Annual Report of the President Pat Randall It's been an honor to serve as NCA president over the past year. I have to thank a great many members who helped me grow into this job. The talent and generosity of our members are truly remarkable. It's been exciting to see the Juniors program so active, I'm sure those of you able to attend this year s National specialty will notice the juniors to be very much in evidence. I think many of our lives would have been very different had we known of this world when we were younger. We have also been the beneficiaries of incredibly organized and smoothly running nationals. There is something to be said for using the same site over a few years. Most of the credit, however, goes to the show committees who for some reason commit themselves to months of difficult and sometimes thankless work. Please remember the dedication and hard work of these volunteers and do whatever you can to make their job as easy as possible and make the whole thing run smoothly again, regardless of the obstacles we might encounter. Lastly, each year we recognize older dogs with our living legends program. As breeders and exhibitors we have a great perspective on the cycle of generations, sometimes saying goodbye to the last generation while welcoming the new generation of puppies. It is truly haunting to see our past dogs in the look and behavior of their descendents. This has to remind us of our own frailty and the fact that our generations, as well, come and go--with just a slightly longer time span. We have also said good bye to several members and former members who have been great friends of the Newfoundland breed and the club for many years. Please keep them in mind during this national and annual meeting, and beyond. They have a great legacy in the breed they have helped to preserve. Annual Report of the 1 st Vice President Roger Frey The 1st Vice President acts as liaison with the Newfoundland Club of America's Charitable Trust Management Board (CTMB). In that capacity I attended the monthly CTMB teleconference meetings and would report back to the NCA Board, which acts as the Trustee for the Trust, on the proceedings of said meetings. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve as your First Vice-President. It is also inspiring to see firsthand the dedication and commitment of the members of the CTMB under the capable leadership of Chairman, Dr. Clyde Dunphy.

Annual Report of the 2 nd Vice-President Pam Saunders It has been an amazing year serving as the 2 nd Vice President. As the 2 nd Vice President, one of my responsibilities is Committee Liaison and although it s a lot of hard work it has been an extremely rewarding experience. Currently the NCA has 40 committees with over 120 committee members, most all of which are volunteers. It is truly amazing the dedication and passion to the breed that these committee members have, spending countless hours working with their committees because of their love for these wonderful dogs. We owe these committee members a debt of gratitude because without them the NCA would not function. They are the work force of the NCA and I for one would like to thank each and every one of them. It has been a pleasure working with them all. I would also like to thank the committee members who are no longer serving at this time. Their past work is greatly appreciated Linda Roderick Recognition Virginia Kelly Working Dog Committee Roger Powell Working Dog Committee & Steering Mary Lou Roberts - Steering Karen Steinrock AKC Breed Column Barbara Grob Performance & Companion Events Anna Lorenz Performance & Companion Events David Helming Steering Donna Thibault Gen Ed Sharon Gilbert Gen Ed Sonia Nicholson International Liaison Patti Testa Juniors Cathy Dunphy- Newf Ambassador Ken Price Steering In sadness, our loss of Nancy Aliff Arbitration and Barbara Frey- Companion Newfoundlands & Working Dog Committee If you have a desire to become involved in a NCA committee please contact any Board member or committee Chair for more information. Thank you again for the opportunity to serve as NCA 2 nd Vice President. This year has been amazing and I am often humbled to be in the presence of such amazing talent and dedication as we have on the NCA committees. Great job everyone and have a wonderful National.

Annual Report of the Corresponding Secretary Lynne Anderson- Powell During the last year I have received thousands of communications from organizations such as the AKC, OFA, other Parent Breed Clubs, Universities and many other dog related entities. I have been contacted by hundreds of people from most of our United States as well as from many countries around the world. Newf fanciers, NCA and Regional Club members have contacted the NCA Corresponding Secretary to ask questions, request information or provide input on any number of topics. The thing that is most remarkable about all of this correspondence is that it was almost all done electronically. In fact 99.9 % of the communications I received during the year have been via email. In my report last year I assured you that the electronic methods of communications do work. They do and I welcome your use of them. However, when the opportunity exists, I urge you to actually speak to the people who work for you and the club the Board of Directors, the Committee Chairs and members, the people who put on our shows and working events. Speaking person to person allows us make real contact. If we do it enough we get to know each other as people, not as an email address or web list member or Facebook friend. By reaching out up front and personal our message and intent will be more completely understood. Perhaps we can get to know each other better and will realize how much we are the alike in our concern for, commitment to and love for our Newfoundlands. This is especially important when it comes to the people who serve you through our Club. People, much like our Newfs, require human contact to be their best. Can you imagine not personally interacting with your Newf?! So much would be lost that way. Once again I will assure you that the NCA Board values all communications, especially those from our members. In the end the most important thing is that you do contact us and share your thoughts, concerns and ideas. But if the opportunity allows, pick up the phone or walk up to any of us at a show or event and let s get to know each other better.

Annual Report of the Recording Secretary - Mary Lou Cuddy Good Evening, Since the last annual meeting at the 2011 National Specialty held in Frankenmuth, MI, the Board has held a total of eleven meetings, including two face-to-face meetings. Nine of these meetings were conducted using nine teleconferences. The Board held a face-to-face meeting on November 4-6, 2011 in Rosemont, IL and also just concluded a face-to-face meeting this week. The minutes of all the meetings have been or will be published in Newf Tide and are available on the NCA Website as are the agendas for those meetings. The other major responsibility of the Recording Secretary is the NCA election. There were 847 ballots cast out of 1653 possible for an approximate voting turnout of 51%. The election results have been published in Newf Tide. I would like to thank the Board for their support and for the honor of serving as Recording Secretary. I would also like to thank the membership for allowing me the honor of representing them for this past year and for re-electing me to another term. Annual Report of the Treasurer - Mary L. Price

Annual Report of the AKC Delegate - Mary W. Price The following information is intended as a supplement to my 2011 annual report which appears on page 78 of the first quarter 2012 issue of Newf Tide. Thus far in 2012, there has been only one meeting of American Kennel Club Delegates. The organization s annual meeting took place in Newark, New Jersey, on March 13, at which time elections were held to fill three vacancies on the AKC Board of Directors, Class of 2016. From among seven candidates, the following persons were elected: Patricia Cruz, a former AKC field representative; Thomas Powers, an attorney from Southern California; William Feeney, an attorney from Northern California. All three represent all-breed clubs. At a meeting of the AKC Board of Directors, convened after the Delegates meeting, Alan Kalter, Delegate of the American Bullmastiff Association and a scion of the advertising world, was elected as Chairman of the Board. Robert D. Smith, Delegate of the Memphis Kennel Club and an all-breed judge, was elected Vice Chairman of the Board. Former Chairman Ronald Meneker and Vice Chairman Dr. Tom Davies, along with longtime Board member Walter Goodman, were honored by the assembly for their many contributions and years of service to the organization. All three of these men were ineligible to seek re-election due to term limits but may choose to seek a Board seat after a one-year hiatus. At this same meeting, Delegates approved the request to withdraw the proposal to award championship points to Reserve Winners at national specialty shows. A few changes to the proposal are expected before it is again presented for a vote. Delegates defeated the Group Realignment Proposal amendments by a vote of 231 in favor, 165 opposed just a bit more than 30 votes shy of passage. I expect a slightly modified version to be offered for a vote in the not-too-distant future. Watch for AKC s enhanced website to be launched within the next few months. Also, be waiting for a Club of Excellence designation being developed by the Parent Club Committee. The quality of a parent club s programs for judges education, rescue services, breed-specific health concerns, junior member activities, publications, etc., will be considered to attain merit recognition. The NCA should be a shoe-in for such an award. Just think about the quality of our members! The NCA can boast of eleven members serving as AKC Delegates, representing all-breed, obedience, or parent clubs. My current delegate colleagues are John Adams, Fred Bock, Pedro Cofino, David Helming, Peggy Helming, Jack Hyatt, Sandy Lovett, Betty McDonnell, Joyce Rowland, and Rebecca Stanevich. Please accept my sincere thanks for allowing me to be NCA s Delegate to the American Kennel Club for the past twenty-eight years. I am truly grateful for the honor and privilege and have enjoyed serving. Mary W. Price
