This will be discussed under New Business.
Treasurer: Kathy R. provided a summary of the 2016 financial figures to the membership. We lost some money last year because we lost money on our Summer Agility Trial. Membership: Anita reported that we don t have any pending membership applications at the moment. All together, we have close to 70 members. Agility Trial: Patsi Nelson reported: SSCNC Agility Trial took place June 30 July 2 at Manzanita Park in Prunedale o The Trial was held jointly with the Bay Team s USDAA Trial. o We had a bigger entry than last year (which took place at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose), so we had to round up a 2 nd judge. o We ran late because so many people were entered. o It was great all around. Great site, great weather (much cooler than Evergreen). The only drawback the park itself is dry camping only (however, there is a very nice campground close by). o We shared expenses with the Bay Team. o Thanks to the larger entry and shared expenses, our total profit for the Trial was over $3,000 (we lost money at Evergreen College last year). o Overall, it was a successful experiment. We will have the same arrangement for our Trial next year, except we will have 2 rings and 2 judges. Hot August Nights o SSCNC sponsors one day (August 22 nd ) of Hot August Nights at Heath Bar Ranch in Shingle Springs. March 2018 o Our March 2018 Trial is cancelled because it conflicts with the AKC Nationals taking place in Reno. Our March Trial will return to the schedule in March 2019. Ways and Means: Diane thanked everyone for contributing to the Raffle. She s not sure how much we made yet. We will probably have a door prize at the October Specialty meeting. Trophies: Debbie Marks passed around the sponsor list for October trophies. Debbie and Amber are resigning as trophy chairs. At the meeting, Cindy Frusetta volunteered to take over as trophy chair. Thanks Cindy! Special Awards: Lynn Azzopardi said that we have 4 performance plaques which have been missing for many years: o o SHANGRI-LA BLACK MAGIC, UD MEMORIAL donated by Barbara Miess Awarded to the veteran, 7 years or older, winning the single highest obedience score in any regular class. CH. SEA CRAG S GOLDEN BONNIE, UDT donated by Amy Brastad Awarded to the Champion with the highest combined total completing a degree.
o o AMSTAD CHALLENGE TROPHY donated by Amy Brastad Awarded to the rescue Sheltie earning the most qualifying Rally scores during the current year. SEA BREEZE donated by Bobbie Caltabiano Awarded to the dog/bitch with the highest combined score toward a UD degree, owner handled. Members have been applying for these awards, but they are nowhere to be found. Should we take these trophies off the list or get someone else to sponsor them? This is a Board decision. Nancy Rynewicz volunteered to take over sponsorship of the Amstad Challenge Trophy (which her Hannah won several times). Anita brought a new box for the Close But No Cigar trophy. She is sponsoring the trophy with Scott Zamvil. Anita encouraged members to sponsor trophies for agility, rally, barn hunt, etc. Halina said that she could take over sponsorship of one of the old agility trophies. Education: We need to do something. Tabled for discussion at the Board meeting. Website: We need to update the photos on the website. If you have photos you would like to post on the site, please send them to Alicia Keegan. Bulletin: Thank you everyone for your submissions. In particular, it was nice to see all the announcements in the August issue. October 2017 Specialty: The October Specialty takes place Saturday, October 21 st. Karen D Augusta reported that Mary Metz has volunteered to handle hospitality at the Specialty. Karen also reported that she has found a steward for the conformation ring, Kim Tidwell. Kim works with Karen. She is looking at a restaurant in Pleasanton for the Judge s Dinner. Debbie Marks passed around Thank You cards for the October Specialty Judges and asked the members to sign. Marianne Dub is the Obedience Chair. If you have a business card or an ad that you would like to place in the catalog, send them to Halina (electronically or PDF would be great). The deadline is approximately October 2 nd. Christmas Party 2017: It looks like the 2017 Christmas party (scheduled for Saturday December 2 nd at Cattlemen s in Livermore) will conflict with the shows in Stockton for Golden Valley KC/San Joaquin KC, which have been moved to the same weekend. We will have the bigger room at Cattlemen s, but we need to guarantee 40 people. The meal will include dessert that way, no one will need to bring a cake. We can t move the Party to another weekend because it is too late to book a new venue. Next year, we will consider moving the Christmas Party to the following weekend (depending on what happens with the Antioch shows) or, potentially, to January.
Specialty B-Match & Obedience/Rally Workshop: Match Chairperson Anita thanked all the worker bees who made the Match happen. Thank you to our judges, Lisa Tatsuno and Janet Hitt, for doing such a wonderful job with the puppies. Thank you to Diane Boross for the wonderful raffle. We had a small entry for the Match, but it was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time. The entry was small enough that everyone could practice in the ring beforehand. Great lunch, too! Anita suggested having a small match at our next Puppy Picnic. Workshop Chair, Patsi Nelson, thanked our Judge Harriet Tucker. She was wonderful, and had great tips. Patsi also thanked everyone who helped out at the Workshop. This was probably the most entries we have ever had for an Obedience/Rally Workshop. Selection of Regular / Sweeps Conformation Judges for February 2019 and October 2019 Specialties: The slate of regular and sweeps conformation judges nominated for the February 2019 and October 2019 Specialties was presented to the membership by Mark Hersman. The membership voted as follows: Regular Classes: #1 Linda Tefelski #2 Carl Williford #3 Betty Jo Patrick Alternate #4 Linda Robey - Alternate Sweeps: #1 Terry Hansen #2 Laura Ahern Weiss #3 Alicia Keegan Alternate #4 Michelle Miller Alternate Old Business: Lifetime Membership Pins: Barbara Norton needs the logo artwork for the pins. Sergeant at Arms: Scott Zamvil is the Sergeant of Arms New Business: ASSA Foundation: o Our usual donation is $250, divided as follows: $150 to research and $100 for rescue. o Halina made the motion that we make our usual donation. The motion was seconded and approved by the membership. o We will get a bronze sheltie pin for our donation, which we will donate to the Rescue Raffle at the Specialty.
ASSA National Trophies: o Our usual donation is $110 for Conformation and $110 for Performance. o The membership briefly discussed dedicating our donation. Usually, our donation goes into the general trophy fund. o Halina made a motion that we make our usual donations to the ASSA National Trophies. The donations will go into the general trophy fund. The motion was seconded and approved by the membership. Good of the Order: No report. Next Meetings: Saturday, September 16th at the Lake-Drake Cluster, Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo. We will likely have a Board meeting before the regular meeting. Johanna encouraged members to bring goodies to the meeting. October 21 st at the SSCNC Specialty at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Alameda. Adjourned: 4:05 pm Submitted by: Rebecca Logsdon, SSCNC Secretary Shetland Sheepdog Club of Northern California
