Cavaliers of the South 12/04/10, Nashville, TN Judge: Mandy Mulligan (Nightingale) I would like to thank the Cavaliers of the South for inviting me to judge their wonderful championship show in Nashville this year. Everything ran very smoothly due to the efficiency of Earline Barrois and Nancy Maddox. I want to give a special thank you and vote of appreciation to Mimi Hodges who acquired the most phenomenal rosettes that I have ever seen. It made the day so special for both the winners and for me. Well done Mimi! I would also like to thank the exhibitors for showing their lovely dogs. I was very pleased with the entry. I thought the quality overall was excellent. The majority of the dogs were so well presented and in good condition. One thing that comes to mind is that our standard calls for well muscled hindquarters. Many of the dogs that I went over could use a little roadwork or more running in the yard. The hindquarters give the drive the dogs need to have that beautiful fluid movement around the ring. Also I would like to remind exhibitors to resist trimming. There were a few examples of trimmed dogs today. I wish a very Happy New Year to all in our club. We have a unique and wonderful group of people and dogs that we should all be proud of. I am pleased that my family and I can be a part of this Cavalier world. Junior Puppy Dog (5) 1. Seneca Manor Native Dancer (Gerkin) Sweet 5 ½ month old blenheim with lovely proportions and good bone for his age. Attractive head, lovely eyes. I liked his length of neck and shoulder placement. Level topline and correct tailset and carriage. Best mover in the class. Showed with confidence and pizzazz for such a young man. Very promising pup that should do well. 2. Orchardhill Quiet American (Venier) Almost 9 month puppy showing his maturity in this class. Loads and loads of straight coat. He has a beautiful head with large, dark round eyes. Neck and shoulders correct. Topline was the problem today. He was roaching his back, particularly on the move. 3. Parkbury Sole Mate (Parker) 7 month old blenheim with a nice compact body. Good topline and spring of ribs. Pretty head, correct topline. Good movement. Tailset a bit low. 4. Krystle Born On The Fourth Of July (Torgersen) Baby puppy showing on his 5 month birthday. Very sweet face, good bone, but carrying too much weight which spoiled his movement and topline. Senior Puppy Dog (2) 1. Dreamvale Smart As The Dickens (Warshaw) Adorable tri boy that has so much going for him. Starts off with a pretty head, lovely eyes, long ears framing face with correct high earset. Well proportioned with a good amount of bone for his age. Level topline, correct tailset and carriage. Good rear angulation obvious in his drive and movement. Nice coat coming. His name is appropriate as he can be a little dickens in the ring. Best Puppy Dog, Best Puppy in Show 2. Both of these boys show promise. Novice D (1) 1. Riverview Medicine Man (Barrois) Nice tri dog with a masculine head, lovely neck and shoulders. Good bone, well sprung ribs, deep chest.
