THE FRENCH BULLDOG CLUB OF QUEENSLAND 2 ND ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2014 FRENCH BULLDOG CRITIQUE I would like to begin with an overall impression of the Frenchies exhibited under me. I was very impressed! Heads have improved over the last few years and many were outstanding. With the youngsters, some were long backed, but do not be too concerned. Many youngsters do not develop the roach until later, at which time the length of the back shortens. Also, with a level topline the tail carriage tends to be too high. Of course the opposite can happen. The pup can have a well developed roach, then lose this roach (the back then lengthens), and at a later date this roach can return. So do not despair. A more worrying aspect is the poor fronts displayed by too many Frenchies. I was disappointed by the poor fronts displayed on some otherwise outstanding specimens. Most mouths were good some excellent with a slightly undershot mouth with incisors in a straight line. Those displaying a mouth that is too undershot tend to show teeth and tongue and this can narrow the dog s muzzle, so please pay attention to this problem. Having said all of this, I feel the breed is in good hands and will continue to improve. I was excited to see so many top quality Frenchies, and that started with the very first class of nine babies. The smile started on my face and lasted to the end of the show. Frenchies are my favourite breed of all.
