2018 Specialty Critiques Sunshine Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club December 14, 2018 Orlando, FL Class Judge: Mr. Bill Shelton What a wonderful day I had judging the Sunshine specialty in Orlando, Florida. I m always impressed just how smoothly these great events come to fruition. We all know however this doesn t occur without committed people loyal to our special breed making them happen each year for us all too take part and appreciate. I thank all the PWCCA chapter clubs and their hardworking committees for offering us all these great events. But on this occasion thank you, Sunshine Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, a great show indeed. At the Sunshine specialty I had the cream of our present dogs being shown. I couldn t had been more honored. There were several I would be proud to have represent my opinion as being best at any specialty. However our system requires we have only one best and I was wowed by the entire competition. I always go away from a competition like this wishing I could have done more for all the beginning, fledgling participants with more education, camaraderie, or doing something to encourage the new participants and their future interest in this great breed of ours. At any rate thank you Sunshine for a day I won t soon forget. Until we all meet again happy trails PUPPY DOGS 6 TO 9 MONTHS (3 ENTERED, 0 ABSENT) 1. AUBREY S SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE AT STARFYRE (GChS. AKC and Legislative News Dear AKC Club Member, Action is the lifeblood of democracy, and without it, our freedoms will disappear. This is why the AKC Political Action Committee was established to take action in fighting back against the onslaught of legislation that restricts our freedoms to simply choose to own, breed or exhibit purebred dogs. In December, the AKC PAC will honor those clubs whose members go above and beyond by making a personal commitment to protect the future of dogs and our freedoms. The Top Five Clubs whose members support the AKC PAC will be recognized throughout the month of December, starting at the AKC National Championship and December AKC Delegates Meeting. If you haven t done so already, please consider a donation to the AKC PAC and encourage your fellow club members to do the same. Two categories of Top Five will be recognized: 1. The Top Five Clubs whose members donate the most to the AKC PAC 2018 Challenge by December 5.* 2. The Top Five Clubs who have the largest percentage of individual members who donated to the AKC PAC 2018 Challenge by December 5.* Make sure your club is in the Top Five by encouraging your members to give to the PAC today. It s easy to donate online. The AKC PAC is grateful to those clubs whose members understand the importance of having a funded and successful Political Action Committee a PAC that is dedicated to electing and keeping in office lawmakers who understand and support the American Kennel Club s position on canine issues. Thank you for your dedication and support as we fight to protect the dogs and sport we love. We hope to honor your club this December! Because people have taken allowances to the extreme, flying with animals such as pigs, ducks, snakes, spiders, etc., people who are in real need will now have to provide substantial documentation, in Delta s attempt to close the loop-hole. From now on, three completed forms will need to be provided at least 48 hours prior to your flight with an ESA: (1) a Veterinary Health Form; (2) a letter from a medical or mental health professional stating that you are under their care and need the ESA (valid for 1 year); and (3) a document confirming animal training, such as a graduation certificate from an obedience class. In spite of all that, final determination to allow the ESA on the flight will be up to the Delta ticket agent. January 2019 www.sunshinepwcc.com 9

Hi everyone. I wanted to reach out to everyone to let you know of a change in our Intake Coordinator position. Beth has decided to step down from the position to focus on other things. We are so thankful for her dedication to the Rescue and all that she has done. She has been an invaluable member of the SCR team. Although she will no longer be the Intake Coordinator, she will remain with the Rescue and help us in other ways. The official title will also be changing from Intake Coordinator to Assistant Coordinator for Intakes so that it aligns with our bylaws. I will be stepping down from my position as Volunteer Coordinator and assume the role of Assistant Coordinator for Intakes effective immediately. I have been with SCR for 4 years and have been active in several different roles. I look forward to working with all of you as we continue to make a difference in the lives of these 4 legged friends. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I owner handle our dogs and focus primarily on specialty shows, supported entries and periodic all breed shows. My treasured heart dog who I have had the honor to show for many years is MBISS Ch Peri Lane The Ghost Dancer. In 2016, I was thrilled to co-pilot the beautiful Patty, GrCh Double G s Catamarans That Kind Of Girl to Best of Breed at the PWCCA National Specialty Show. My prior sweepstakes assignments are as follows: judging a supported entry of the Garden State PWCC; Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of The Western Reserve, Columbia River Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, judging the Cardigan and Pembroke Sweepstakes in Brisbane, Australia, at their National in 2010 and the North Texas Pembroke Welsh Corgi Fanciers. My upcoming sweepstakes assignments are in 2013 at the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Potomac; in 2014 at the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of Greater Atlanta and in December of 2017, I judged sweepstakes for the Sunshine State PWCC and in 2018, Golden Gate and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Western Reserve are my final sweepstakes assignments. I am now a licensed judge in Pembrokes and also Cardigan Welsh Corgis, hoping to be licensed in other herding breeds shortly. I served as a Board Member for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America for six years; The Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club for many years, and my all breed club, The Waukesha Kennel Club where I currently serve as their President for the last four years. Kandy Boll, (Corgard) Future Assignments: 1. March 14, 2019 Ohio Valley, Breed 2. October 2, 2020 PWCCA National Specialty, Bitches I purchased my first Pembroke in the late 70 s from a backyard breeder while I was showing quarter horses. She was picked from a pack of Pembrokes in a horse stall, as they say we ve come a long way baby. She was certainly not show quality but a great ambassador to introduce me to this wonderful breed. In the years since my little barn dog, I ve bred over 70 AKC champions, 3 MACH s and numerous obedience dogs with titles. Dogs that I have bred/owned have twice went Best puppy, RWD at the nation and Best in Sweeps, and other specialty winners. I have judged multiple supported entry sweepstakes and affiliate club sweeps. In the past have done sweeps at Western Reserve (twice) Cascade, Gaitway. I did the Gaitway specialty in 2018, scheduled to do the Ohio Valley specialty March of 2019, a cardigan sweeps at their specialty in Oct 2019 and the National Specialty (bitches) in 2020. Gayle Garvin, (Garvin) Future Assignments: 1. February 23, 2019 - Greater Houston PWCF, Breed 2. April 16, 2020 PWCC Potomac, Bitches. When I was asked to send a short Bio of my years involved with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, I thought how does one shorten close to 50 years of one s life. We acquired our first Pembroke in 1970. We added the Cardigan Welsh Corgi twelve years later. I have owned, bred, exhibited both Corgi breeds my whole mature life. I have always shown my own dogs. I have always loved showing my own dogs. Our Corgis have won BOB at the Pembroke National and the Cardigan National. I have enjoyed exhibiting at Both Specialties and All Breed shows. My most gratifying take away from my years in dogs, has been the people I have met that shared the same interest as myself and the friendships I have made. I began judging Pembroke and Cardigans plus Junior Showmanship in 1990/91 ( I am approved to also judge Australian Shepherds, Shetland Sheepdogs) I have been invited to judge many regional specialties and supported entries. I have been on the judging panel for the PWCCA National Specialty twice. In 2003 I judged Dogs and Best of Breed. In 2016 I judged Bitches. I was on the judging panel for the CWCCA in 2002 judging bitches. I will be judging the CWCCA National in 2020 again and the assignment includes Dogs, Bitches, and BOB. I have judged in New Zealand (the last National that was held there) I have judged the Queensland Specialty held in Brisbane Australia, I recently returned from Australia where I judged the Welsh Corgi Club of Victoria s Specialty in Melbourne, Australia. It has been very exciting for me as a breeder judge to have some of the very best Corgis in both breeds shown to me by their breeders, owners, handlers. I always mention, having quality dogs to judge helps a judge keep a good eye I still after all these years get very excited when I see that special one enter and go around the ring. I have been a member of PWCCA since 1981 and served on Board of Directors. I am an honorary member of the Jefferson City MO KC. I am a founding member of the Gaitway Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of Greater St. Louis. Thank you for your consideration. Betsey Orman, (Bramblyhedge) Future Assignments: 1. February 15, 2019 - PWCC Southern California, Breed I met my first Pembrokes while showing Hunter/Jumpers. After finishing my first champion, I bred my first litter in the late 80s. That litter contained my first homebred Champion, who won large classes at both the National & Lakeshore Specialties. Yep, hooked. Over the years I ve bred multiple Champions, most of whom have achieved memorable wins at the National & Regional Specialties and AB shows, including Groups from the classes - always breeder owner handled. I ve been honored with sweepstakes assignments for Clubs in Canada, America and the UK. Now an approved AKC judge, I ve enjoyed judging Supported Entries and Specialties in America & abroad. Vince Savioli, (Aubrey) I acquired my first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1985 when I married my wife Cindy. I fell quickly in love with the breed. We then added Cardigans in 1996. I am a charter member of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden State. I am also a member of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America, Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America and Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club. I have judged specialties in the U.S. for the Gaitway PWCC and Palmetto PWCC as well as the PWCCA National (bitches) in 2018. Overseas, I have judged the Russian PWCC National, the Swedish/Norwegian Corgi Club National and the Estonia Corgi National Specialty. I am currently approved by the AKC to judge Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis. We have owned, bred and/or handled over 90 Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis to their AKC championships as well as 14 Grand champions plus 5 International champions. We have been honored to be the first to have bred and owned National Specialty winning Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Aubrey Corgis have won 35+ All Breed Best in Shows as well as 50+ Regional and 4 National Specialties. Having attended the Sunshine Specialty on many occasions, it would be an honor to judge your specialty. January 2019 www.sunshinepwcc.com 11
