THANK YOU!!!! OOPS, WE GOOFED!! Many thanks to Ken and Debbie Davis for again opening up their home to host the annual ISCM Holiday Party, Dec. 10. What more could one ask for then sitting around a table with fellow members who all share a passion for the Irish Setter? The food was delicious, the wine was superb and the conversation could not have been better. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and another party has come and gone. Time now to move on and welcome the New Year, 2012!! RESCUE REPORT Our sincere apology goes to Cindy Kullik and Maureen Beagle for inadvertently publishing the wrong name of their AOM at our fall Specialty. The winner was bitch, CH Milesian Special Occasion, not CH Milesian Special Delivery. Ann Graham reported that a one year old female Irish Setter is in need of a home. Her name is Maggie and she needs a home where she will get really good care. She has a lot of energy so she needs an owner who will provide her with some good training (she already knows some obedience) and she is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. VOTING FOR 2012 SPECIALTY JUDGES We are doing a survey monkey to vote for judges. please go to the web site below and vote for 10 judges. You will also be able to list 5 sweepstakes judges you would like to judge our specialty. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9ctssgl PLEASE VOTE ASAP! AWARDS BANQUET 2012 The Awards Banquet will now be held at our March meeting. The list of awards and applications will be published in the December News & Views. The information is also published on our web site: irishsetterclubofmichigan.com. Deadline to apply for awards will be Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14, 2012. This gives you several weeks to get together your wins for 2011. Please let us know if you are no longer are able to sponsor an award or if you wish to sponsor an award that is not currently being sponsored. Thanks, Barbara Popyk & Toni Whipple, Awards Chairpersons December News and Views 2

Cards and Flowers Toni Whipple Toni reported that she sent get well cards to Herb Sawin as he had surgery and Kathryn Wheatly as she fell and broke her hip. She also sent a sympathy card to Sharon Rice's sister. Education Report - Barb Popyk Barb reported that the Puff n Stuff Pet Fest was geared more toward adoption of pets than a true RDO event and she plans to continue the tradition of the RDO event at our specialty in 2012 as this event better meets our clubs education requirement. Karol Southerland and two other people agility people who are not our club members came to help. Debbie Davis shared that the ISCM will participate again next year in the Sporting Dog Club of Michigan's judges seminar for one day. This is a good event and the attending judges have given it a good rating. Debbie also shared that AKC has new rules for education requirements. The Progressive Dog Club of Wayne County is planning a seminar with nationally recognized canine educator, AKC Judge and leading breeder of Topsfield Basset Hounds, Claudia Orlandi on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Claudia Orlandi will be speaking on The ABC s of Dog Breeding AND Practical Canine Movement and Anatomy. News and Views Report Barb Riegle/Jackie Shelest Jackie noted that there will be a correction in next months' edition of the newsletter. We had inadvertently published the wrong name of Cindy Kullik and Maureen Beagle's AOM bitch at our fall Specialty. The winner was bitch, CH Milesian Special Occasion, not CH Milesian Special Delivery. Rescue Committee Report Ann Graham Ann Graham reported that a one year old female Irish Setter is in need of a home. Her name is Maggie and she needs a home where she will get really good care. She has a lot of energy so she needs an owner who will provide her with some good training (she already knows some obedience) and she is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. Field Report Janet Parker Janet reminded reported that the fall Hunt Test was held on October 8th. It was a very small entry, but we managed to break even as we did not have horses. Our judges walked all the braces except for one person as one of our judges brought his own horse which he gave up for most of the day. Janet made a plea for other club members to attend and help out at these events. We are required by AKC to have event committees at each hunt test or field trial. Janet asked the members present if the ISCM wanted to continue to participate and host sporting events, there was a consensus that we would continue to host both the hunt test and field trial. Show Chair Report Martina Friedberg Martina Friedeberg said that we are currently trying to establish the judges panel for our specialty in 2012. Debbie Davis shared a new method of conducting a survey electronically to get the results more quickly so that we have time to contact and book judges. The survey is conducted via Survey Monkey and the results are automatically tabulated and sent to the creator of the survey. Debbie set up the survey and will bring the results to the January meeting. The January meeting will be January 8 and we will have the Bird Day event at the Grahams again this year. IX. OLD BUSINESS Dan and Ann Graham requested clarification on where the raffle proceeds were to go as they did not have a great need at this time. After discussion the membership decided that the raffle proceeds for 2011 Specialty would go to Rescue and that beginning 2012 the membership would discuss and vote on how they want to proceed for all future raffles. $910.00 was collected at the 2011 Specialty and these funds were sent to Rescue. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER AS DICTATED BY OUR PETS. 1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful. 2. Give me time to understand what you want of me. 3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being. 4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments. But I have only you. 5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me. 6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it. 7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, and yet I choose not to bite you. 8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long or my heart might be getting old or weak. 9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too will grow old. 10. On the difficult journey, on the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Because I love you so. Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful thing without God's critters. Please pass this on to other pet owners. December News and Views 10
