Introduction, based at Kapunda in the lower mid-north of South Australia, was founded in 1994 as a Wiltshire Horn stud and began a Wiltipoll breeding program in 1996. With the phasing out of Wiltshire Horns from its program, the development of s wool shedding composites began in 2008. The breeds used in the development of s Wiltipolls and Composites to date have included White Dorper, Poll Dorset, White Suffolk and Perendale. Management & nutrition All lambs were bred at Kapunda, SA born predominantly in July/August, and weaned in early November, 2014. Seasonal conditions at Kapunda have been below average with the rams grown out on forage oats for the majority of the year and finished on clover & ryegrass for 6 weeks prior to the sale. Rams have been fed lupins at 200g/head per day for 3 weeks prior to sale. Many more of the composite rams have fully shed this year following the infusion of a greater percentage of Wiltipoll genetics. New Ultra White rams from WA will be introduced into the composite breeding program for the 2016 drop. It is hoped these rams will arrive in time to be on display at the sale. Flock health status Lambs were vaccinated with 3:1 with selenium and Gudair at marking in August 2014 with a vaccination and drench using Weanerguard with selenium and B 12 at weaning in November 2014. All ewes are vaccinated with Eweguard annually and Deposel biannually, 6 weeks prior to lambing Sheep are not routinely drenched is accredited Brucellosis Free (Acc. Introduction Jayvee Farm Wiltipoll Stud, Bute, SA was established in 2009. Our foundation flock began with a Coolamon Park Ram and 7 Jutland Valley Ewes. In 2011 ewes were added to the flock along with a Carthona Ram from NSW. Further genetics were added in 2012 with the introduction of Munna ewes and a Munna Ram also from NSW. Our aim is to breed a heavy framed, clean shedding, fast growing meat sheep. In 2012 we purchased White Suffolk ewes and commenced a composite flock using our Wiltipoll rams. Our first cross has produced large framed progeny, some with strong shedding signs. We now have 2 nd and 3 rd cross progeny on the ground with full shedding occurring in some of the 2 nd cross ewes. In 2013, composite ewes with Dorper & Wiltipoll bloodlines were added to the flock. The first male progeny these are being offered in the 2015 sale. A full shedding composite ram with Poll Dorset, Dorper & Wiltipoll bloodlines was added to the breeding program in 2014. We are very pleased with our progress with the composite flock knowing that we can have some of the progeny on the ground as early as April/May. In 2016 a new Ultra White ram from WA is being introduced into the breeding program. Management & nutrition All lambs were bred at Bute, SA, predominantly lambing August, weaning occurring early December. It has been a challenging year earlier in the season with below average rain and heavy frosts. Good rains finally arrived in mid- July/August. Feed was scarce early. Our stock offered for the sale have been grazing on Vetch/Oat pasture, with occasional oaten hay. Our sheep predominately are fully shed by early spring. Flock health status Lambs were injected with Glanvac 6 in 1 with B 12 & Gudair at marking late Sept/early Oct 2014 and 6 in 1 with B 12 at weaning, early December 2014 All ewes injected 6 weeks prior to lambing with 6 in 1 plus B 12 and drenched annually Sale rams and ewes drenched with Abamectin 22/08/2015 Jayvee Farm is accredited Brucellosis Free.
