Calendar Guests are welcome at general meetings and all other events! Regional Specialty Show Friday October 26, 2018 Contact: Kathy Bracisco & Pam Rubio Dixon Draft Test Saturday and Sunday April 6-7, 2019 Contact: Cathy Sayre Vacaville This test will be remembered by several of us as the rock test. Since Oak Beach was very shallow due to lake level, Cathy Sayre was able to work with the park to allow us to use a nice area by the boat ramp. The site included what turned out to be a VERY intriguing rock about 3 feet past the water line that stuck out of the water just a few feet. Mind you, this rock was just OUTSIDE the actual test boundary. Several Newfs, ran afoul of the newish leaving the test site rule. Who knew a rock could be SOOO interesting!

Patrick and McKenzie were next to qualify with Connie Andronico and Aegean bookending the junior division. June Gibson and Phoebe came so close! Dora, Cubby, Rocky and Shiloh earned rock awards. Busy proved even a top ten obedience, High in Trial, dog can fail basic control! It must be the handler. Kathy Mitchell and Crew, then Heidi Forrest and Logan, started the senior division off in style. While the swimming depth at the new site was much improved, we did have some issues with article drift for the WRD dogs in spite of the judge s best efforts to adapt to the constantly changing conditions. These first two dogs easily passed this exercise even with the drift with what may turn out tobe record distance swims. Kona made handler John Morozumi work for her requalification but showed she s still got it at 9 years old, wowing the crowd with her signature jump. Cheers and Meredith were so close, Tess and Bucyk just had a few holes. Post enters Mackenzie and Aegean showed lots of next time potential. Same song, second verse. Sunday s junior division started with Busy earning her ride home. She gave me not one, but two

Ted Hanson and Cubby were next to qualify as the rock had lost its appeal. Cubby showed the solid, enthusiastic performance we ve seen at many a practice. How fun to watch this first-time handler with his future WRDX dog (hint, hint!). Dora and Phoebe were AWD s almost water dogs!senior division started in heartbreaking fashion with Gus adding his name to the rock. Kathy Mitchell and Crew requalified as did John Morozumi and Kona. Sunday-only team Cherry Brown and Paige also requalified. Cheers and Meredith were again so close! Tess gave it the old college try as did our post entries McKenzie and Aegean. The weather cooperated only in the midnineties rather than higher so our judges were only parboiled rather than completely fried. Shade on the beach and lots of hydration were much appreciated. And our judges had high praise for Chief steward John Person and all the stewards that kept everything running like clockwork. Special thanks to our secretary, Patti Sondgroth, for keeping everything in order and to Cathy and Jerry Sayre for the site set up, dinner planning and the great lunches! Thanks to the village for again making the NCNC Water Test a success!

It s been raining NEWFS! Colleen and Lori have had a busy but very rewarding start to our new adventure as Foster & Adoption Coordinators. A big thank you goes to Hazel and June for all their help and encouragement. We are looking to expand our foster parent program so that we can rescue as many Newfs asneed to find their forever home. It is heartbreaking to us that our fabulous breed can end up in a shelter or worse, be abandoned and found as a stray. Can you open your heart and home to a Newf in need and foster a dog for 2-3 weeks? Do you know of anyone familiar with our lovely breed who would be interested in fostering a Newfoundland? We can tell you from experience it is not only rewarding to save a life but heartwarming to watch a dog blossom before your eyes because they know they are safe and loved. If you are interested in fostering, please feel free to contact Lori Cicchini (lacicchini@gmail.com, (916)932-3188 or Colleen Cahill (colleencahill1@me.com, (925)699-6346.
