6335/1 SULIT Section A [20 marks] [Time Suggested : 30 minutes] Question 1 Read the following text and complete the given task. Most people like to eat chocolates for the smooth sensation that is left in the mouth. This is due to the cocoa butter in the chocolates. The consumption of chocolates worldwide is rather high. In some European countries such as Germany and Britain, consumption is somewhere around three kilogrammes per person per year. In Europe, the chocolate industry is worth billions. However, Malaysian chocolates lovers have of late been buying imported chocolates. They have the fortune now to taste the quality-imported variety of chocolates. Top brand chocolates from Switzerland, Belgium and Italy, like Lindt, Icam and Starbrock, have entered the Malaysian market. These brands are imported by the chocolate trading companies and distributed to supermarkets and chocolate shops. Chocolates should be stored in temperature between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. Usually, chocolate have a one-year span, after which the product will deteriorate. Once the glossy look has worn off and there are whitish marks on the chocolate, the chocolate has passed its prime. Generally, everything about chocolates is a matter of the individual s preference. There is no right or wrong, no best or worst chocolate. It is a matter of one s taste and how one likes his or her chocolates. The saying that one man s meat is another man s poison is very true of chocolates. Based on the information from the text, complete the graphic organizer below. Consists of 1 Reasons why people like it 2 Must be stored 5 Chocolate High consumption in 3 4 Popular brands in Malaysia 6 7 8 Choice of chocolate depends on 9 10 2

Question 2 Read the following text and complete the given task. Spiders are among the earliest creatures to live on land and are thought to have evolved about 400 million years ago, that is millions of years before dinosaurs. Worldwide, there are about 38,000 known species of spiders. Spiders are not insects but arachnids. They have eight legs unlike insects, which have six legs but like insects, they are invertebrates because they do not have backbones. All spiders moult at least once a year and when they reach adulthood. With female tarantulas, the process may continue for a lifetime, perhaps more than 20 years. Although most spiders feed mainly on insects or other tiny creatures, there are some species that prey on animals as big as mice and small birds. Spiders have pointed fangs with which they inject their prey with venom. This venom not only paralyses the prey but also breaks down the flesh of the prey into liquid. The spider then feeds by sucking up this liquid. Different spider spin different types of web to trap their prey. However, not all spiders catch prey by building sticky webs. Some, like wolf spiders, rely entirely on their speed and strength to overcome prey. The spitting spider spits poisonous glue on its prey to paralyse them. The largest spider in the world is believed to be the Goliath Spider. It is found in the coastal rainforest in northern South America. Its body can grow to nine centimeters in length and its leg span can be up to 28 centimeters. Some spiders are quite harmless and even beneficial as they help us rid of unwanted insects in our homes. However, there are some that cause harm to human beings. The most dangerous spiders in the world are thought to be the redback spiders, banana spiders, funnel-web spiders and recluse spiders. Their bites can cause inflammations and in some cases even bring about death. 3

Based on the information in the text, complete the grahic organizer below. Spid ers Number of known species 1 Physical Characteristics 2 3 Examples 4 5 6 How they feed 10 How they trap their prey 7 8 9 4
