a visiting hasher, returned drenched but saying how much he enjoyed the run and how different from other places. Finally Longhair and Frank returned and very shortly after Nick showed up too however Iceman was still missing and it wasn t until after 8pm that he returned saying he had followed wrong paper at some point and went up to the top of Cendana. Food aplenty was being served at Big Bens and the Hare even put on 5 crates of beer (3 Bavarian and 2 tiger)as well as a bottle of whisky for the Members and guests to enjoy. Thanks Good Year for the good run, good food and especially the beer and whisky. It was a shame about the weather but we are hashers after all! Circle: 1. We first welcomed our guests for the evening, Duncan, Sunny, Cheang and it was great to see Shirleen once again. 2. To make Duncan @ Mr. No Nuts stay in Penang more memorable we sat him on the ice to give him a proper Harriet welcome. 3. The GM then charged Lily and Anjalai for returning to get their umbrellas and therefore not doing the actual run. Anjalai had escaped though by leaving and hence Lily was all alone on the ice except for her parasol. 4. Jaimey then charged Cheng for leaving a blue container at Original 5 some weeks ago and then only just asking for it this week. 5. Tina had been away for a month visiting the UK and we welcomed her back. 6. Money Manfred charged Christine with not coming to the run because of the rain but she came for the On On. 7. Norjan and Jaimey were called out and charged by Good Year as being very generous in bring extra delicious food to the run. 8. The last icing for the evening was for the Hare, Good Year (and his co-hare Sai Seng) who had set a good run, served great food and gave out plenty of free beer. Our grateful thanks to you Good Year. 9. Finally the GM wanted to recognize Richard for his donation of a free crate of Guinness for the Hashers and to wish hi a very Happy Birthday for the next day. Lantern Run We will hold our Lantern Run on Thursday September 19 th 2013 at the Quarry Botanical Gardens. All Harriet members are free. All children are free. Guests RM20, which includes a T-shirt and food. (NB All adults who are not members are guests and must pay!) The children will be given Lanterns, taken for a short walk and entertained with games. It will be a light-hearted fun evening. Please give your names to VGM- Beauty Queen if you are coming. If you intend to bring guests and/or children we would appreciate knowing in advance as it is embarrassing to under cater.
