Scent Work Information We have had an intro about Scent Work at one of our fun days (thank you Darla!) and plan on training our dogs more at upcoming fun days. For those of you who are really interested in learning more, the following seminar should be a great experience. BUNN March 31, April 1 and April 2, 2018 Phoenix Children s Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona Do you love spending time with your dog? Are you looking for activities you can do together? Have you heard about the fast growing sport of Scent Work? Would you like to learn more? Have you already started doing Scent Work and want to increase your and your dog s skills? Whether you want to compete in AKC, NACSW or other scent work venues, this is how it all starts! Christina J. Bunn, CNWI, has trained police detection dogs for nearly 20 years. She is a National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW) trial judge and Nosework Camp Instructor. Christina is a K9 trainer for Search and Rescue, involved in Pet Partner and competitive obedience. She values most highly the dog/handler relationship! Come learn from one of the finest, most caring detection dog and scent work trainers! 1. Saturday Morning, March 31 8:30-12:00 Introduction to Scent Work 1/2 Day Christina will discuss what scent work is and how to get started. She will give you information you need training and trialing with different organizations including AKC. You will learn how to introduce your dog to searching and develop their natural hunting abilities. 2. Saturday Afternoon, March 31 1:00-4:30 Building Foundation Skills 1/2 Day This afternoon is for handlers with dogs that have started on odor. Christina will help you learn what to look for when your dog is working odor, how to support your dog and how to set appropriate hides, etc. Eight dogs and handlers will be selected as working teams for this half day.
3. Sunday, April 1 8:30-4:00 Solving Scent Puzzles Full Day This skill building workshop is for dogs and handlers that have experience working odor. Christina will focus on solving odor puzzles including converging odors, pooling odors, thresholds, environmental factors, etc, based on the skill levels of the working dogs. Ten dogs and handlers will be selected as working teams for this day. 4. Monday, April 2 8:00-4:00 Private Lessons with Christina Bunn Christina will be available for private lessons with dogs and handlers at all levels. Cost per hour is $100 paid directly to Christina. Location to be determined. SEMINAR DETAILS Location: The seminars will be conducted in meeting rooms at Phoenix Children s Hospital. The Hospital is at: 1919 E Thomas Rd., Phoenix AZ. Additional details will be provided with your registration confirmation. Parking: Covered parking will be provided. Those selected as working teams will either crate their dogs in their vehicles, or if space can be secured, inside the building. Food: Lunch and beverages will be available to purchase in the Hospital cafeteria, or you may bring your own. The food is excellent. Please do bring your own water bottles. Other: All attendees will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon arrival and check-in at the seminar. Registration and Payment: All participants are asked to pay in full as Auditors at the time of registration. Those selected for working spots will be notified prior to the seminar and asked to pay the additional cost of the working spot within 7 days of notification.
