Chatter was unique. She was a dog who could speak human language. Humans considered this very exciting apparently, considering all dogs could talk to each other. Whenever she wanted food, she just told her humans. Her owner s names were Jennie and Dylan. They also had two cats, whose names were Ginger and Misty. She was good friends with them. Her favorite things ever were going on walks and going to the Dog Park. Dylan, can we go on a walk? Chatter called through the house. Sure, Chatter, Dylan responded. Dylan clipped on Chatter s leash and walked out the door. Less than five minutes later, they met a new dog. This new dog s name was Goldie. Hi, Goldie, Chatter said, in dog language this time, since Goldie, and every other dog Chatter had met, couldn t speak human language. Dylan, can Goldie walk with us? Chatter pleaded. Dylan was best friends with Goldie s owner, Peter. Peter was always kind to Chatter, so she liked him. Dylan said they could walk to the park together. When they arrived, a dog that must have been a hundred feet taller than her (she wasn t very good at math), sauntered over and said, You re on my territory, you know. He growled and then leaped at her. Dylan dropped Chatter s leash in horror. Chatter dodged just in time as the massive mutt snapped at the air. Chatter came and whacked it with her paw. It yelped, but came charging at her. Suddenly, the huge pooch stopped short. A nice-looking man ran over and snatched up the dog s leash. I m terribly sorry, said the man. We are still working on Rex s behavior, he explained. Forgiving the man, who seemed stunned that Chatter could talk, Dylan, Chatter, Peter, and Goldie walked home. What a day, Chatter thought sleepily. Well, there will always be adventures tomorrow. By: Jacob Sherer
The Sand Maze By: Saule Even Hermie tapped his claw on the glass and sat back frustrated. The glass was terrible surface for a Hermit Crab. After many repeated days of tapping glass Hermie suddenly found a small tunnel in the sand! Hermie grabbed a tiny rock canteen and then plunged into the hole. His legs clacked on the hard granite as he escaped the glass prison. Unexpectedly, he was in an area covered by sand and rock. Hermie realized where he was The Sand Maze. He remembered what his mother crab had told him about The Sand Maze, that terrible beasts like seagulls and fish were out to get him. They had razor jaws and sharp beaks, and they would love nothing more than to make Hermie an afternoon snack. As the tide fell, the tunnel had opened and Hermie decided to go home! When Hermie got back though he found himself back in his glass home maybe the aquarium wasn t so bad.
