Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America Draft Test Purpose The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America Draft Tests are a series of exercises designed to develop and demonstrate the natural abilities of purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs in a working capacity involving hauling. The Bernese Mountain Dog has historically functioned as a draft dog in various capacities, and performance of these exercises is intended to demonstrate skills resulting from both inherent ability and training which are applicable to realistic work situations. Efficiency in accomplishment of tasks is essential. It is also desirable that the dog evidence willingness and enjoyment of his work in a combination of controlled teamwork with his handler and natural independence. 2019 Judges Kathy Berge DVM Christine Mann 11872 G58 Hwy 2942 Sugarloaf Road Indianola, IA 50125 Boulder, CO 80302 Nancy Van Horne Barry Solomon 4308 SE 4 th Place 7334 Plowsher Way Renton, WA 98059 Morrison, CO 80465 Larry Bohlig Jim Maxwell PO Box 463 3444 Broderick St Forest Hills, CA 95631 San Francisco, CA 94123 Schedule Check In - To be determined at close of entries Equipment check - To follow Check-in, there will be an additional equipment check in, case of alternates, immediately following Test hours are 7am-6pm Judging begins as soon as possible after the equipment check Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the test. Lunch will be at the judges discretion Class Entry Details There will be a limit of 24 entries for this Draft Test. Entry fees - $45 for each single dog team and $55 for a brace team A separate entry form must be filled out for each dog of a brace team and then stapled together. Even though two entry forms are required for each brace team, each brace team will be counted as one entry in the Draft Test entry limit. If more than 24 entries are received, they will be prioritized per the following order: 1. Untitled BMD s 2. Titled BMD s Note that titled means titled in the entered class. A random draw will be held for each group in the list including and following the one that causes a total entry in excess of the Test limit. Teams entered in a class in which they have already earned the advanced level title will be drawn after teams without the advanced level title in that class. Entrants must notify the Draft Test Secretary if a dog has earned a title in the entered class, including if the title is earned after the entry has been submitted. Team means either a single dog entry or a brace entry. 1 st entry is team s first entry in a specific class. 2 nd entry is team s second entry in the same class. A team may enter a specific class only once per day. Test preference: Teams entering multiple days may choose which day is their 1 st preference, 2 nd preference, etc., on the entry form. There are no guarantees that preferences will be met. Multiple Team entries: Teams wishing to compete more than once -one team/multiple classes: or one team/multiple entries in the same class competing multiple days A team may be entered in multiple different classes per day or in the same class on multiple days. A team that wants to show twice in the same class in

multiple tests (second or third entry) will only be considered for those additional entries after all other teams have been considered for their first entry in a class. For example, a team may select Novice on Wednesday as their first entry and Novice on Monday as their second entry. Their additional entries will only be drawn after all other teams have been considered for their first entry. A team that wants to show twice in the same class a second entry will only be considered for that second entry after all other teams have been considered for their first entry in a class. For example, a team may select Novice on Tuesday as their first entry and Novice on Monday as their second entry. Their second entry will only be drawn after all other teams have been considered for their first entry. Subject to the above limitations for the Specialty test: Untitled (in the class entered) teams have preference over titled teams. Titled teams have preference over advanced titled teams. A Brace team is not considered titled until both dogs are titled. Move-ups will be allowed. There will be a single equipment check for each test and a separate equipment check for the alternates each day. Regulations Entrants are responsible for obtaining the BMDCA Draft Test Regulations (revised as of 2011) and being familiar with them. Draft Test Regulations may be downloaded from www.bmdca.org at no charge. The BMDCA and the DWC take dog aggression very seriously and have zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior on the part of dogs/owners and/or handlers. For a copy of the Misconduct Disciplinary Procedure, go to the bmdca.org website under the Draft home page By participating in or attending this test, you understand and agree to the terms of the Misconduct Disciplinary Procedure. This procedure is a clarification of the Discipline Section of the BMDCA Draft Regulations Attention Exhibitors The following classes will be offered: Novice, Open, Brace Novice and Brace Open. Handlers must provide their own rigs, harnesses, and tie downs or other means of securing a load on their particular draft rig. Handlers must bring their own weight. Weight will be verified via scale at the test site. Entered dogs must be 24 months old or older on the day of the Draft Test. Open and Open Brace entries must include a veterinary certificate stating the dog s name and weight. This certificate must be dated within 60 days of the date of the test. Bitches in season are not permitted to compete. Entry fees shall be refunded upon receipt of a veterinary certificate stating an entered bitch is in season at the time of the Draft Test. Medical Withdrawals: A handler may withdraw a dog from a Draft Test for medical reasons. Entry fees shall be refunded. upon receipt of a signed veterinary certificate stating the reason for the medical withdrawal. Voluntary withdrawals after close of entries will not be refunded. The two dogs of a brace team need not be owned by the same person or by the handler. Un-entered dogs may be present but, like entered dogs who are not in the ring, must be leashed or crated and under control at all times A random draw will occur after the close of entries, if the total entry is in excess of the Test limit. An alternate list will be made as needed. All entrants will be notified of their entry status. Alternates that are not selected for a test, will have their check returned at the 2019 BMDCA National Specialty by the Draft Entry Secretary (a separate check is to be sent with EACH entry for this purpose). Please know that Cass County, MN where the show will be located is an endemic area for common tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis.
