UT Extension Lewis County & South Central Area Fair s Ol Timey Roots Exhibit Pre-register by August 7 at the Extension Office located at the Courthouse or items can be registered at time of deliver on Monday, August 13 between 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the High Forest Room at the Fairgrounds (Memorial Park) Items must be picked up Sunday, August 19 between 2:00-3:00 p.m. Entry is $5.00 per Class entered except Taxidermy & Deer Mounts will be $10.00 per lot entered The entry fee will go to Lewis County 4-H for the support of educational programs.

GENERAL RULES Classes are open to public regardless of race, color, sex, age, religion, natural origin, disability or veteran status. All entries MUST be the work of the person whose name appears on the entry tag. You may enter as many Lots as desired, but you may have only one entry per Lot. Prizes will be awarded based on decision of the judges. Judge(s) will not be required to award prizes unless the quality of the entry is deserving of recognition. Ribbons will be awarded for First and Second Place. 4-H Chicken Show and Auction August 18: Registration is at 8:00 a.m. Show begins right after, followed by the auction All entries are from a youth participating in a county 4-H Chick Chain Best in show and runner up will receive fair ribbon Exhibitors may sell their pen (4 pullets) after the show at auction You must Pre-register by August 15 at the UT Extension Office located in the basement of the Courthouse For more information, you may contact 4-H Agent Ronnie Cowan at 931-796-3091 4-H Bark in the Park Dog Show - August 11 Youth Show will begin at 9:00 a.m. Adult Show will begin at 10:30 a.m. EVERY DOG MUST BE ON A LEASH Each category entered has a $5.00 REGISTRATION FEE PER DOG CATEGORIES ARE: Best Costume Ugliest Dog Best Tricks Best Standard (structure, behavior, appearance, etc.) THIS SHOW IS OPEN TO ALL YOUTH AND ADULTS **Pre-registration is preferred by August 8 at the UT Extension Office located in the basement of the Courthouse. HOME ECONOMICS Shelly Ray, Extension Agent, 796-3091 sray20@utk.edu GENERAL RULES 1. Entries should be exhibited in owner s name only. Only one entry per person will be allowed in each lot. 2. Only products made or grown since last year s fair may be exhibited (except quilts). 3. First place will receive $10.00 payout and Grand Champion will receive $20.00 payout. Fair entries are under lock and surveillance. UT Extension and the South Central Area Fair are not responsible for any lost or stolen goods. CLASS 1 - FOOD PRESERVATION Guidelines: 1. Label all products; use only standard jar with two-piece jar tops. 2. Jellies should be entered in clear, smooth glass pint or jelly jar. 3. Pickles, relishes, fruits, vegetables may be in either pints or quarts. Lot 1- Jam Lot 2 - Jellies Lot 3 - Pickles Lot 4 - Salsa Lot 5 - Misc. Relish Lot 6 - Tomatoes Lot 7 - Green Beans Lot 8 - Tomato Juice Lot 9 - Fruit Misc. Canning Judging Criteria: 1. Judges will be judging on headspace, quality of product and quality of jars/ bands/lids. All canned products must be standard canning jars and have standard canning lids and/or rings. 2. Make sure that the headspace on the jars are correct for the specified recipe: 1/2 for pickles and relish, 1/4 for jam/ jellies/preserves, 1 for meat, soups, and chilies. Put on clean rings, free of rust or stains. Jars should be clean and free of residue. 3

Baked Items CLASS 3 - QUILTS, AFGHANS Lot 1 - Quilt pieced, hand-quilted Lot 1 - Hand Embroidery Judges will do a taste test on all baked goods. Taste test will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13 Special Rules for Grandma s/mother s Cookie Jar Contest 1. The contest is designed for Grandmothers/Moms. 2. The grandmother/mom must decorate and fill a clear, wide-mouthed cookie jar with their favorite cookie made from their favorite scratch recipe. 3. The entry will be prepared from scratch. Mixes will not be allowed. Please bring copy of the recipe to show cookie is made from scratch. 4. A separate zip-type plastic bag containing 6 cookies must be submitted for judging. 5. 4-H members will be judges for this contest. 6. The cookies will be judged on: Flavor 50%; Appearance 50%; Appearance of Cookie Jar 25% CLASS 4 - EMBROIDERY Lot 2- Quilt, machine quilted Lot 2 - Machine Embroidery CLASS 5 - AMATEUR PHOTO This is an amateur contest. No entrant shall be involved in any way with commercial or professional photography or use of facilies of commercial photographers. Adult Youth Lot 1 - Nature/Landscape - Color Lot 5 - Any Subject Lot 2 - Nature/Landscape - Black & White Lot 3 - People - Color Lot 4 - People - Black & White CLASS 6 - CRAFT CORNER Lot 1 - Wreath, any season Lot 2 - Homemade Christmas Ornament Lot 3 - Pinterest Craft. Lot 3 is open for all crafts inspired by Pinterest. Participants must enter craft with a photo of original items on Pinterest. 4

Each entry is $10.00 Lot 1 - Deer Shoulder Mount and Up **This class is open to all who have a mounted deer head and would like to display their harvest. The winner will be chosen by the public. Deer must have been harvested in Lewis, Perry, Wayne, Hickman, Lawrence or Maury Counties. Documentation will be required. Lot 2 - Deer Skull Lot 3 - Juvenile Lot 3 is only open to youth ages 7-16. The deer must have been harvested by the youth entering the exhibit. Deer Mounts brought on Monday, August 13 will be scored by TWRA only if the mount has not been previously scored. **TWRA scores antlers for participant benefit only. Scores will not be displayed for public voting. Entries will be judged based on the quality of work. Please bring Class 2 and Class 3 entries to the Community Building. Documentation may be required. Lot 1 - Sweet Red Lot 2 - Sweet White Lot 3 - Dry Red Lot 4 - Dry White CLASS 4 - AMATEUR WINE Wine 1st Place - $75 2nd Place - $50 3rd Place - $30 Gift Card People s Choice Plaque 1. This is an amateur contest. No entrant shall be involved in any way with commercial winemaking or use of facilities of commercial wineries, other than obtaining grapes or juice. 2. Each entry should be labeled with name of exhibitor number and varietal composition, year of harvest, sweet, dry, etc. No labels with participants name or brand. 3. Dry is defined as not more than 2% residual sugar. 4. Entries will be judged on appearance (clarity and color), aroma (fruit and floral). 6
