EASTERN NEWS by Robert A. Marshall 329 Newtown Road Wyckoff, New Jersey With the summer doldrums over show activity should pick up. The hot weather and prolonged drought in the East have made most of the outdoor shows a constant fight with dust and dried out stubble in place of g ra ss rings. None the less, with the same tenacity as their Scots, exhibitors have turned out in good numbers. Rockland County K.C. on September 5, with an entry of 16 for Frank Brumby. WD, Argyle Andrew RWD, this one a litter mate to RWD. WB a nd BOS to the Stalter's Barberry Knowe Spring Breeze (Ch. Barberry Knowe Blizzard - Barberry Knowe Breeze By), RWB Argyle Raggedy Anne. Blizzard BOB and GR III. Odds 'n Ends. Some books worth reading. (If you can find time between puppy feeding, cleaning, etc.) Dogs In My Life b y Louis L. Vine, (Appleton-Century-Crofts, Inc., pub. N.Y.). A veterinarian w rites of seventeen years of practice. Done with feeling and tenderness, outrage and an occasional b ite at some so called "dog lovers." The Thinking Dog's Man by Ted Patrick (Random House, pub.). A little sloppy and sometimes misinformed, but written from the heart, especially for Airedale people. Not a book but a must, if you can find a copy of the STCA 1929 Breed Book. (The AKC has one in its library.) W. L. McCandlish's critique of the S.T.C. of England show in 1928. Wit and a biting edge to the fadists of the breed. How true much of it is today. Why is it that people who come to buy pups always want a black one? They are surprised that Scots do come in an assortment of colors other than b lack, and then to really show their knowledge always say, "Oh yes, I've seen the white one in the Scotch ads!" Then the long explanations start all over again. Speaking of Vets, some day I'm going to write a tribute to our's Help with a whelping bitch at four in the morning; a house call when needed; that extra time to find out w hat REALLY caused the itch. Only a man that loves what he does can do it so well. A breeder so blessed can't help but raise sound and healthy pups. ANSTAMM'S TOP-NOTCH STUD FORCE Marlorain Kennels, Reg.
