The USRC Breed Suitability Test (BST) was designed to determine if a Rottweiler possess the necessary qualities to be used in a breeding program and the US gene pool. USRC BSTs are judged by qualified USRC and international judges. A written critique of the BST is provided to the owner and also is reported in the annual USRC Breed Book. The BST also appears on the USRC pedigree of any progeny that the dog may produce. USRC offers the Breed Suitability Test (BST) at all Full Member Club Shows. There are two parts to the BST. The first part evaluates conformation and structure using the FCI breed standard. The dog is measured, weighed, critiqued and moved to ensure that it possesses no structural or disqualifying faults. The second part is a temperament test. Tests in this phase include indifference to gunshots and for composure while moving within a group of people. The dog must also complete a protection test, which includes defense of the handler and a courage test. USRC strongly believes that BSTs, and the other more advanced breed tests, are vital to maintaining the Rottweiler in type, temperament, form and function. BST Requirements: - Owner, co-owner (if applicable) and handler must be USRC members - Dog must be registered with USRC - Dog must be at least 18 months of age - Dog must have a tattoo for identification purposes - Dog must have a weight certificate from a vet dated within 30 days of the test - Dogs must have a USRC recognized hip certification Saturday, April 29, 2006 Sire The following documents MUST be submitted with BST entry: - Copy of USRC Membership Card for owner, co-owner (if applicable) & handler - Copy of USRC Registration for the dog being entered - Copy of Scorebook showing titles earned, scorebook number and full name of dog** - Copy of document showing prior BST attempts, if any - Copy of USRC recognized Hip Certification - Copy of a weight certificate from a Vet within 30 days of test date : Send all entries and copies of supporting documents along with a check for entry fees to: BH Handler: Co- Event : Entry Fee: $ *Original documents must be available at the show for inspection at the time of the BST **Copy of the USRC Registration Certificate may be accepted as proof of titles earned and hip certification if the required information appears on the Registration Certificate Entry Deadline April 10, 2006

The Begleithund, or BH, was developed as a preliminary character evaluation designed to keep aggressive, sharp, shy, or nervous dogs from participating in the sport of Schutzhund. There are two parts to the BH. The first is an obedience test. The exercises are done in groups of two dogs/handlers. Both teams report to the judge and state their name, their dogs name and that they are trialling for the BH. The judge then directs each team to their appropriate locations. While one team is performing the heeling exercises, the other team is doing the long down. The second part is a traffic sureness/temperament test. This part of the test consists of exercises preformed to evaluate the dog's ability to function in heavy traffic. These exercises are conducted in the open in areas with some traffic.- The BH is a pass/fail test. In order to earn the title, BH, the dog must obtain at least 70 percent of the available points in the obedience test. The dog and handler may then proceed to the traffic test. In the traffic testing, there are no points, the dog will either pass or fail. While the dog must obtain the required points to pass, judges are looking for the overall picture of the exercises. The minimum age for the BH trial is 15 months. Once a dog has attained this title, it can proceed on to compete in the regular Schutzhund, the FH tracking titles and the USRC breed tests. NOTE: A written test is now mandatory for those who are first time competitors with a BH dog. This test will be taken before the obedience and traffic portions of the BH. - USRC approved scorebook. - Dog must be at least 15 months of age BH Handler: Saturday, April 29, 2006 Sire -Copy of USRC approved scorebook showing the scorebook number and full name of dog** Co- Send all entries and copies of supporting documents along with a check for entry fees to: Event : Entry Fee: $ Prior BST Attempt (date and location): *Original documents must be available at the show for inspection at the time of the BH *Original documents must be available at the show for inspection at the time of the BST **Copy of the USRC Registration Certificate may be accepted as proof of titles earned and hip certification if the required information appears on the USRC Registration Certificate

Similar to the USRC BST, the USRC Advanced Breed Test or ABST, was designed to determine if a Rottweiler possess the necessary qualities to continue be used in a breeding program. USRC strongly believes that breed tests, are vital to maintaining the Rottweiler in type, temperament, form and function. Like the BST, there are two parts to the ABST...the conformation evaluation and the character test. However, in the ABST, a higher level character examination is performed and a higher performance level is expected. USRC ABSTs are judged by qualified USRC and international judges. A written critique of the ABST is provided to the owner and also is reported in the annual USRC Breed Book. The ABST also appears on the USRC pedigree of any progeny that the dog may produce. USRC offers the Advanced Breed Suitability Test (ABST) twice per year at the USRC National Sieger Show and the USRC National Schutzhund Championship. - Owner, co-owner (if applicable) and the handler must be USRC members - Males must be a minimum of 36 months of age. The Ausdauerprufung award, or AD, is not a training degree but is for show and breed requirements. The endurance test (AD) provides documentation that the dog is physically able to endure a certain amount of physical stress without showing significant fatigue. Given the physical structure of the dog, this condition can best be shown through running, which challenges the heart and lungs as well as the rest of the body. Other characteristics such as spirit and hardness must be present. Successful demonstration of this test will provide proof that the desired physical and mental characteristics are present in a healthy dog. The test should preferably be run on streets or roads of varied terrain such as asphalt or dirt. The handler will accompany the dog only on a bicycle. The dogs will run a total of 20 km (approximately 12.5 miles) at an average speed of 12 to 15 km per hour (7.7 to 9.5 mph). The dog must be kept on leash on the RIGHT hand side of the handler and move in a normal trot next to the bicycle. The AD is not a race and overly fast running is to be avoided. The leash must be sufficient in length to allow the dog to adjust to changes in speed. Slight pulling or forging is not faulty but continually falling behind is faulty. There will be three 15 minute rest periods: one at 8 km (5 miles), 15 km (9.4 miles) and at the completion of the test. During the rest periods, the judge will examine the dogs for fatigue. Dogs that appear to be overly tires or show signs of sore or damages paw pads will be excused. At the end of the test, after the last rest period, the dogs will be required to perform a short heeling routine (on or off lead) at the judges request, in order for the judge to verify the psychological condition of the dogs. The exercises performed are at the discretion of the judge. At the start of the test, the handler will report to the judge with the dog in the heel position. At that time the USRC scorebook and registration papers should be presented. The judge and the show secretary will verify that the dogs are in good condition. The AD is a pass/fail test. No awards or points are given. Only dogs that pass will be given the AD certification. The USRC Lifetime Breed Test or LBST, was designed to honor those Rottweilers have demonstrated exemplary qualities in the ring, on the field and in the whelping box. Rottweilers that achieve the LBST have proven that they are the Total Rottweiler in type, temperament, working ability and genetic soundness.. Like the BST & ABST, there are two parts to the LBST...the conformation evaluation and the character test. However, as in the ABST, an even higher level character examination is performed and a higher performance level is expected in the LBST. USRC LBSTs are judged by qualified USRC and international judges. A written critique of the LBST is provided to the owner and also is reported in the annual USRC Breed Book. The LBST also appears on the USRC pedigree of any progeny that the dog may produce. USRC offers the Lifetime Breed Suitability Test (LBST) twice per year at the USRC National Sieger Show and the USRC National Schutzhund Championship. - Owner, co-owner (if applicable) and handler must be USRC members. - Males must be a minimum of 36 months of age/females must be a minimum of 30 months of age. - The dog must be registered with USRC. - The dog must have a USRC ABST or ADRK Korung dated no less than 1 year prior to the LBST. - After obtaining a BST and before attempting an LBST a male must have sired at least 3 litters registered with USRC and a bitch must have whelped at least one litter registered with USRC. The progeny must have been evaluated by a USRC Breed Warden and must be found to be free of visible genetic faults, i.e. white spots, long hair, deformities.
