MEMBER NEWS Club member Debi Lewis' friend Alysyn had her heart set on a bulldog puppy, but the deal fell through. So Alysyn turned that lemon into lemonade by adopting a rescue Bulldog from club member Sharon Treat. This Bulldog had successful surgery to repair her cherry eye and is now happily living with Alysyn, who has named her Hope. Dogs, too, love the taste of this squash plant, and it can even offer some health benefits (like relief from both diarrhea and constipation). But since dogs can't join you in sipping that spiced latte, we've found some ways you can help them enjoy the flavors of fall. (Note: Make sure you offer only canned pureed pumpkin, not canned pumpkin pie mix, which has additional sugars and spices.) Icy Pumpkin Bones This one's easy: Pumpkin + water + freezer. Voila! I wasn't able to pull the full recipe off the AKC website, but did find these 2 other frozen pumpkin treats for dogs. Frozen Pumpkin Dog Treats Ingredients: 1 cup plain yogurt 1 15.oz can pumpkin puree 1 t. honey 1 banana Directions: 1. In a blender, add banana and puree until smooth. 2. In a large bowl, add yogurt, pumpkin puree, mushed banana and honey. Stir until well combined. 3. Spoon mixture into ice cube trays. Once each mold is full, wrap in plastic wrap or place in a Ziploc bag to avoid a mess.
4. Place in freezer and let treats freeze completely overnight. OR Ingredients: 1 cup plain yogurt 1 cup pumpkin puree Directions: 1. Mix pumpkin and yogurt together in a bowl. 2. Portion evenly into ice cube trays. 3. Freeze for 24 hours. Caution Pumpkin is good for dogs, but use pure 100% pumpkin in cans and not the pumpkin pie filling cans.
Do you know how to make your own flea shampoo? It's EASY! One cup of Dawn liquid soap, one cup of vinegar and one quart of warm water! VOILA, flea shampoo! Massage in and let sit for five minutes and fleas fall right off! At our next meeting on Oct. 18th we need donations for Ways and Means, the wine raffle, and trophy money donations. This is our last meeting before our specialty show and we'll be discussing all the last minute things to do to be ready. Hope to see you there!!
