The Magic Scissors - Unit 12 Worksheets - Reader 2 Reading Worksheet 1 Being kind to animals makes us better humans. Read this story about a kind hearted farmer and a horse. (The plough is a tool used in farming for cultivation of soil before sowing seeds or planting.) Once upon a time there lived a poor farmer. One day, he heard a cry coming from a nearby forest. He dropped his plough and ran to the forest. There, caught in a hole in the ground was a wounded brown horse, terrified and struggling to free itself. The farmer pulled the horse out, nursed it back to health and let it go free. A few days later while ploughing the field, the farmer suffered a shooting pain in the chest and fell down. The hot sun that burned his face turned to cool shade. He opened his eyes to see the brown horse blocking the sunlight. It lowered its head and the farmer placed the plough on the horse and rested under a tree. While the farmer slept peacefully, the horse ploughed the field and that s how their frienship began.
