Programs Programs Volunteer Services for Animals, Inc. Description Long-Term Success Examples of Long-Term Success Target Population 1 VSA's rescue program addresses the needs of homeless cats and kittens. It replaces fear with love. The program rescues, fosters, and finds quality, caring, and long-term homes. It responds to the needs of hundreds of unwanted kittens born in Collier County each year. VSA's programs offer them an opportunity to live. The rescue program works in conjunction with VSA's spay/neuter program which provides sterilization to all rescued animals before they are placed in homes. The reduction of pet homelessness and the well-being of owned pets. VSA focuses on spay and neuter education and financial assistance the reduction of the pet over population in Collier County. VSA's program is measured by the animal intake of surrendered and stray animals at Collier County Domestic Animals Services (DAS). While there are many agencies and factors that influence that measure, intake at DAS has decreased 34% since 2006. Adults Target Population 2 3

Impact Goals What are your organization's long-term strategic goals? A time when there will no more pet suffering and homelessness in Collier County. Strategies What are the major strategies you will do to accomplish your goals? 1. Reduction in the birth rate of unwanted and unplanned pets in Collier County with spay and neuter outreach and financial assistance programs2. Rescue of homeless cats and kittens with loving care in foster homes and adoption into loving, forever homes3. Reduction of pet diseases by providing low cost dog and cat vaccines and de-worming and flea medications at three public clinics per year4. Assisting financially stressed pet owners by providing pet food so they can keep their pets Capabilities What are your organization s capabilities for doing this? VSA has very low non-program overhead with no personnel or facility costs. All staff members are volunteers including fund raising staff. We work out of volunteer homes, and PetSmart where we are an adoption partner. Rescued pets are housed in volunteer foster homes. VSA's vaccination clinics are in Collier County parks. VSA has arrangements with four major retailers in Collier County for donation of pet food. Indicators What indicators do you use to measure progress? VSA focuses both on qualitative and quantitative indicators. These include: 1. Reduction of pet overpopulation-- The intake of surrendered and stray animals at Collier County's Domestic Animal Services. The calls we receive from pet owners wanting to surrender their cats and kittens directly to VSA. 2. Reduction of pet diseases--the outbreak and extent of pet communicable pet diseases in Collier County. 3. Reduction of pet hunger--reduction of pets surrendered because of pet owner inability to provide care. Progress What have and haven t you accomplished so far? While VSA is not the only group focusing on reducing the pet overpopulation in Collier County, intake at Collier County's Domestic Animal Services has declined by more than 30% since October 1, 2006. VSA's requests to accept kittens has also declined. 4
