NSW STUD SERVICES August 2016. STUD Service figures released by GRNSW for the month of August this year, showed a total of 22 services for the month from 20 Individual sires. It must be remembered that this was during the tumultuous period of the on then off ban on greyhound racing in NSW. The figures are sure to pick up in the next few months as the increased confidence breeders showed after the lifting of the ban, boosted numbers and just as well as there looks certain to be a shortage of greyhounds in both NSW and Victoria towards the end of next year. Only three sires registered multiple services in NSW in August, Buck Fever with four, then Fabregas and Premier Fantasy*, with two each. Looking at the list of sires with multiple services in NSW during the eight months to the end of August, the list is as follows: 38 Dyna Double One. 27 Barcia Bale. 23 Fabregas. 18 Magic Sprite. 17 Fernando Bale. 11 Don t Knocka Him. 10 Kinloch Brae* 9 Buck Fever and El Grand Senor. 8 Dyna Villa and My Bro Fabio. 7 Cosmic Rumble and Swift Fancy. 5 Bekim Bale, Collision and Spring Gun. 4 Banjo Boy, Hay Fergus, KC And All*, Keybow, Kiowa Producer*, Kiowa Mon Manny*, Oaks Road, Superman and Where s Pedro. 3 Awesome Project, Brett Lee, Jarvis Bale, Lochinvar Marlow and Premier Fantasy*. 2 Black Magic Opal, Cape Hawke, Irinca Luca, Paradise Madison*, Shakey Jakey, Shoulders, Smooth Fancy, Stagger and Taylors Sky*. Last Thursday s scheduled meeting at Maitland was also transferred to Gosford after Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) inspected the Maitland track and found the racing surface to be unsafe for racing. GRNSW track maintenance staff are continuing to work with the Greyhound Breeders Owners and Trainers Association to undertake remedial work of the Maitland racing surface and ensure it is brought up to an appropriate and safe standard before racing can resume at the track. Nominations for the transferred Gosford meeting will close at 9am on Tuesday, January 3. GREYHOUND OF THE WEEK This week s Greyhound of the week is: ZIPPING BRUISER Pic Paul Munt DIDN T take long to decide on this week s Greyhound of the week. Zipping Bruiser (April 2014 Don t Knocka Him x Tricky Gypsy), whose dam is by Bit Chili x Sirocco Lass (Bond x Many Tricks) wrote his name into the record books last Thursday night when he stormed home to win the 2016 Group 1 Hobart Thousand. He has now raced 30 times for 11 wins and nine placings, earning more than $100,000 in stakes. He has won four times over 520 metres at Wentworth Park (29.72), twice over 461 metres at Hobart (25.98) and also over 500 metres at Bendigo (28.33), 450 metres at Warrnambool (25.46), 515 at Gosford (29.86), 535 metres at Richmond (30.75) and 450 metres at Maitland (25.30). Read more about his amazing Hobart Thousand win in the Tasracing - Neil Brown review of the race, following. I can t believe I ve just trained a Group 1 winner, Lanigan said. Zipping Bruiser ($13.50) began well from box six to settle third behind the favourite, El Grand Amigo that began brilliantly from box one to share the lead with another interstate invader American Monster. The race changed complexion when their field wheeled for home when American Monster forged to the lead with the Ted Medhurst-trained Chief Jetpilot motoring home along the rails and looking the likely winner. But he had no answer to Zipping Bruiser s powerful finishing burst that gave him a three-quartersof-a-length margin on the line over Chief Jetpilot ($10) with the same margin to American Monster ($3.70). Zipping Bruiser had made it four starts for four wins for the 24-year-old Swan Hill trainer who only took up a license in September. Formerly trained in New South Wales by Melbourne Cup winning mentor Jason MacKay the speedster had won seven races for MacKay after he commenced racing in February this year with a debut win at Maitland. Since then he won at Richmond, Gosford and four times at Wentworth Park with a best effort a 29.77 win in April. Lanigan has four dogs in work including litter mates of Zipping Bruiser. Lanigan finished third in the Group 3 Gawler Cup with Bruiser s brother Zipping Quinsee in October. Lanigan is a fourth-generation greyhound trainer with his biggest influence his father Gerald. He told Sky channels Peter Staples after the win he promised his work place in Swan Hill he would be back on Friday for work but was reconsidering that offer after the win and subsequent celebrations. He credits much of his success to Zipping Bruiser s former trainer, Jason Mackay. We bought Zipping Bruiser from the Hallinan family for a very reasonable price, and Jason was the first person to message me after the dog won his (Hobart Thousand) heat. Continued Page 12-11 -

HOBART 1000 Continued. I m on the phone to him for advice nearly every day, and I ve developed a really good relationship with him and Cam Hallinan. Zipping Bruiser is raced by the Lanigan Bruiser Syndicate and trained by Matthew Lanigan at Swan Hill, he is a Black dog whelped April 2014 by Don t Knocka Him from Tricky Gypsy (Bit Chili x Sirocco Lass). He has won 11 and finished a place nine times from his 30 starts and with the $74,960 first prize for the Hobart 1000 it took his current stake earnings to $104,204. The Hobart 1000 is the oldest feature race final in Australia it was first run as the Hobart Cup at the old TCA circuit in 1935. The race first became known as the Hobart 1000 in 1939, it reverted back to the Hobart Cup for two years in 1942 then was not held during the war years of 1944-45 and when the race recommended in 1946 it was again known as the Hobart 1000. The most notable effort in the history of the Hobart Thousand must be the training feat of Hilda Williamson of Beaconsfield. She won back-to-back Thousands in 1961/62 with her grand bitch Ophir Doll, and just for good measure made it a hat trick with Ophir Gold in 1963. Another notable feat was that of Beaut Dina. She won the event run in 1976 and was the dam of Scene Control, which won the last ever Hobart Thousand run at the T.C.A. in 1980. Both were owned and trained by Ted and Laurie Rigby of Evandale. Arguments will always rage over the greatest dogs to win the Thousand. The best interstate chasers to gain victory would have to be Rookie Rebel (1958), Benjamin John (1969), (which ran down the immortal Zoom Top), Black Aztec (1981), and the freak Brother Fox (1985). Amongst the very best of the locals to salute would have to be Ophir Doll (1961/62), along with Royal Griffin (1978), True Vintage (1988), Bomber s a Flyer (1996), Top Shiraz (2000) (who held off the speedster Brett Lee) and Black Caleb (2002) who defeated Melbourne Cup winner Classic Capri. Race record over the 457m trip - 2005 winner Ralph The Mouth 25.60. In 2011 the winner was Dyna Tron who was later judged the AGRA & Victorian Greyhound of the Year, he narrowly beat local champ Rewind.. Let us look at the many champions that have tasted victory in the time-honored event. It is certainly an impressive list of past winners. 1935 Elwick Boy 1936 Miafort 1937 Loch Maree 1938 On Par 1939 Mr Whackles 1940 Silver Rover 1941 Cavalry 1942 My Kenya 1943 Askalon, 1944 "Not Held" 1945 "Not Held" 1946 Ebon's Own 1947 Young Sign 1948 Hero Minda 1949 Erin's Ace 1950 Neat Brandy 1951 Pleasant Foam 1952 Baron Dhu 1953 The Mudlark 1954 Pasha Chief 1955 Minda Go 1956 Baron Wooera 1957 Rising Ace 1958 Rookie Rebel 1959 Peter's Treasure 1960 Bow Rock 1961 Ophir Doll 1962 Ophir Doll 1963 Ophir Gold 1964 Sandy Stone 1965 Fairbairn Lady 1966 Ipswich Low 1967 Fiery Bob 1968 Sue Narila 1969 Benjamin John 1970 Plunder Road 1971Trion Scout 1972 Beau Palomino 1973 Sue's A Credit 1974 Jamin John 1975 Snowsim 1976 Beaut Dina 1977 Check Vista 1978 Royal Griffin 1979 Astradome Lad 1980 Scene Control 1981 Black Aztec 1982 Kudaleen 1983 Stony Point 1984 Double Time 1985 Brother Fox 1986 Solitary Simon 1987 White Gigolo 1988 True Vintage 1989 Scott James 1990 Bacchant 1990 Shantytown 1991 Jenny's Legacy 1992 Bomber Gleeson 1993 Extra's Boy 1994 Storm Hero 1995 Clint's Pirate 1996 Bomber's A Flyer 1997 Shantung Tiger 1998 Mirren Bale 1999 Latest Lad 2000 Top Shiraz 2001 Black Caleb 2002 Star Witch 2003 Nobody Knew 2004 Regent Thunder 2005 Ralph The Mouth 2006 Superman 2007 Train A Journey 2008 Little Spaniard 2009 Prankster 2010 Octane Show 2011 Dyna Tron 2012 Blackall s Boss 2013 Paw Licking 2014 Above All 2015 Unlawful Entry Neil Brown AGRA Publicity Officer Tel: 03 97691234 Mob: 0423 129 950 nbrown@agra.com Happy owner-trainer Matthew Lanigan with Zipping Bruiser after his Hobart 1000 win - 12 -

Group 1 number three for Dundee Osprey in Sale Cup By GRV Website Dundee Osprey ($2.20) (Geoff Scott-Smith) became the only greyhound currently racing with three Group 1 wins to his name when he took out last Monday night s Group 1 Sale Cup (650m) on the opening night of greyhound racing s brand new $800,000 Gippsland Carnival. Having won two Group 1s as a sprinter, including the prestigious Topgun at The Meadows, Dundee Osprey showed his class and versatility with an easy win by four lengths over Chrichton Bale ($13.60) (Darren Fisher) and Aston Harvey ($30.80) (Eddie Lieshout). He has really exceeded my expectations, Scott- Smith said after the win. It s always nerve-wracking being in big races like this, but it s also very rewarding. The Pakenham south trainer will now decide whether to continue racing Dundee Osprey over longer distances or whether to drop him back to the sprint. I m in no real hurry to make a decision, but I ll see how he pulls up after tonight. Sometimes he can pull up a bit flat because he tries so hard, so we ll just wait and see. Dundee Osprey is now a clear ladder leader regarding who will be crowned the Gippsland Carnival champion stayer, which incorporates supporting distance races on the nights of the Warragul Cup (January 28), Cranbourne Cup (February 11) and the Traralgon Cup (March 25). The Gippsland Carnival is fantastic. It s very innovative and it feels like it is getting the local community involved in greyhound racing, Scott-Smith said. Earlier in the night Aston Bolero (Jason Thompson) won the Gippsland Sprint Launch, which was the first leg of the Gippsland Carnival sprint series. He s a tough dog and he loves this track, Thompson said after the race. Going into the race I thought it was so even, and I thought it would be a matter of which dog got the start right. Luckily for me it was Aston Bolero. I ll continue to enter him for the next three sprint legs of the Gippsland Carnival. The staying and sprint streams of the carnival boast $35,000 in bonus prize money for the best performed greyhounds. - 14 - Once again, the Sale Greyhound Racing Club was well supported by local and surrounding communities with a large crowd in attendance. After the placed runners, the field finished in the following order 4th Zipping Kane ($6.70), 5th Dewana Dimie ($24.10), 6th Ring The Bell ($4.50) 7th Aeroplane Tommy ($9.80) and Brolly Bale ($9.80). Dundee Osprey is raced and trained by Geoff Scott-Smith he is a Black dog whelped December 2013 by Fabregas from Dundee Rose (Where s Pedro x Cora Bale). Dundee Osprey has won 17 of his 41 starts and has been placed on 12 occasions after the first prize of $75,000 for the Sale Cup it took his current stake earnings to $451,975. The seemingly bold move in 2001 to run the Sale Cup over the 630m journey, with a first prize of $20,000, produced an outstanding result with brilliant front running stayer, Bentley Babe, etching her name on the Cup Honour role. Again in 2003 a major track restructure unveiled a brand-new circuit on April 10th extensive work had been carried out after it closed in January. Under the guidance of track designer Brian Barrington Sale had an extreme makeover, with the new distances becoming 440, 520 and 650 metres. The track was also widened to 7 metres, with both straights being realigned. The Cup in 2010 became the richest country cup in Australia with a first prize of $50,000 and in 2011 it maintained its Group 1 status lifting the first prize to $75,000 which will be maintained in the future. REMOTE CONTROL COURSING LURE TRAX 4WD modified, Soft fat tyres, sound attracter, toy tow bar, 100kph This car is not a small cheapie, the car is TRAX 4WD Truck, however Graham Moscow from Greyhound Gear calls it car. The car must be safe and big enough so pups can't drag off to the dam. Theory is to course pups three to six months in a pack, a maximum of four to five times. Elite State lodge have coursed five litters this year and found this method works 100% Pups that chased in pack were all easy break ins. Wheeler kennels purchased a car and Brendan Wheeler said he was very happy with it. Longwood trainer Michael Barry has just ordered a car and Greyhound Gear are currently modifying it for him. Graham has a video of pups chasing the car, which he will email the link to, if you contact him. I have had a look at the video and it won t take long to convince you what a fantastic product this is, and just how keenly the pups chase after it. Looks certain to be a valuable tool for breeders to educate their young pups with, and from the look of it, it will make the breakers job much easier when the pups go to him, or if you are breaking your own pups in. Why not give Graham a call and have a chat with him about this amazing product. He can then answer any of your question, discuss pricing options, delivery time etc. Graham Moscow - 0412 243 655 Special Report www.greyhoundgear.com.au - 17 -
