The LARGEST JUNIOR POULTRY SHOW OF THE YEAR FOR OUR MEMBERS! I hope our members are already thinking about and planning to attend the YEPA Extravaganza and the Dixie Classic in Knoxville, TN this coming December. I can t believe the plans the Dixie Classic group has in store for all junior exhibitors. They are really thinking outside the box to make this a show not to miss. The junior coordinator has already been hard at work this spring and summer. There will be special contests this year and we will be announcing them soon so watch your emails from YEPA as well as on the Tennessee Valley Poultry Club and the YEPA website and facebook pages. Just to give you a small hint. The Dixie Classic crew has worked out a program whereby each year a King and Queen of the Dixie Classic will be chosen. The awards and plans for this event are humungous. They are also planning on a home baked cookie contest that all juniors can enter. I hope they ask me to be one of the judges if they have tasters. They will also have tables set up for our juniors to make items that they can take home. YEPA and the TENNESSEE VALLEY POULTRY CLUB are partners when it comes to putting on a special show for the juniors. This show group is very focused on our junior exhibitors and consider it one of the most important parts of showing at the Dixie Classic. They realize that you, the junior exhibitor is the future of the poultry hobby. Their goal and the goal of YEPA is to make this show one of the most exciting fun trips a junior can have as you move into adulthood in the poultry hobby. As I m sure you must know by now there are several contests that you can enter for our EXTRVA- GANZA. They have been posted on our FB page and on our website. PLUS as of today I have tied up some seminars that you should seriously consider attending, even if they aren t about your specific breeds. They will help expand your education regarding breeds and the APA & ABA standards for these breeds. Please check our website for information about our contests, seminars, motel rooms and driving directions. IF you are attending the Ohio National the TVPC will have a table set up to take entry forms for the EXTRAVAGANZA & the Dixie Classic. DON T FORGET TO SIGN IN AT THE YEPA TABLE. We have a great door prize awaiting you to sign in and get your ticket for the drawing.

Dear Youth Members: SHOWMANSHIP ADVICE FROM A JUDGE When you are competing in showmanship, be aware that it is impossible for you to tell the judge "too much". We want to know everything you can tell us about your bird. Another point, when reciting the parts of your bird, point exactly to the area/part you say at the same time you are naming them. Don't just spew out words/terms and point here and there, be specific. The judge needs to know that you are labeling the correct part (s) at the correct time. Learn to properly pose your bird on the table and in a cage. Learn how to evaluate your bird when examining it the same way a judge would when he is judging your bird in its class. Starting at the head and working your way down to the toenails. Be able to explain what you are evaluating and what you are finding during this evaluation. (example: eye color needs improvement, width of head is good or needs work, length of back is good or poor. All of this is specifically about the breed you are using in showmanship for this demonstration. Perhaps this is some food for thought at all levels of competition. Paul Kroll, (New York) APA-ABA General License Judge.
