Town of Superior SUPERIOR NEWS Volume Issue Winter 2018 Look. Listen. Learn This is National Fire Prevention Week and a great opportunity to remind our family to be Fire Aware. With winter now here, it is important to be aware fire can happen at home, as well as other locations such as friends and relatives homes. There are a few basic but vitally important steps family members can take to remain safe this winter. Three simple but essential ways parents and children can reduce their risk to fire and be prepared in the event of one are: LOOK for places that fire can start. Look for and remove clothing and combustible material that may sit around stoves, fireplaces or furnaces. LISTEN for the sound of the smoke alarms in your home. Even take the time to push the test button on a smoke alarm so that family members can hear and understand what an alarm sounds like. Then agree on a plan in advance if an alarm does go off. LEARN two ways out of each room. Take a walk thru the House and discuss two ways out. Simple steps to make our homes safer during the coming winter months. If a lot of needles fall off, it is dried out. Don t keep the tree up too long, as it dries out it becomes more of a fire hazard. Keep the stand filled with water at all times.
