Please join the OVDTC as we participate in the Wag & Walk for Alzheimer s! We will have a booth with information about our club and some goodies for our canine friends!
On October 3rd, members of the OVDTC attended ORVAL s annual Bark in the Park at Forsythe park in Monroe,. We set up a table with informational handouts on our many programs including: obedience classes, agility classes, therapy dog programs and community outreach plus we had some beautiful crate pads, fleece tugs, and harnesses available for people who donated to our cause. ANNUAL DUES ARE PAST DUE! Please support our club. Your dues help us to keep offering our classes and trials.
Diving into Dock Diving! Mona Fordham and Linda Booker took Quad and Ryder to a Dock Diving Clinic with Karen Kroyer (Canine Headquarters) in Hutto, TX. We had a blast and 2 very quiet pups for the ride home! Dock Diving is a relatively new sport and is fun and exciting for both the handler and dog. It is very high energy and the excitement of the crowd lends itself to the dogs performance! A little bit about DockDogs diciplines taken from the DockDogs website. Big Air is a long jump for dogs. The dog, which may be placed anywhere on the 40 dock, runs & jumps into the water after a throw toy. The distance is judged from the end of the dock to where the tail set of the dog breaks the water s surface. Extreme Vertical is a high jump for dogs. The dog starts off at the 20 mark on the dock & jumps up to grab a bumper toy extended out 8 from the end of the dock over the water. The starting height for Extreme Vertical is 4 6 & goes up in 2 increments as competition progresses. Speed Retrieve is a timed event. At the far end of the pool a bumper toy is suspended 2 above the water with a starting indicator light above it. The dog is then placed at the 20 white starting mark on the dock, when the light turns green the handler releases the dog, the time clock stops when the dog has pulled the toy from the Speed Retrieve bracket. We hope to bring the sport of Dock Diving to the Monroe/West Monroe area! The OVDTC may be able to host a Dock Diving event in conjunction with one of our summer agility trials in 2016.
