Titles Earned And Other Accomplishments (Brags): Congratulations to Cudahy Kennel Club agility instructor and member Jen Smith for her dogs Moquah and Strip and Rondie, a dog she runs for another member, being selected to go to the National Agility Championship. Dogs selected for this event must meet a number of qualifications which include 7 double Q s and 550 MACH points during a 1 year period of time to be selected. Moquah also earned the honor of getting into the challengers round. In addition, in the last month, not one but two of Jen Smith s dogs (Strip and Moquah) earned their MACH2 s. For those of you who have never competed in agility, MACH stands for Master Agility Champion. This is the highest title a dog can earn in agility. Jen and her dogs have earned this title twice. Congratulations on these big accomplishments! Several other members did well in recent Rally and obedience trials. Congratulations to the following members and their dogs. At a recent trial, Risha Cupit Berzins dog Dauphine (CH Howlin's Praline AJP RA CGC) earned her Rally Advanced title. 3

Also Risha Cupit Berzins dog Hubig became an AKC Champion at his latest show. He is now CH Howlin's King Cake OJP CGC. 4 Gatsby, owned by member Whitney Daley, earned his Novice Obedience title earlier this month. He also took 1 st place in his class. Nancy Freitag s dog Duke qualified, earned 2 nd place and a small cash prize both days in his 1 st 2 Novice obedience runs at a recent obedience trial. Duke earned his Novice Obedience (CD) title in his latest obedience trial. Nancy is very proud that he earned this title in 3 trials. Marisa U-AG1 AKC/UKC CH Lake-Breeze SafeHarbor Marisa, RN, NAP, CGC, TDI Marisa has been very busy in conformation, agility & Rally this year earning her AKC Novice B Rally title and her UKC Agility I title. On April 2, 2016, Marisa completed her AKC Championship in style (BOS, BOW, WB) at the Manitowoc shows. Marisa was expertly handled (for all of her points) by Jeri El Dissi. Owned by Wendy & Dirk and also handled by Wendy. Potential new club members: Aaron Krumnow has two Bernese Mountain dogs, former Conformation dogs who now are doing Agility. Members sponsoring Aaron are Wendy Anderson, Barb Ryan and Pam Brown. Cudahy Kennel Club Board Meeting at the Clubhouse March 15, 2016 The Board Meeting was called to order at 6:56 pm. Board Members present: Dirk Anderson, Don Adams, Nancy Freitag, Kay Pedersen, Mary Beth Hackney, Wendy Anderson, Barb Ryan, Ricky Adams, The minutes of the February meeting were approved with the following amendment. The 4/8 obedience run thru and the 4/15 agility run thru have been cancelled due to a building rental and our obedience trial. The motion to approve the minutes as corrected was made by Wendy Anderson and Kay Pedersen seconded the motion. The motion passed. Corresponding Secretary s Report: The Corresponding Secretary sent out an email with information about recent correspondence received from AKC. Treasurer s Report: Our balance is $10,958.88 5 WIS/IL CAT show last minute cancellation discussion the security deposit was $250. Full rent was $750. Don will send a bill to that group asking them to pay the entire $750 per the contract. Wendy made a motion for us to ask WIS/IL to pay the entire $750 (They will owe an additional $500 because we have their $250 security deposit.) Kay Pedersen seconded the motion. The motion passed. Committee Reports: Agility: We have judges for all 3 dates this year and June and Sept 2017 Building: Don Adams created a cleaning proposal including when we will hire out the cleaning and when the cleaning will be done by volunteers. Conformation: No report given. CAT Events: Mary Beth Hackney reported that the judges have been hired for our May CAT tests. She will work on the premium soon. We need 2 more judges for our June tests. The application is in. Don Adams informed us that Fast CAT has been approved. Some changes have been made. The points system will reward a title for 150 points. Programming changes by AKC are expected to be completed by April. If the changes aren't complete, we will offer this event in conjunction with our May CAT tests and our scores will be inserted into the system after the programming is completed. Don will be in charge of it. Marketing: Nancy Freitag reported that the Marketing Committee has been busy promoting our upcoming CGC tests, TDI tests, class signups and obedience trials both on Facebook and by posting flyers at local businesses. Kay Pedersen suggested that we consider advertising in Clipper Magazine. We could include a coupon for $10 off in our ad. She will obtain more information about this. Tom Garvey also mentioned about a loyalty card that Animal Wellness Center in Oak Creek offers. Businesses offer discounts on their services with this card. Julie Westphal is the person to contact about this. Membership: No report given Obedience/Rally: Karen Paul we have a few entries so far for our April trial. The premium is out. We are using Caper and Trial in a Box instead of a club member Trial Secretary. Kay Pedersen will handle the paperwork and Wendy Anderson will assist her. Nancy Freitag offered to help them if needed. Karen will follow up with Caper about them emailing our premium to their list. Wendy emailed the premium to our members and 5

students and others who compete in obedience. We discussed offering the trial secretary some type of compensation for doing this job. We agreed that we need 2 people trained as Trial Secretaries for both our agility and obedience trials. Don motioned that we ratify our contract with Caper for Trial in a Box. Ricky Adams seconded it. Motion passed with one abstention. 6 Our December trial is not on AKC s calendar for 12/31/2016 and 1/1/2017. Don Adams will check into us moving our December obedience trial to another month. Karen Paul offered to be the assistant chair for this trial but will not be able to chair it. It was recommended that Chris Gremo be asked to be the December Trial Chair. Training: Don Adams, Dirk and Wendy Anderson had a meeting to discuss the training classes we offer. They discussed 0ffering a Beginner Novice class. Don wants to make sure all the classes have class descriptions and that all the class descriptions make sense. The Beginning Obedience class at 8pm on Thursday night has been renamed Basic Obedience. It s the same class as Lisa Bulowicz teaches. Respectfully submitted, Nancy Freitag for Fran Aring, Recording Secretary faring@ameritech.net Membership Meeting at the Clubhouse March 15, 2016 The meeting was called to order at 8:06pm. Members present: Dirk Anderson, Don Adams, Nancy Freitag, Kay Petersen, Mary Beth Hackney, Wendy Anderson, Barb Ryan, Ricky Adams, Karen Paul, Peggy Vanco, Tom Garvey Committees: Dirk Anderson, our new President will contact the current committee chairs regarding reappointment to their positions. It is up to the committee chairs to recruit members for their committees. Old Business: Mary Beth Hackney reported that we will offer CGC tests on 3/21 at 6pm and 4/2 at 10am. We will also offer TDI test on 4/2 at noon. New Business: Class signups we discussed being able to sign up online Dirk Anderson expressed thanks to Cristina Cook for her service to our club. She will be moving to California soon. We discussed putting up a new sign on our building but no action was taken New Member: Peggy Vanco was voted in as a new member. Welcome to our club! Delegates s Report: Fast CAT need a timer, more fencing, enough room on the grounds. We need 200 6

yards. It will be run at the same time as the CAT test. The point system is changing. Certain breeds had to run too many tests to be able to earn titles under the first set of AKC rules. Need 5 people. Timers for Fast CAT Mary Beth discussed this. Meredith contacted these people: Farmtek, these are the ones we rent from Cream City. Don t have to move the eyes as the dogs' sizes change. Work for Fast CAT. Need 2 pair of them--one at the start and one at the finish. The timer must be in the middle of the run distance. Has one type that isn t good for agility. Farmtek like we use from Cream City is $1900. Thunderpaws (the guy from Missouri) Meredith has had trouble with communication with this person. Has the single eyes that you need to move up and down. Will do the longer distance. We might have to move the heights up and down. You would have to have a separate jump to put the eye on for Agility with the Thunderpaws timers. Doesn t sound like their equipment is easy to work with. You ll get the speed from the timer. The display is for anyone to read. Farmtek the display is all on 1 line 2:22:22 and the display for the Thunderpaws is on more than 1 line. Meredith recommended the Farmtek timer. Thunderpaws $780 has a smaller display. What about renting the Farmtek timer. Meredith will write up an email to the board regarding her recommendations. The estimate is that we ll make $4000/year from Fast CAT. There being no other business, the membership meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm. Respectfully submitted, Nancy Freitag for Fran Aring, Recording Secretary faring@ameritech.net 7 Additional Information: News from AKC ACT Program (Agility Course Test) for beginning Agility Dogs & Handlers The AKC Agility Department is excited to announce the launch of a new, beginning level agility program called ACT (Agility Course Test). The ACT program officially launches on March 1, 2016. This program is designed to introduce beginning dogs and handlers to the sport of agility. There are two classes ACT 1 and ACT2. Clubs and trainers can adopt the ACT classes as the graduation exercise for their training classes to be held at their facility thus providing their students a familiar and comfortable setting. The ring size requirements are small enough that ACT classes can be held in many training facilities across the country. In addition to preparing for these introductory classes, exhibitors will learn to do things such as to enter an AKC event, check-in at the ring, prepare for their run, and handle their dog while under judgment. We hope that clubs and trainers will use these classes as learning experiences. 7

8 There are several elements of the ACT program that are different from AKC Agility Trials. Eligibility to enter: This program is for dogs that do not have an AKC Agility title at the Novice level or higher. Dogs may enter ACT2 without having an ACT1 title. Dogs that are not registered/listed with the AKC may participate and their performance will be recorded under a temporary recording number. Owners will receive a letter from the AKC explaining how they can register their dogs. Application to be listed as a Canine Partner may be accepted at the test and submitted with the results. Judges/Evaluators: All AKC agility judges may judge the ACT classes. In addition we will be setting up a system for trainers and experienced participants to become ACT evaluators. Evaluators may judge ACT classes. There will be an application, online test and nominal fee to become an evaluator. More information about becoming an ACT evaluator will be available within the next couple of weeks. Holding ACT events: Any AKC agility judge/act evaluator may hold a stand-alone ACT event. The event does not have to be held by an AKC licensed club. AKC agility clubs may hold ACT events in conjunction with their trials if they desire. Jump Heights: No jump height card is required to enter an ACT class. Handlers are encouraged to have their dogs jump at the appropriate height that will help them prepare for AKC Agility trials. Event Applications: Clubs or judges/evaluators do not need to file an application for ACT events; there will be no application fee. A $5.00 per entry recording fee for all dogs entered will be submitted with the results. Courses: Evaluators and judges will need to submit their courses for review; however, courses may be reused, which we encourage for ease of administration. Titles: Dogs must receive two passing scores to earn each of the ACT titles. Dogs are required to be fully registered/listed in order to be awarded a title. There will be an ACT page on the AKC website where forms and information can be accessed. We have also set up a mailbox for the ACT program act@akc.org. ACT related questions can be sent to this mailbox. Please see the regulations and other information as it becomes available on the ACT web page that can be accessed through the Agility Home Page. We are looking forward to working with clubs, trainers and evaluators to introduce new exhibitors to the sport of agility. The AKC Agility Department 8
