Suzanne is an internationally recognized dog trainer and award winning author. A dog s lovers must read is her highly regarded book Bones would Rain from the Sky: Deepening our Relationships with Dogs. She has served as a consultant to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, one of the world's largest guide dog schools. Her Relationship Centered Training (RCT) philosophy served as the structure for updating GEB's puppy raising program. She is a German Shepherd breeder for 24+ years; her Hawks Hunt German Shepherds have been successful in many dog sports as well as therapy work. Suzanne has a deep background of experience that includes obedience, agility, puppy testing, breeding, search and rescue, conformation, instructing, kennel management and canine midwifery. She is well respected for her holistic, relationship based approach to dogs and the people that love them. Whether the audience is companion dog owners or experienced trainers and professionals, Suzanne's broad knowledge, common sense and humor offer exciting, practical information and approaches that will enhance the dog/human relationship. Suzanne will be in Calgary, Alberta: April 13-14, 2013. Suzanne spoke to a full house at Sit Happens! about working with Reactive Dogs in November 2012. If you attended that seminar you were probably made acutely aware of what a keen eye for observation Suzanne has. Not only that, but her gift of communicating just how much and what she sees and her ability to teach others to see the same is remarkable. This next seminar will include a combination of lecture, dog observations, and exercises intended for companion dog owners as well as professionals working in the field. The weekend will no doubt leave you marvelling at what s possible and Suzanne s deeply rich understanding of dogs. On Day 1, she will have you delve deeper into Observation and really Seeing (not just Looking) and on Day 2 you will put those skills to use for Let s meet 1-2-3 (Suzanne s dog-to-dog introduction) and further explore Arousal something many pet owners as well as Trainers continually juggle. If you did not attend the November seminar don t worry/ it s not a pre-requisite! Suzanne Clothier s RCT approach (Relationship Centered Training) continues to form the foundation as she explores these topics with us. CEUs for Certified Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT) pending. Proudly hosted by: Wags unlimited/ Annette Young, MA, CPDT-KA Seminar location: Sit Happens! Companion Dog Training. 16 2333-18 Ave NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 8T6 1

Please read on Included in this package: Seminar description, Registration form, Payment options and cost, Cancellation policy, where to stay, Contact info. SEMINAR TOPICS: SATURDAY APRIL 13, 2013 9AM - 5PM ~ BUILDING OBSERVATION SKILLS A day of Exercises that build observation skills for appreciating & entering the "umwelt" (an animal's perception of its world), reading body language on a detailed and whole body basis. These skills will focus on the dog's sensory input, external body language, understanding breathing, use of space, orientation, geometry, tension & more. With this information, you will improve your observation skills; learn how to really see instead of just looking, and how to watch fine and subtle details from the dogs. *Demonstration dogs will be used for practice, please see more info further down about applying to bring a demo dog. SATURDAY EVENING LECTURE 7PM - 9.30PM ~ THE ADOLESCENT DOG In November 2012 we heard the Enriched Puppy. The April 2013 Evening lecture will continue on and explore topics relevant to the Adolescent Dog. A more detailed description will be available later. SUNDAY APRIL 14 TH 9AM - 5PM ~ DRIVE, ENTHUSIASM, BRAKES AND STEERING: KEEPING DOGS IN THE THINK & LEARN ZONE (TM) AND SAY HI: 1-2-3 GREETINGS Do you struggle with a dog who seems to be part rocket and part rock-head? Is your dog is ready to conquer his next title? Or does he worry about the dog next door? Do you wish you knew how to keep your dog in the Think & Learn zone? Wonder how your dog can tell you when things are just right or beginning to be not so good? Wonder how to keep the drive and enthusiasm but also have some brakes and steering? (*pls see demo dog info blow) Many dog owners and all trainers struggle with the wide range of training and behavior issues that have their origin in arousal, sensory stimulation and reactivity. Whether you re an owner of one of these dogs, an old pro or a new trainer, you and your dog will benefit from Suzanne Clothier s approach to understanding arousal, reactivity, behavior and performance, how dogs think & learn (or don t!) when aroused, perfect performance vs. perfect train wreck, and how to help your dog be the best they can be. Her Relationship Centered Approach is sensible, humane and effective. Topics covered are, for example: The physiology of arousal (understanding ANS (sympathetic, parasympathetic & enteric), chronic stress & the damage it can do, productive & non-productive arousal, fear & anxiety & their effects on learning. The Elemental Questions (tm) The dog and his world, Sensory input & sensory sorting The Think & Learn zone (tm) (why your dog needs to be in this zone, how to see when he s leaving the zone & how to get him back, understanding the Stimulus Gradient) What the dog can tell you (how observable behaviors reflect physiological changes, the power of volitional posture shifts) Putting it all together (Promoting, provoking or preventing handler contributions, Being the best handler & team-mate for your dog) Say Hi 1-2-3 Greetings / dog-dog greetings will also be covered during this day. (*) 2

*Demo Dog Note: A small number of participants dogs may attend as demo dogs. Dogs are pre-screened and hand-selected by Suzanne and you must submit an application ahead of time to be considered. Day 1, these dogs will serve as our teachers as we explore Observation skills. Day 2 the dogs will come out and work on specific exercises and also learn Suzanne s Say Hi 1-2-3 her method of introducing dogs to one another. For this weekend s demo dogs we re looking for dogs who may illustrate the many faces of arousal but should not have big behavioural problems or issues of reactivity and no aggression toward dogs or people. If you think your dog meets these criteria and you would like to bring a demo dog please email Annette with a brief description and I will send you a Case History Application Form. All applications need to be emailed to Annette youannette@gmail.com no later than March 15 th. QUESTIONS? LOOKING FOR MORE INFORMATION?
