NOTICE BOARD FORMER CKC BOARD MEMBER SET TO JUDGE AT WESTMINSTER ONCE AGAIN It is with great pride that we congratulate Dr. Richard Meen on his appointment as the Best in Show Judge at the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Dr. Meen is not new to Westminster; in fact he has judged at the world s most prestigious canine event on four other occasions, including the Terrier Group in 2007. A former, long-serving CKC Chairman of the Board, Dr. Meen is also a founding member of Borzoi Canada and Skye Canada breed clubs, an international dog judge, renowned breeder and an esteemed psychiatrist. Dr. Meen became actively involved with purebred dogs in 1965 with the purchase of his first Afghan Hound, Shan. He went on to breed and exhibit Borzoi, Skye Terriers, Harriers, Italian Greyhounds, French Bulldogs, Old English Sheepdogs, Scottish Deerhounds and Doberman Pinschers under the prefix Kishniga. Dr. Meen s homebred Borzoi was top dog All Breeds in Canada in 1977, and he bred and co-owned the top Terrier in Canada in 2011 a Skye Terrier. Dr. Meen remains one of our Club s extraordinary and inspirational members, renowned for his exceptional accomplishments and significant contributions to the purebred dog world. Click here for a more in-depth look at Dr. Meen's illustrious achievements and inspirational anecdotes - as told by Mike Macbeth. You can view additional details about the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club judges panel and assignments right here. (Photo: Dr. Meen - Standing in for Annie Rogers Clarke judging the Terrier Group at the 2007 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show) CKC AND NESTLÉ PURINA PETCARE CANADA PRESENT CHEQUE TO NATIONAL SERVICE DOGS The Canadian Kennel Club, in partnership with The Purina National sponsor, Nestlé Purina PetCare Canada, were thrilled to present a cheque for $40,000 to the National Service Dogs on May 13, 2015. This significant award was presented on the night that a special group of puppies began their new lives as official National Service Dogs that will enrich the quality of life for many individuals with special needs. Since 1996, National Service Dogs has graduated over 350 Certified Service Dog Teams, helped many service dog organizations around the world start their own autism programs, and has started three new programs: Certified Service Dogs for PTSD, Canine Assisted Intervention and Companion Dog Services. CKC Zone 6 Director, Paul Oslach and CKC Communications Manager, Andrew Patton were on hand for the exciting presentation, along with Danielle Forbes, Executive Director of National Service Dogs, Lauralee Camilleri, Breeder Services Manager at Nestlé Purina PetCare Canada and Dean McNeill, Public Relations & Corporate Communications Manager, Nestlé Purina PetCare Canada. CKC was delighted to have the opportunity to support such significant, life-changing work done by the National Service Dogs said Mr. Patton. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a special evening and we wish the canine graduates the best of luck in their new role. Read more about the incredible event right here. 2 JUNE 2015

NOTICE BOARD CKC ADVISES JUDGES TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AT CKC EVENTS RE: CANINE INFLUENZA To ensure the safety and welfare of our dogs given the recent Canine Influenza outbreak in the U.S., The Canadian Kennel Club recommends that all judges at CKC events ask exhibitors to open the dog's mouth for examination. We advise Judges who choose to open a dog's mouth for examination to sanitize their hands when possible. MILESTONES We regret to announce the passing of the following members. The Canadian Kennel Club wishes to extend condolences to family and friends. Diane N. Donlon of Colborne, Ontario Eleanor Foley of South Rawdon, Nova Scotia William Mark of Little Britain, Ontario Susan H. Edwards of London, Ontario Such precautions are being advised by The American Kennel Club, following an increase in reported cases of Canine Influenza in the U.S. In a recently released notice to its Conformation Judges, Tim Thomas, Director, Dog Show Judges at the AKC, offered direction on limiting its spread: As you may be aware, there has been a recent increase in reported cases of Canine Influenza. In consideration of this fact, and for the safety and welfare of our dogs, Judging Operations strongly advises that all judges should ask the exhibitor to show the bite/open the mouth when conducting oral exams. This recommendation is consistent with information included in The Rules, Policies and Guidelines for Conformation Dog Show Judges under Evaluating a Dog s Mouth (page 13), Many exhibitors prefer to open their dog s mouth themselves for examination. However, you have the authority to personally open the dog s mouth. We do encourage judge s as a general practice to ask exhibitors to open the mouth. In addition to sanitary reasons; the exhibitor is familiar with the dog resulting in a more efficient and pleasant experience. If necessary, as the judge you do have the authority to personally open the dog s mouth. If it does become necessary or you elect to conduct the oral exam yourself, we do advise that you sanitize your hands after examining each dog. While CKC remains concerned about the Canine Influenza virus, the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association confirms that there is no reported outbreak of the virus in Canada at this time. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at information@ckc.ca. CLUBS Notice is hereby given that the following club has dissolved: Papillon Fanciers Guild of Alberta 3
