Brought to you by the Newfoundland Club of Northern California Calendar Guests are welcome at general meetings and all other events! NCA National Specialty April 10-15, 2017 Gleneden Beach, Oregon Contact: Kevin Gallagher The 2017 NCA National Specialty is rapidly approaching. It will be held at the Salishan Spa and Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach on the Oregon coast, which is a truly beautiful location. A website is available for the show, which includes the Information Packet -- You can access it through the National Specialty Information link on the NCA website. The show will include sweepstakes, conformation, obedience & rally, a draft test, and many other activities. We will offer several new optional titling obedience classes, including Preferred Novice, Preferred Open and Preferred Utility. These last three classes include lower jump heights and some other differences from the corresponding Regular Classes. (Check them out in the AKC Obedience Regulations.) If you would like to steward for obedience on either Tuesday or Wednesday, you can volunteer on the

Also, a totally new event will be offered, the Iron Dog competition, which includes exercises from obedience, draft and water work. Good luck to all the participants, and many thanks to the long list of folks who are helping to make this show a success. The third and final Carting Seminar was held on March 11 at Lagoon Valley Park in Vacaville. Cherrie Brown was in charge of this one, with help from several club members. Four beginner dogs, two intermediate dogs, and two draft-test prep entries (including a team) participated. I am a bit surprised that during this very wet season, we were able to have all three carting seminars without any rain-outs. These seminars, besides providing a training opportunity for anyone interested, also provide important fund-raising for this year s other working events. Thank you to all for supporting the seminars. NCNC will not have a Spring Draft Test this year, but there will be a draft test at the National Specialty in Oregon in April, 2017. Looking further ahead, NCNC plans to host a water work seminar on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Folsom Lake. Contact Dawn Druge or Jennifer Larsen, or check the Newfs Paper and website for information. The early Summer Water Test is scheduled at Folsom Lake on July 22-23, 2017. Each day will have a WD/WRD test, and Saturday will include WRDX, as well. Also, please mark your calendars for the Annual

Board 10 am/general 12pm Castro Valley, Hazel Jacoby's house Annual Meeting/Board/General Meeting Saturday Feb 24, 2018 Board 10 am/general 12pm TBD NCNC Picnic on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the San Leandro Marina Park. We have used this park very successfully several times now. Being right on the bay, the weather has been great. We will be at the larger Sea Gull area this year, so there will be lots of room for delicious BBQ food & drink, socializing, and various Newfy games and activities. Please plan to come, and bring your furry friends with you! Patrick Benshoof and Lisa Lee are again the Chairs, so let them know if you would like to help out. We have lots of activities planned for you and your dogs. As always, check the calendar section of the Newfs Paper or the NCNC website for more details. I hope to see you there! Have fun with your Newfs! ~ John Pearson, NCNC President Newfoundland Health and Rescue Dogs in Rescue Here is a status of the dogs currently in rescue: Ele 4 year old Brown female available
