Wildlife oral vaccination campaign 2012 Vaccination covered all territory of Latvia Spring vaccination (April - May) Distance between flight lines 500 meters. Used 1 600 000 Lysvulpen baits. 25 baits/km 2 Autumn vaccination (August - September) Distance between flight lines 500 meters. Used 1 553 000 Lysvulpen baits. 24 baits/km 2 6

Campaign control measures Each flight track is registered by GPS and documented. The report number is harmonized with flight track number. Data recorded for each flight: date, time, duration, amount of vaccine distributed, area (km 2 ) covered and responsible persons. Control of vaccination efficiency hunted/found dead foxes and raccoon dogs (4 animals / 100 km 2 territory) are purchased from hunters and submitted to NRL (bait uptake and immunity level). 7

Probably due to the change of the vaccine... 8

Rabies programme in the Belarus (1) From 2012 EU co-financed programme includes oral vaccination of wildlife (foxes and raccoon dogs) in Belarus territory near Latvia border to establish approximately 50 km buffer zone The purpose - to eradicate rabies in the buffer zone (Verkhnedvinsk, Ushachi, Docshitci, Glubokoe, Miory, Polotsk, Rossony, Sharkovshchina districts) in Belarus The area of the buffer zone is 10 850 km 2 Implementation of the program ensured by Food and Veterinary Department of Belarus 9
