Meeting Minutes September 9, 2017 Meeting at the Fredericksburg Library, England Run Branch Begin at: 10:10 a.m. Minutes approved as published in the September Lowdown. President s Report: Richard wished everyone success and good luck at our Fall Specialty. Committee Reports Show Chairman: Melinda Brown reported our start time for the Specialty would be approximately 10 a.m. We will have clean up box, wicket, cover for stewards table on hand. We will also have a preprinted whiteboard for the Specialty and Obedience/Rally Trial. Our entry is a total of 121 for Specialty, 11 for obedience, 12 for Rally. Trophy: Everything is ready. Hospitality: Devon Merritt arranged a room for the Obedience/Rally Judge. Grounds- None Photographer- contacted Nationals Photographer, photos to be taken on Sunday. Food-Ringside refreshments- we will have a candy assortment available at the stewards table. Raffle: Fill crate and club Raffle- many items brought to the meeting, others bringing items to the show site. Kevin and Isabelle will also be selling 50/50 tickets. Old Spring Specialty- We still have not heard back from Katie with Mattaponi KC, but will contact her again. Will discuss further at the November meeting. New BHCA Ballot- Club submitted David Miller for Judge and Amanda Ballew for Sweeps. Match show- Considering doing a Match after judging at spring Specialty. Rapscallions Earn New Titles at Nationals Rapscallion s Calculated Risk, RN, CGCA (Strummer) earned his Trick Dog Intermediate (TKI), Trick Dog Advanced (TKA) titles, and one leg in Beginner Novice Obedience during Nationals week in Lancaster, PA. Strummer is trained and loved by Gloria McCrave. Photo by Melissa Jokela Strummer competes for a Q (qualifying score) in his second-ever agility trial at the Basset Hound Club of America s 2017 Nationals held in Lancaster, PA from September 30 - October 6. Rapscallion s Out o Chasan s Bizness (Oliver) earned his first Q towards his Rally Novice title September 29 at the Wilmington Kennel Club under Judge Sandi Atkinson. He earned his second Q at the Pilgrim Basset Hound Club rally trial October 2 under Judge Debra Barrows. He earned his Rally Novice title October 3 at the BHCA Nationals trial under Judge Patricia Hess. Padding his resume a bit, Oliver went on to earn an extra Q and a first place score in his Rally Novice A class. Oliver is owned and loved by Barb Martin, Cynthia Miller, and Chris Irvin. Rapscallion s Horizontal Merger (Benny) improved steadily as Nationals week wore on. At the PBHC specialty under Judge Sylvie McGee, Benny was fourth in his open class on September 30. The next day, at the Valley Forge BHC specialty he improved to second in his open class under Judge Melodye Fair. On Monday, October 2 at the Berkshire Valley BHC specialty, Benny won his open class under Judge Edna Martin. For Nationals, under Judge Marjorie Wickerd, Benny placed third in his open class for a complete set of ribbons from 1st through 4th. Prior to his nationals week experience, Benny had only been in the ring five times, and nationals was the first time he d been shown by his breeder, Cynthia Miller. Benny is owned and loved by Sharon Wilder. All of these talented boys were bred by Cynthia Miller and Peggy O Brien out of CH Rapscallion s Nacho Business o Bridi and CH Chasan s Talk is Cheap. It s a Family Affair PBHC members have multiple placements during nationals week CH Barnyard St Lo Make It So was 4th in the huge Veteran Bitch Class at the Nationals under Judge Brian Pechtold. KDog is owned by Tracy Holmes, Kevin Merritt, Pat Harder, Max Harder,and Barbara Mercer. CH Saranade s Long Cool Woman in A Black Dress was Third in the BROOD Bitch class at the Nationals under Judge Brian Pechtold. Patty was also AOM at the Potomac Basset Hound Club Specialty under Judge Sylvie McGee. Patty is owned by Tracy Holmes and Melinda Brown and Handled by Madeline Wilson. Ramsey was sadly excused from the Amateur Owner Handler Class, but he had a great time! Saranade s Take It To The Limit @StLo was RWD at the Susquehanna Basset Hound Club Specialty under Judge Dr Norbert Dee Theo is owned and bred by Kevin Merritt, Isabelle Merritt, Tracy Holmes, and Melinda Brown. The Old Man s Still Got It At nine years of age GCHB Rum Bridge s Saranade to the Sea (Calvin) was Select Dog at the Susquehanna Basset Hound Club Specialty Show on Aug 25th under Judge Joan Goldstein. Calvin was also Best Veteran in Sweeps under Judge Barbara Henderson. Many thanks to Cathy Thistle for a superb handling job. Calvin was Best Veteran in Sweeps at the Berkshire Valley Basset Hound Club Specialty on Oct 2nd under Judge Cookie Martin-Fannar. Many thanks to Kevin Merrit for his superb handling at Nationals. Watch out 007, the Moonraiders are here! Obie s Bassets welcomed a litter of ten ( six girls, four boys) on October 12 out of CH Obie-N-Chasan s White Lightning (Moon) and CH Rapscallion s Corporate Raider o Chasan (Raider). Moon went into whelp at 6 a.m. and by 12:30 p.m. that same day she had whelped 11 puppies on her own. One was stillborn and despite a concerted effort, she never took a single breath.
