The deadline for submission of articles in the newsletter is the 28th of every month. The newsletter is always available for download from the website: www.wichitakennelclub.org Your brags or news items can be sent to: Leanne Chase 4620 Huckleberry Derby, KS 67037 316-788-7616 A Word from the President We continue to have successful informative General Meetings. Our last meeting on the 13 th of July was the puppy puzzle evaluation on six of Leanne Chase s Berger Picard puppies. Tiffany Hiebsch did the evaluation on the puppies with Leanne s help. There were five boys and one girl. This was a most informative meeting. Thanks to Tom Chase we now have updated Sunflower Cluster Contracts for our three Presidents to sign at the Cluster Meeting on July 26, 2015. I was able to secure a signed updated contract as well from the President of the Wichita Kennel Club, Inc. This particular contract is between only the Wichita Kennel Club, Inc. and the Wichita Dog Training Club, Inc. Kim Jenning chaired our annual Cluster meeting in Salina, KS on the 26 th of July, and everything that needed accomplished got accomplished. We will have the owner handler series again in 2016, and we will have a new event in that we will have a ring for 4 to 6 month old puppies. Pat Deshler graciously accepted to chair this event. And we voted to have our show in 2016 in two buildings. The obedience and over flow crating will be held in the AB (herding arena). And as mentioned below we now have updated Sunflower Cluster Agreements between all participating clubs. Tom has updated the PA1 and AB (herding) arena drawings, and they were approved at our Cluster Meeting. The drawings are very high quality. Our Chip Clinic is only about a month away and will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. on September 20, 2015. We are in the process of planning a Rally Match the morning of the Chip Clinic in conjunction with the Wichita Dog Training Club, Inc. More details to follow. Monica Monroe is the chair for the Match. Again, our general meetings are wonderful, and Joann Fletcher is doing a great job securing great programs. Page 2 of 6 A Word from the President Continued My compliments to Leanne Chase who continues to do a great job with our newsletter. And I would be remiss if I did not thank Patricia Holmes for the outstanding refreshments at our General Meetings. I have probably left out someone that has worked hard lately, and if so tell me, and I will slap my hand and get you acknowledged in the next notes. See you all at our meeting on July 13th. Page 3 of 6 Wichita Kennel Club General Meeting Minutes July 13, 2015 The meeting was called to order by President Mike Williams at 7:00 P.M. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of the June Meeting. Motion passed. Report of the Corresponding Secretary: Tom reported that the only thing received to date was junk mail. Report of the Recording Secretary: Monica is on vacation and not present tonight. Therefore, no report. Report of the Treasurer: Bev is out of town and Mike said there had been no change since the June report. Committee reports: Art Show at the Dog Show: Pat reported that all art had been returned. There will not be an Art Show at the Dog Show at our 2016 Sunflower Cluster of Dog Shows. Fund Raising Committee: Nothing to report at this time. Meet the Breeds: Mike Williams indicated he will be contacting the Century II folks soon for a date and time for our 2016 event. Chip Clinic: Tom reported that our Chip Clinic will be held on September 20 th, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. The chips will be priced at $20.00 each. There will be lunch for the workers from 12:00 noon to 12:30 P.M. Mike Williams has contacted Dr. Kelly at Chisholm Trail Animal Hospital for one of our vets, and he said he would know for sure on Teresa Burks sometime this next week. She might have a conflict with the State Fair of Kansas, as her daughter is showing a dog the day before and maybe on the 20 th. She is also in the process of having one of her dogs bred and may have to travel on the 20 th. Sunflower Cluster of Dog Shows: Our Cluster meeting will be held on July 26, 2015. All are invited, and you must RSVP to Kim Jenning one week prior to the meeting. The agenda is out, and if you have questions, please contact Kim Jenning. Mike Williams reported that we did receive the contract from the Kansas Pavilions, and as soon as the Cluster Meeting has been completed, we intend to put down the $3,000 down payment that is required, and it is our intention that all three Presidents will sign an updated Sunflower Cluster Agreement at the Cluster Meeting. Mike Williams also reported that he had received a signed contract between the Wichita Kennel Club and the Wichita Dog Training Club. The program tonight is the puppy puzzle evaluation process presented by Tiffany Hiebsch and Leanne Chase on Leanne s Berger Picard puppies. This was a most interesting program, and I think by the questions asked everyone learned something tonight. One of the hardest things a breeder has to do is to do a good thorough examination of the puppies by a third party. Again, this was a most informative program tonight. This is the kind of thing we are about, and it was excellent information. Many thanks to Tiffany Hiebsch for coming out tonight to evaluate these fine puppies. Leanne indicated that all of these puppies are sold. Unfinished Business none New Business none A motion was made and seconded that we adjourn the meeting. The motion passed. Respectfully submitted, Mike Williams President

Page 4 of 6 WANTED: Puppy Raisers KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. Our puppy raisers come from all walks and all ages of life. It takes a lot of passion, desire and commitment to raise one of KSDS adorable puppies into a successful assistance dog. For our teen puppy raisers (13+), puppy raising can be a great way to give back to the community. Puppy raising for these young scholars can turn into a wonderful 4-H, Boy Scout, Girl Scout or FFA project. What better way to socialize our young puppies than by taking them to events sponsored by these organizations! Kennel clubs have classes, members and facilities to help provide the perfect environment to expose our puppies to other dogs and people. If you are a member of any of these organizations and would like a presentation about KSDS, please contact KSDS at (ksds@ksds.org) or (785) 325-2256. Puppy raising is not just for high school students with supportive families. This program is well suited for retirees, empty nesters, office professionals, veterinarians, and teachers. Our Puppy Raisers receive a $100 reimbursement for Spay & Neuter fees. The puppy will be provided free dog food by Hill s Science Diet and also receive HeartGard until called back for training. For more information about our puppy raising program, contact Jenna Petesch at (jpetesch@ksds.org) or (785)325-2256 ext. 114. Look for us at the Kansas State Fair, September 11-20, 2015 at booth #13 in the Pride of Kansas building. Like us on Facebook KSDS, Inc. and watch for the 2015 Kansas State Fair Event notification. If you would like to get our free Newsletter, please call (785) 325-2256 or email (mroop@ksds.org). Please indicate if you would like digital, printed version or both and include your complete mailing address. KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. 120 West 7th Street, Washington, KS 66968 (785) 325-2256 WKC FUND RAISING COMMITTEE The 2015 fund raising held a successful raffle and silent auction. The combined raised total was $1,532. Much of what was auctioned was gathered by Jackie Storrer from garage and estate sales. While the combing of these sales is Jackie s hobby, she has paid for most of the items she provided by herself. If you would like to contribute to the fund raising committee and help Jackie purchase items, please contact Jackie at 722-9575 or e-mail her at jstorrer@cox.net We d like to make the 2016 silent auction the best one yet.

Page 5 of 6 AKC Updates for Conformation Clubs Event Operation is committed to providing clubs and exhibitors regular communication regarding new, changed, and clarified rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Several items at the July 2015 Board meeting were approved that have an impact on clubs, and we wanted to take this opportunity to notify and explain them to you. AKC National Owner-Handled Series updates (effective October 8, 2015) Ribbon Colors In order to bring consistency to this program, the following required ribbon colors have been adopted for NOHS events: NOHS Best of Breed/Variety Maroon NOHS Group 1 Neon Pink NOHS Group 2 Neon Green NOHS Group 3 Teal NOHS Group 4 Cream NOHS Best in Show Turquoise NOHS Reserve Best in Show Light Green Judges Guidelines A single judge should not be used to do all the NOHS Groups & Best in Show A judge should not be assigned the NOHS Group prior to judging that same group for the all-breed show. Junior Showmanship Master Class Criteria (effective October 7, 2015) The eligibility criteria for the Masters Class will be earning 10 Best Junior Handler awards with competition. The calendar for this class remains consistent with the eligibility dates for the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. As a reminder, all clubs offering Junior Showmanship competition must offer the Master Class. Apprentice Judge Training The Board of Directors at its June 2015 meeting adopted a new Conformation Judging Approval Process to be effective September 1, 2015. Included in the Board s new policy is the ability for prospective breed judges to gain education by completing Apprentice Training experiences in that breed. Apprentice Trainings involve the prospective breed judge observing the judging from inside of the ring. The Mentor and Apprentice may discretely discuss the entry during the judging. Prospective judges who wish to complete Apprentice Training experiences are required to schedule and receive consent from the Show Chairman and Mentor Judge prior to the opening of the show. There are additional requirements before an experience may be completed or who may serve as a mentor judge which are not the responsibility of the Chair to confirm have been met. AKC Judging Operations will confirm all requirements have been met before educational credit is assigned for a completed experience. No Apprentice Trainings may be scheduled prior to September 1, 2015. 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition Professional Handler Definition (effective October 1, 2015) In order to make the definition of professional handler consistent with the AKC NOHS definition the following change was approved: Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. Dogs may not be exhibited by current assistants and household members of a professional handler. 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition Show Report (reminder) We have situations where a Report of Open Show or 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy form is not submitted when there are no entries for the competition. This causes a delay in results processing as we have to contact the club to determine the status of the report. When a club schedules a 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy competition, a Report of Open Show or 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy form must be submitted as part of results processing even when there were no entries in the competition.
