Welcome to the Rock County 4-H Cat Project! This booklet has the information that you will need to be successful in the project. Be sure to become familiar with dates and deadlines that are required so you can enjoy your 4-H experience. Updates and reminders are sent via email. Be sure to let us know of your current email address. Current information is posted on our Facebook page at Rock County 4-H Cat Project. Cat Cash By helping out during the year you can earn cat cash which can then be spent at the annual auction. For the auction each family donates cat related items for the members to bid on. Receive $25 if you Help set up any cat show Help clean up after any cat show Give a cat related speech demonstration or speech (can be 4-H, school, or other activity) Help at any cat show food stand Attend a cat project meeting Receive $20 if you Complete the Project/Activity Award Form for the Cat Project Participate in any cat show Enter showmanship Earn a cat related badge from Scouts Receive $15 if you Help set up meeting Help clean up after meeting Enter poster, photography or drawing and painting contests Enter Decorate a Cage or Dress a Cat Volunteer to help clean cages during show Donate to the humane society or other rescue Volunteer at the humane society or other rescue Attend cat show other than 4-H show Attend any cat related activity Keep track of the cat cash you earned.

Showmanship Pre-Fair and Fair Cat Shows Judging based primarily on exhibitor Grade Groups: 3-5 6-8 9 & up Exhibitor must use cat under their care as of Jan 1 of current year 7-minute time limit of face to face judging Showmanship will be scored as follows: 40 points: Examination of cat by exhibitor 20 points: Knowledge of exhibitor/responding to questions 10 points: Grooming/presentation of exhibitor 10 points: Safety and proper handling of cat 20 points: Written test score Total score out of 100 points Poster or Display Pre-Fair and Fair Cat Shows Grade Groups: 3-5 6-8 9 & up Limit one entry per exhibitor Poster or Display must be 14 X22 Topic can be anything related to the cat project such as: care, training, health, nutrition, breed, color, anatomy, etc. All posters and displays must include on the back: exhibitor name, grade, and 4-H club Displays examples include: diorama, diagram, scrapbook, first aid kit, etc. Criteria used for judging: o Quality of information o Easily readable and Neatness o Originality

Cats may be household pets or purebred with/without papers. 2. All cats must be under the daily care and supervision of the exhibitor as of January 1 of the current year. 3. Kittens must be at least 4 months old to show. 4. All cats over 10 months of age will be considered an adult cat. 5. All cats to be exhibited must have a health check and the following vaccinations: Distemper-Rhino and Rabies. Vaccinations must have been administered within the past year or as prescribed by your veterinarian and at least three weeks before showing in the current exhibit year. A copy of the vaccination record with dates of vaccinations administered from a veterinarian must be included with entry. 6. Exhibitors may exhibit up to four cats but cannot be in the same lot number. 7. All cats must be brought in appropriate carriers. 8. All cats must be checked in by a veterinary professional. Any animal that is pregnant, nursing or exhibits signs of disease or infection will not be allowed to show and will be sent home. 9. Display cages will be provided for judging. All cats are to be taken home after the show. 10. It is highly recommended but not required that all cats are spayed or neutered. 11. Cats will be judged on grooming such as cleanliness, condition of coat, ears, and nails clipped. 12. Showmanship is judged face to face on cat knowledge, exhibitor presentation, grooming of cat and handling of cat. 13. All posters or displays for Class C must be 14x22 in size and deliver a clear message. Pencil and ballpoint may not be used. Exhibitors name, grade and club must be written on the back of the poster or display. Limit one entry per exhibitor. Members make sure to add cat project entries to your online fair entry to receive fair premiums.
