Box 397 North Jackson, Oh 44451-0397 http://www.yabtc.com 330 538-2907 From Marla Belzowski Editor s Note: Sorry everyone that August newsletter didn t get out. Unfortunately, some extensive over-sea travel for work got in the way of my newletter editing in August. Then a computer breakdown and other issues prevented others who tried to step in to help from complete it. So, here comes August and September Brags, Agility show results, and details on upcoming events, combined into a YABTC -Mega Summer issue. Hopefully everyone has had a great summer. Brags!! From Chris and Maria Gesing Ice (Afterhours Cool Sensation CD BN RN CGCA) earned his Rally Novice title under Judge Linda Ferrullo taking Second Place with a score of 98 at the Echo Hills Kennel Club Dog Show, Troy, OH June 13, 2015 From Shelley Kacenski NEW CHAMPION - "CH Snow Angel's Close to the Heart, CGC" At least one positive note I did get to spend one Sunday in Rome while working in Europe. I have a great photo of the month to share. From the City Center in Rome at Capital Hill, a photo of the original statue of Romulus and Remus with the She-Wolf. The Wolf is estimated to have been cast in bronze between 1020-1150 AD and the twins added later (not around the time of the founding of Rome as was claimed). It s been at this location since 1471. Regardless of it s history, it is still a remarkable statue to remain in such good shape for almost 1000 years. Enjoy! Brags!! (continued) From Shelley Kacenski Chloe finished her Championship on May 30th at the Toledo Kennel Club Shows at 18 months old! A week later at the McKinley Kennel Club I showed her for the first time as a special and she was awarded BOS for a competition win towards her GCH, Best of Breed Owner Handler and an Owner Handler Group One! Chloe is our second homebred Champion and third ownerhandled Champion here at Snow Angel Siberians. We are taking the summer off to grow a fresh coat and then back out in the Fall to finish her Grand Champion. From Dan & Vilma O'Neill Coursers of Ohio lure coursing trial at Austintown Park and wins the 11th Annual Ridgelea Memorial Trophy offered by Dr. Ross Zoll, Natalie Bandeian of Virginia and Pamela Rape. Named for Bachi, DC,CD,AX,AXJ,VE,CGC, ROM,RC,VFCH,BIF. Past winners were from Connecticut, New Jersey, West Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin & Ohio. Tally ho! - Robbie Garrett, President & Huntmaster Dan & Vilma O'Neill say "a thousand puppy kisses" to all at the Steel Valley cluster. Grandma Ariel's girl Tipsy 's mom Kayla 's beauty has come thru. Tipsy-Best Hound in puppy group at Canfield is a good way to start! Ridgeback SOJIE just got her AKC LCX 2 title June 28. The Lure Coursing Excellent is a field trial title given after a dog has earned the Field Championship title first, and has earned 45 additional Championship points from the Specials Stake. From Suzan Zimmerman Ripley finally got his last advanced standard in USDAA on June 21st which gave him his Advanced Agility Dog title and 7 more Q's till his ADCH! It is a cumulative title. Each time a hound accrues an additional 45 points it is eligible to receive the next title level. (LCX 2,3,4,etc). Sojie's mother ARIEL is an LCX 10. The highest title that any dog, all- breeds, has ever won. (The closest to her is an LCX 7) The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!! Proud of the athleticism and beauty of " Dual Champion Sojie" are breeders, owners & handlers Dan & Vilma O'Neill., Diamond Ridge Farm. Dan O'Neill 's Sojie launches herself after the "bunny." June 28 at Northcoast From Heidi Baltzly AKRON PET EXPO JUNE 6, 2015 Cleveland, Ohio TV 's DICK GODDARD comes out for the Cutest Pet Contest in Akron. This year over 80 entries competed for Cutest Pet. The panel of three judges pick the Top Ten Finalists- who all get a prize. Panzer won 2nd place and received a $ 75.00 gift card from Marc's. 2 Youngstown All Breed Training Club Aug/Sept 2015

And More Brags! From Janet Moore On May 25, 2015, he finished his Bronze Level Grand Championship at 21 months of age. He has one Owner Handler Best in Show under his belt and recently was awarded his first Group 3 in the Working Group. He not only is the handsome boy in the breed ring, but he also has some brains. He has finished his Canine Good Citizen, Beginner Novice, Rally Novice, Rally Advanced, and Rally Excellent titles. As of July 31, 2015, Apollo is #2 in Akita Owner Handler Rankings; #7 in Akita Breed Points; and #18 in Akita All Breed Points. Toby finished his UKC Championship on July 18 at the Carnation City K C show. His full name is UKC CH Janremlo Krystal Tobias RN CGC. From Mary Mignogna ~ Apollo's In The Rankings ~ Granted, he just recently turned 2, but I have not had a chance to brag of his accomplishments in his 2 years. Apollo is currently known as "Bronze GCH / MBIS UKC CH Absolute's I Want To Go The Distance at MiMar, BN, RE, CGC." He finished his AKC championship in 5 weekends a week into the 9-12 month puppy class. He then finished his AKC Grand Championship in 5-1/2 weekends at 10 months of age. He then competed in Futurity at our Nationals in October, 2014 and was awarded Best Junior Futurity. The highlight, as of right now, is he has been in the Top 20 since June, 2014 and has been invited to the Akita Club of America's Top 20. Needless to say, Apollo will be making his debut (as well as mine!!) in the Top 20 at our Nationals in Texas in October, 2015. Thank you to everyone who has supported & cheered Apollo and I in the rings and who gave me the confidence when I was not feeling it. Apollo has truly made my male show dog dreams come true... to our future "Turtle"... ~ Akita with a CDX?? ~ That's right!!! Mikki - Bronze GCH Huntmere Always In Your Corner at MiMar, CDX, CD, BN, RAE, CGC, VA, AOM - finished her Companion Dog Excellent title. I never thought this day would come, but all the training we did, it was like it clicked in her head as to what I was wanting from her. Mikki also finished her Bronze Level Grand Championship this year. She is currently taking some time off to be a mom, but we will be training for her Utility Dog title next year. So hopefully the "Peanut" can add UD to her many titles!!! Aug/Sep 2015 Youngstown All Breed Training Club 3

Welfare With several very old dogs at the house, it seem that this is a time for loss in the LegendHold Collie Clan. On August 7, 2015 at almost 12 years old, Can Ch/Am Ptd LegendHold U ll Be In my Heart CD, PT, JHD, TT, - Tarzan left us for the Rainbow Bridge. Tarzan and his sister Belle Am CH/Can ptd LegendHold Beauty N T Beast CD,PT are littermates from Everest s, Can CH/Am Ptd Bellagio Platinum Pinnacle CDX, HSAd, TT, JHD, ROM-P Everest out of Tomelle s Black Eyed Susan HT Suzie. Tarzan finished his Canadian Championship before he was 7 months old. He was a beautiful puppy with a properly shaped, medium-sized almond shaped-eyed called for in the Collie Standard. His melting expression only helped to disprove the myth that all normal eyed collies have open or poor expressions. Tarzan quickly finished his CD, HT and PT which helped qualify his sire for his ROM-P title. Unfortunately, Tarzan had a few non-sequential seizures over his lifetime which were not specifically diagnosed as epilepsy due to the extensive time between episodes. He did have a substantial cancerous mass removed from his throat and tonsils as a young dog which may have also migrated to his brain causing the periodic seizue events. He was never bred due to the concerns around the cancer and seizures, even though multiple people had asked to use him. Tarzan was a great Ambasador of the collie breed and he will be deeply missed. Marla Belzowski e-mail your News Stories too us! Newsletter@yabtc.com or LegendHold@johnwstown.net On Sepetember 1, my silly little girl Xena, Am ptd LegendHold Warrieor Princess CD, PT,CGC had to be helped across the Rainbow Bridge. She was just 7 days short of 13 years old. Like her sister Fortune she was a very special girl, one of only two puppies for her mother Phoenix, LegendHold When Ashes Ascend CDX,RN,TT,CGC. Xena like her grand mother Rachel, had taken up a habit of sleeping in an old reclining chair I have been wanted to toss out for a long time. She would get up into it and rock herself while looking out the window. She would bring me my mud-shoes every night as I came home from work and greet me at the door with them to go out and toodle about in the yard. She would relish the chance to steal a duck egg from the small barn, even when I pulled one out for her and rolled it to her, she would wait for me to turn back working before sneaking it away. It was her own made up game she wanted to play for me to chase her and try to get the egg back. She was a very special girl and the house is now very empty without her here to greet me each evening. Xena will be greatly missed, as all of the special ones are. - Marla Belzowski Today was a heartbreaker at te house of Blackbrook. This morning my son and daughter and I had the honor of holding Von Gailingens Good Heavens CGC, CDX,RE aka Gracie one last time as she traveled across the bridge. She was a few weeks short of 14. A big piece of my heart went with her. She took great care of us and left so many memories. She taught us many lessons. Havinf her 14 years wass a gift. SO fortunate to still have her here in Tonka and Sara. Thank you to everyone for your throughts and prayers. That s what got us through. Gods speed Gracie gooose! You will be in our hearts forever. - Caren Vicich 4 Youngstown All Breed Training Club Aug/Sept 2015

Training Director s Corner (for August & Sept) Howdy, Hope everyone is having a successful summer of 2015 showing/trialing season! As we come off another successful Canfield Steel Valley Cluster, keep in mind that we re here to help you train for those big success stories and we love to hear your brags! Our members are out there doing so many things: Breed, Rally, Agility, Obedience, Barn Hunts, Lure Coursing, Dock Diving, Earth Dog, Herding, Shed Hunting, Coach Dog, Schutzhund You name it, YABTC members are out there as representatives of our club! I would like to remind members that if you are bringing a new dog to the club to train, and I don t mean Puppy, or the Beginner classes, but one that may be older and has trained elsewhere You need to have that dog evaluated, before entering any classes that require work in close proximity to other dogs, and/or requiring off-lead work. The instructors of advanced agility and obedience classes are given information on each new dog, so that they may maintain a safe working environment. Just because you are a member, you can t simply bring in a new dog to train in the upper level classes. This also goes for walk-ups, who pay for 8 weeks of ongoing classes such as Novice/Open/Utility Obedience, or advanced Agility classes. Happy Fall, everyone! Well technically, it s not Fall, yet but it s right around the corner! As we head into the final stretch of 2015, I ll ask that anyone considering teaching agility and obedience classes to step up and contact me, Rae, or Kim, regarding taking that plunge. It s rewarding to see your hard work pay off, when one of your students earns a title on a Fredrick Stanley dog, or your student becomes a member of YABTC, or in my case, a student becomes eligible to judge! Not to mention the fact that teaching and assisting can reduce your club dues, each time you give of your time! (We REALLY appreciate that!) Teaching will also make you a better trainer You will be exposed to problem-solving, which, in turn, will benefit your training. Speaking of teaching and training, here is a link to Deb Jones blog: https://k9infocus.wordpress.com/ Lastly, if you train multiple dogs, let s not try to bring them in all at the same time. Kim and I are training 3 Airedales currently but NEVER bring them in together. We set our crates up, bring the kids in one at a time, and bring the rest of our junk in afterwards. It s not a Roman chariot race. Oh, and try not to make one trip with all of your kit! If you need help, just ask but don t try to juggle fluffy, your crate, your treats and your training stuff all at once this is a recipe for disaster. The class registrars should give notice to the new attendees, that testing will be required, and a group testing date will be established. AND 6 Youngstown All Breed Training Club Aug/Sept 2015

Shout out! Photo spot: Watson! I wanted to thank the YABTC members who came out and worked at our recent August 14,15,16 trial. You are an awesome group! Other than a timing issue that our judges "fixed" for us, everything went quite smoothly, especially considering that on Friday we only had 5 of our 12 committee members who were able to attend. You all stepped up and filled in the gaps! No one can now say that our trials run too long as this one finished in mid afternoon! However, it could never had been accomplished without all of you working together. I especially want to thank Rae and Bill Reinhart who filled in for Lotta these last few trials and did it admirably. Rae rarely runs her dog at these events, but gives her full time to the worker-herder job, and Bill is always willing to jump in when people don't show. This was on top of the Camper job that Rae oversees. But Rae has let me know that she is more than willing to give the job back to Lotta! We are in the process of training some other people to help with the work load for this and are going to try dividing the work into a Worker Scheduler and Worker Herders. Stay tuned. I was also encouraged to see Aaron Coates, Mike and Mary Ann's son, putting so many hours into the trial to help in various capacities. He is a trooper! Few teens would be willing to give that much of their time so unselfishly. He gives me hope for our next generation! Three days are very tiring for EVERYONE and so I thank you all for your part. There are too many workers to name! From the people who worked all day, to those of you who gave a few hours, thank you, thank you, thank you! YABTC is so fortunate to have you all! Please mark your calendar for the upcoming Oct. 2,3,4 trial at our building. It should be fun! If you haven't gotten your entry in, now is a great time to do so. Sandy Irish YABTC Aug. Caught in the Act! Randy and Jaeger! (reprinted with permission) The Dog Days of Summer Are Back at UPMC Horizon Volunteer Randy Simmons does not mind that he is often ignored when he walks into the hospital. That is because his companion, a Weimaraner named Jaeger, is showered with all of the attention. Jaeger is one of the therapy dogs that regularly visits UPMC Horizon, in order to provide patients with a few moments of comfort. After an absence of many years, Dana Piatek, infection prevention coordinator, said they received the blessing of Marianna Stoneburner, chief nursing officer, to evaluate letting therapy dogs back into the hospital. The dogs have been making periodic visits since the beginning of the year. Before being allowed in the hospital, Ms. Piatek said the dogs must have all of their vaccinations and annual exams, and be certified as therapy dogs. On the day of their visit dogs must be bathed, groomed, and on a leash. I m all about what is best for the patients, Ms. Piatek said. As long as all of the policies are followed there is no reason the dogs should not be here. The dogs are allowed at both campuses, except in the LDRP and ICU units. Mr. Simmons said Jaeger has been a therapy dog for several years and is registered by a group called Pet Partners. Dogs and handlers must be retested every two years, and they are required to pass a 21-part test. Gilson said. She also said Jeager and Bella have known each other for years. Mr. Simmons said they don t enter rooms without the permission of the patient. Visits normally only last a few minutes, but they are very therapeutic. I usually don t even exist, Mr. Simmons said. They see Jaeger and they connect with him right away. You can just watch the patients brighten up, it s wonderful to see. The fact that Jaeger is a four-year cancer survivor can create an even stronger bond when they visit cancer patients. Their bond with the dog is so intense, Mr. Simmons said. Ms. Gilson said when she got Bella, a black lab, who is now seven, the dog was very calm, and Ms. Gilson knew Bella would make a good therapy dog. The two also spend time visiting children at library reading programs. Ms. Gilson and Mr. Simmons said they spend about an hour to an hour and a half per visit, but the dogs are so popular it can sometimes be hard even making it out of the lobby. Staff and visitors alike are drawn to the dogs. Mr. Simmons said they once came upon a screaming child who looked to be trying his mother s patience, but when Jaeger approached and looked up at the child, it was instant silence. Mr. Simmons said he can tell when Jaeger is ready to go home as the dog uses a lot of energy during the visits. He sacks out, Mr. Simmons said.. Charlene Gilson, who works in the Pharmacy, spends some of her off hours visiting patients with her therapy dog Bella. It s very rewarding to see the reaction from people, and it takes their minds off of what they are going through, Ms. 8 Youngstown All Breed Training Club Aug/Sept 2015
