Chairs: Show chair: Laura van Dalen. Co-chairs: Jodi Martin and Julia Kuni. Show Secretary: Karen Arlin. Ground Chair: Neil Martin. Ground Co-Chair: Needed. Trophy Chairs: Jodi Martin and Flo Jones. Raffle/Auction chair: Dale Staples and Flo jones Hospitality chair: Julia Kuni. Co-chair: Lisa Bailey. Advertising chair: Jim Griffin. Catalog ads: Karen Arlin. Decorations: Needed. Judges Hospitality: Barry Staples. Stewards: Karen Arlin and Jim Griffin. Photographer: Jim Griffin. We have too many things to do before and during the show days and there are not enough people to get it all done. Even if you can help only a couple of hours, we welcome all helping hands. We are still looking for Grounds Co-Chairs: Work with Neil Martin to prepare, set up, clean up, and tear down site. We need several people to get it all done. Parking assistant: Work with Neil when exhibitors are arriving to the show site each morning (7-8:30 am). Hospitality Co-Chairs Assist Julia and Lisa in planning, set up, serving, and tear down for each of the hospitality events for exhibitors at show site both days. Catalog/Lunch/Match Sales - We need volunteers from 8:00 am to Noon each day to man the catalogs, lunch tickets, and match entries. Some prepaid, others cash sales. 5

Raffle Co-Chairs: We need a member or two to assist Dale and Flo throughout the day with the raffle. At least one person needs to stand by the raffle table at all times. You can volunteer for half day or for a couple of hours and still have time to enjoy the event and show your dogs the rest of the day. Ring Stewards: The show needs two stewards, one for every ring. If you want to be one of our stewards for a day or even half day, it would give some relief to Karen and Jim and allow them to have more time for their other assignments or enjoy the show. Decorations: We need a volunteer to make the place look welcoming and Labrador Related ; including decorating the building and rings, setting up the picture backdrop on Friday and tear down on Sunday afternoon after the show. As you can see, there are some members that are taking more than one assignment. If you think you can help out, please email me (laura@vandalenkennels.com) or call me at 770-330-8841 and let me know if you can volunteer for any of the assignments. Any help is appreciated and most assignments do not need previous experience, just the willingness to help the club. Thanks in advance! Trophy donations: There are still many classes left to sponsor, so if you want to make a donation please email Jodi Martin (chlabs01@gmail.com) or call her at 404-725-3011. Our goal is to offer prizes for 1 st 4 th for our 20 th anniversary show in all regular classes, which takes a huge toll in our budget. Thank you so much to all the members that have already signed up to help with this year s show. All together will make this one a show that we can all enjoy and remember for years to come. CANINE INFLUENZA IN GEORGIA Positive Canine Influenza Case in Georgia On Friday, May 15th the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory obtained its first positive case of Canine influenza in Georgia. The patient presented with coughing, fever, lethargy, anorexia and was up to date on DHLPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations. It was reported that the affected canine had recently been in contact with other dogs at a Metro-Atlanta boarding facility. The influenza A virus we detected will be further typed to determine whether it is the wellestablished canine influenza strain (H3N8) or the new H3N2 strain that has recently been reported. The typing results will be available by Wednesday May 20th. It is important to note that signs of Canine influenza virus infection are similar to those caused by more well-known pathogens of kennel cough and include cough, runny nose, fever, and lethargy. Because many viral and bacterial agents can cause canine respiratory disease, we recommend that dogs exhibiting upper respiratory illness should be tested for multiple agents in order to identify the exact cause. Our laboratory offers a canine respiratory PCR test panel, which includes tests for Influenza A (i.e., all type A influenza viruses including the old and new canine strains), Bordetella bronchiseptica, Mycoplasma spp, Canine adenovirus-2, Canine distemper, and Canine coronavirus. We also offer a feline respiratory PCR test panel, which includes: Feline herpesvirus, Chlamydophila felis, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Mycoplasma, Influenza A, and Feline calicivirus. Nasal or pharyngeal swabs are the samples of choice and should be placed in a sterile red-top tube with a few drops of sterile saline and shipped cold (ice packs) for priority overnight delivery. We can also test post-mortem respiratory tissues (lung and trachea). Samples can be submitted through our courier in the Greater Atlanta Area, or with our prepaid UPS shipping labels from anywhere. Recommended testing for suspicious cases: Canine Respiratory PCR Panel Includes: Bordetella, Mycoplasma, Canine Adenovirus, Influenza A (all subtypes), Canine Distemper, and Corona. Fees: In state $95, Out of state $118.75 Test Code: BCARESPPCR Turnaround time: 2 days Samples Accepted: Two Nasopharyngeal swabs should be placed in a sterile red-top tube with a few drops of sterile saline. Samples should shipped priority overnight with ice packs. Please call us at 706-542-5568 with any other questions, to request a shipping label, or visit us online at ugavetlab.org for additional information. 14
