Aspen This poor girl is a heartbreaker. Obviously used for breeding, she arrived with a chewed off leash, emaciated and covered in what I assume was dried feces. Terrified in the shelter, she still took treats with very determined gentleness and craves the attention of people. She's a sweet, sweet dog who has been done a terrible disservice. Please help us right the wrong done to her! Aspen is currently in Kennel # 66.
Abbey Sweet Abbey is a lab mix brought in as an ICT (inner city transfer) which means another town brought her to Altus to be gassed. She is gentle and very lab-like in appearance, though she has shorter legs, and loves the attention of people. Abbey seems to like other dogs, as well. She is currently calling Kennel #34 home, but praying that will change soon.
Speedy is an owner surrender. It's not enough that his family saddled him with an unfortunate name, they had to up the ante by dumping him at a gassing facility like yesterday's broken toy. Speedy is an affectionate boy, young (perhaps a year old) and deserves so much better than what he's received in his short life! If you can help Speedy make a break from Kennel #38, you will have a loyal friend. Speedy
This handsome fellow is another who just screams HUG ME! He is a love bug, gentle, graceful, and has those beautiful, longing eyes. He's the whole package! Zephyr is in Kennel #52, but we hope that's very temporary! Zephyr
Buddy Buddy looks sad, and rightfully so. His owners left him at the shelter to die. Buddy is a lab/shepherd mix, very sweet, and just a year and a half old. He is neutered and UTD on his vax the total package! Buddy would love to have a reason to be happy again, and will if you can help him find a loving forever home and say goodbye to Kennel #41.
Ralston This little dock-tailed cutie is Ralston. He's an ICT and so in great danger. Ralston is a well-behaved heeler mix, very sweet, and very sad. He's one of my personal favorites. I know we've all heard the I wish I could take them all like so often it reverberates in our heads at night, but with Ralston, this is true. He's just a darling. If you help Ralston find his way out of Kennel #42 and into a loving home, he will not disappoint.
Pace Pace is a mixed-breed with the heart of a pure-bred. He's a regal little guy, very friendly, but concerned that he's in a gassing facility (and rightfully so!). As an ICT, Pace will at the top of the list of dogs to die if they don't find homes. He wants nothing more than a soft bed to snuggle on and a loving hand to pat him and reassure him that he's a good boy. Pace is currently in Kennel #73, and counting on us to change his address VERY soon!
Calm, sweet Bebba came in as a stray. She's a beautiful brindle hound mix with the signature sad hound eyes. She has no idea why she's sitting in a shelter instead of a warm home, but longs for a loving family and a soft bed. Please help us make that happen for Bebba. She currently calls Kennel #43 home, but deserves so much better! Bebba
Hudson Poor little Hudson pulls at our heartstrings. A catahoula mix, his normally bright, cheerful personality is overshadowed by his fear of the shelter. He's just a youngster, perhaps a year old, and wants out so badly! His beautiful markings and loving personality should gain him entry to a wonderful home where he will be appreciated and loved.
Truman Just look at this face! What is not to love? Truman is a pit/collie mix (we believe) and apparently inherited the pitty calmness along with the collie intelligence. He's not just another pretty face he's smart, loving, and fun, too. Truman wants to put his exile to Kennel #64 behind him as soon as he can!
Dorey is another beautiful, loving dog dumped by her owners at a gassing facility because they had more important things to deal with. Dorey is spaid, UTD on vax, loves everyone and wants to please. Most of all, she wants a forever home to call her own. Dorey
Bacchus came in with his best buddy in the world, Barnes. They are ICTs, brought to Altus from other communities to be killed. They are sweet, sweet dogs, and would ideally find a home together, but if that's not possible, they will do their best to understand. Bacchus
Little AJ is another owner surrender, terrified and wondering what she did that warranted being left to die in a gassing facility. She's a good girl, very friendly and sweet. AJ is just 3 years old, and is spayed and UTD on vetting. Please help her! AJ
Lawson This senior shar pei mix is also an owner surrender, cementing my conviction that some people simply have no conscience. Lawson is a gentle older fellow, dumped after years of devoted service to his undeserving people. Lawson needs a home to enjoy his golden years as a beloved, cherished member of the family.
Maeve is a gorgeous Maine Coon kitty with a personality to match her beauty. She is loving and warm. Maeve's hobbies include looking pretty, watching The Nature Channel, and snuggling beside a loving person. If you help Maeve find a home where she can do this, she would be purrfectly content. Maeve
Poor little Misty is so frightened at the shelter that she burrows behind her litter tray all day. She's a pretty little cat, with very defined tiger markings, and would love to come home with you!! Misty
Poor Brooklyn has not had an easy life, and it's not gotten any better since coming to a gassing facility. Brooklyn needs a home where he will be loved and appreciated. To help facilitate that, he comes with a sponsorship. Brooklyn
Tomasa is very concerned that as the plain Jane of the cats, she will be left behind to die. She's a very pretty deep black, with bright, intelligent eyes. She wants nothing more to be part of a loving home. Tomasa also comes with sponsorship. Tomasa
Poor Tyger is terrified at the shelter, and rarely leaves the security of her litter tray. She wants and deserves a loving home. With her big, bright eyes and beautiful markings, Tyger feels she would make a perfect window accent. Tyger comes with a sponsorship to help pay her vetting costs so she can start her new life. Tyger
Katie Katie is certain there must be a mistake. She knows she does not belong in a gassing shelter. With her long silky fur and bright golden eyes, we hope that she is soon proven correct! Katie is as sweet as she is beautiful.
The following critters were pulled, then abandoned by their rescues or pulled and placed into foster homes to save their lives. All dressed up and no place to go, they are currently in boarding or foster care, waiting for forever homes.
Darla This wonderful girl is very special, she came into the AC shelter with a large wound on her back, they are not sure of the cause was but it was obvious that someone did this to her. She was pulled from the shelter by a lovely woman who wanted to help Darla and give her a loving home. The home she was going to also had several dogs and cats once at the clinic Darla was temperament tested with cats (which she passed) and with another dog. Darla was fine with the tester dog until it jumped on her injured back; therefore, we decided it was in her best interests that she not be sent to her planned home. Darla s wound is healing a little more everyday and she is still being treated daily; however, the vet is not certain that her hair will ever grow back they do have hope however. This girl has obviously had a terrible life but still keeps a smile on her face.
Little Syoki has been in boarding since being abandoned by her rescue. She is a beautiful, serious dog, very affectionate, but does best as an only child. She loves people but does not care to share her attention with other animals. Syoki
Kylie Little Kylie is a victim of irresponsible pet owners. Dumped at the shelter and terrified there, she is spayed, loving, and well-behaved. Kylie is only 4 years old. She is currently in a foster home where she is a model companion. This is what her foster mom had to say about her: She is so very sweet! She is completely house trained, knows how to sit, stay, letdown, even shake! Looooves tennis balls and to be loved on. She really is a good girl and needs a really good home.
Kibbles Little Kibbles came into the shelter as a starving puppy fighting for life and has since blossomed into a beautiful dog. This sweet little girl is beloved by her foster family and the only reason they must give her up is because she is believed to be a pit mix, which is a no-no on the grounds of the Air Force Base there in Altus. She has been in her foster home for some time, but is still a puppy. She is housetrained and spayed.
Willie Willie has been abandoned not once, but twice. He was first left to be gassed at the shelter, then pulled by a rescue but abandoned again by them. His foster family has worked hard with him to help him overcome his fear issues that's a terrified Willie at the shelter in the small photo, and Willie recovering from skin issues a little later in the upper right photo. Willie is a VERY good boy, and quite clever. He is click trained, tidy and loving. He longs for a forever home. Willie would do best as an only child. His foster family loves him very much and are available to answer any questions about him.
This beautiful girl is Allie, she is very sweet and is loved by the members of the staff at the clinic where she is being boarded. Due to unforeseen circumstances, through no fault of her own, Allie did not go to her planned home after leaving the shelter. Allie was picked up by the AC when she was wandering the streets with another dog. She appears to be fond of other dogs but does not like cats. She is believed to be 1-2 years old, and has been spayed. Allie
This friendly girl was adored by the vet staff where she is boarded; they have had no problems with this girl whatsoever. Before coming into AC she had recently had pups but was somehow separated from them they were later found, one was adopted and the other is still looking for a forever home. Lucia is looking for a forever home. She is spayed and UTD. Lucia
Julia This beautiful, sweet girl is Julia and she is between 12 years old. She is believed to be a lab-pit mix. Julia was recently in foster care where she was a beloved member of the family. Due to unexpected events within their family they could no longer take care of Julia through no fault of her own. She is currently at Westside in boarding desperately waiting for a new home. Her foster family loved her and say she is a perfect little lady; she is housetrained and has lived inside with cats, dogs, and children.
Justice Justice is just a youngster, and the first pitty pulled from the Altus gassing facility after the ban was lifted. He is our poster child. He is gentle, likes other dogs and people, and wants only a chance at a life filled with love and happiness. And treats he loves treats. :)
